durrrr Challenge: Dwan says it's too early to tell
Tom "durrrr" Dwan says scheduling conflicts and the allure of even higher-stakes online cash games have slowed the progress of his first durrrr Challenge match with Patrik Antonius.
"We haven't played that much so far," Dwan told PokerListings.com last night. "There have been a lot of bigger-stakes games which we both were interested in, so those take a little bit of precedence.
"Plus our schedules have been a little different."
The much-anticipated challenge began in the early morning hours of Feb. 18, when Antonius and Dwan sat down to four-table $200/$400 Pot-Limit Omaha on Full Tilt.
Since that time they have played just four more sessions for a total of 4,178 hands.
The challenge consists of Dwan putting up $1.5 million to any challenger's $500,000, four-tabling heads-up with minimum $200/$400 stakes over 50,000 hands.
Should any challenger be up when the 50,000 hands are through, durrrr will be out the $1.5 million. Of course, should Dwan end up ahead, he gets the challenger's $500,000.
Any and all winnings accumulated during the challenge will be kept as well.
Antonius was the first to take Dwan on, but Phil Ivey will reportedly be next. Dwan and Antonius have played 13 hours so far, and durrrr is up $140,380 total.
"So far I'm winning," Dwan said, following his loss to Phil Hellmuth at the NBC National Heads-Up Championships in Las Vegas.
"Hopefully we'll get some more hands in at some point and hopefully I'll keep running good and end up even larger."
The only problems, according to Dwan, are that Antonius is in a different time zone right now and the juicy high-stakes games on Full Tilt keep getting in the way.
"We start playing four tables of $200/$400 and then five random names show up at $500/$1,000 at four tables, so we're obviously going to go to those," he said.
Dwan and Antonius have squared off in the highest-stakes games online for some time now, but Dwan said it's still too early to assess how the match is progressing.
"We just haven't played enough hands to tell," he said. "And there hasn't been anything that interesting yet."
Their last session lasted just 34 minutes, and Dwan could not confirm when they would get at it again.
