Daily 3-Bet: Mercier Slumpbuster, Dima Icebreaker, Rome Burns
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a couple of dribbles, a one-foot heave and nothing but net from 94 feet on the afternoon poker news parquet.
Have something you'd like to see in a future 3-Bet? Tell us about it in the comments.
Today in the 3-Bet we find Jason Mercier breaking out of his WSOP slump, Dzmitry Urbanovich getting untracked and another intriguing GPL Cube off.
It's now been three days since Jason Mercier has won a WSOP bracelet.
He failed to cash in the $3k PLO event this weekend which for him constitutes a legit downswing after his jaw-dropping success last week.
Making things right again he's now 8 of 16 in the $10k Omaha 8 or Better event and it's a pretty safe bet he's got Vanessa Selbst and her bet buyers very nervous about that $1.8m proposition.
Oh, and he also did this as part of PokerStars' new #RaiseIt challenge:
Everything's coming up Milhouse again, so it seems. And we wouldn't at all be surprised to be reporting on bracelet #3 later today. Follow along with the live updates on WSOP.com today starting at 2 pm.
Check out Neymar Jr. and Ronaldo's #RaiseIt entries and submit one yourself here.
Lost in all the furor over Mercier's bracelet rampage and polarizing prop-bet ethics is, in fact, where it all began.
Selbst's tipsy 200-1 $2m bet with Dzmitry Urbanovich at the PCA was the catalyst for all of the related Mercier madness but has fallen by the wayside as Urbanovich is off to a less-than-Mercier-esque start to his WSOP.
Over the first three weeks Urbanovich had yet to sniff a scent of even one bracelet, let alone a cash - at least until yesterday:
Yesterday I made my first cash at #WSOP bracelet event (3k Plo). 1500 triple draw today— Dzmitry Urbanovich (@Urbanovich_Dima) June 21, 2016
Still a long, long way to go for Dima before Selbst starts sweating this one but we've seen this kid win 4 tournaments in a week before, so never say never.
3) Now or Never for Rome Emperors?
The resoundingly fun Global Poker League Summer Series continues today from the signature Cube in Las Vegas with a critical matchup for the struggling Rome Emperors.
With just 72 points so far the Emperors are entrenched at the bottom of the EurAsian conference standings, currently eight points back of the 5th-place Berlin Bears.
PokerListings Spirit of Poker nominee Walter Treccarichi steps into the Cube for Rome today and it'll take nothing less than a sweep to move Rome up into fifth.
With the fourth-place Paris Aviators getting further and further away it might be now or never for Rome to even think about the playoffs. Check the action vs. the always-entertaining Chance Kornuth of the LA Sunset below (and catch up with the replay of Rast vs MacPhee yesterday):
