Daily 3-Bet: PCA = PCB, Montreal + LA Clinch GPL, Claudico TV
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is an old-school pickup truck that will happily navigate mud, rivers and more to bring you a fresh load of mid-afternoon poker news.
You can always make your own suggestion for future 3-Bet pieces in the comments section below.
In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at PokerStars turning the PCA into the PCB, Montreal and LA locking up GPL playoff spots and a certain poker A.I. getting some love on PNIA.
1) PokerStars Switches PCA to PCB
One of the most famous tournaments in poker history — the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure — is no more.
PokerStars is still planning on running a massive series in the Bahamas in January but this year it will be rebranded as the PokerStars Championship Bahamas or PCB.
It’s nice that they kept the three-letter acronym for the sake of continuity.
This time around ‘Stars is planning on offering 90+ tournaments at Atlantis Resort & Casino from January 6-14, 2017.
This is all in keeping with PokerStars dropping EPT and regional tours for PokerStars Championship and the recreational-player friendly PokerStars Festival.
We’re curious if PokerStars will expand this style of acronyms to the rest of the tour. So far we’ve got Panama and Macau on the schedule so PCP and PCM? Hmm, maybe not PCP.
2) Nationals, Sunset Clinch GPL Playoff Spots
The LA Sunset and Montreal Nationals have pretty much been the class of the inaugural Global Poker League season so it makes sense they were the first two teams to lock up playoff spots last night.
It appears the LV Moneymakers' playoffs hopes are dead thanks to a paltry 116 points but the Sao Paulo Mets, San Francisco Rush and New York Rounders are still jockeying for position in the Americas conference. There are two more playoff spots left.
Meanwhile it’s a completely different story in the Eurasia conference where less than 10 points separate first and fourth place in the standings. The Moscow Wolverines currently lead with the London Royals in second place but anything could happen.
The Berlin Bears will attempt to make up some ground later today as the legendary Dan “jungleman12” Cates takes to the virtual felt. You can watch how it all shakes out below:
3) PNIA Takes In-Depth Look at Poker A.I. Claudico
It was a big deal last year when a team made up of Doug Polk, Dong Kim, Bjorn Li and Jason Les successfully defeated Carnegie Mellon poker A.I. Claudico.
The only thing is that there wasn’t a lot of information about the experiment other than a few Tweets from the players.
Fortunately Poker Night in America was actually on hand for the marathon and it looks like they are going to be giving us the inside scoop on Claudico in an ongoing series on the program.
You can check out some interviews with the team that developed Claudico at around 17:00 in the following video. Good stuff.
