Daily 3-Bet: Ivey Live, WSOPME4LYF, Robl vs. JC
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a plucky, iron-willed street urchin taken in by a rogue sensei and now punching way above his afternoon poker news weight class.
Any suggestions for a future 3-Bet, feel free to drop a note in the comments.
Today in the 3-Bet we find Phil Ivey on the brink of WSOP bracelet #9, WSOP Main Event duo Greg Merson and Jesse Sylvia reflecting on their shared experience of a lifetime and Andrew Robl and JC Alvarado agreeing to an MMA fight for a "huge bet."
1) Ivey Goes for Nine, Negreanu for Five
We knew the inaugural WSOP APAC wouldn't suffer for great storylines or feel-good drama. We didn't know it would be this good though.
Just five days in to the first-ever APAC we've already seen two near-misses for Aussie players on home soil, two very worthy bracelet winners and any number of dream-fulfilling moments for locals taking a stab at WSOP glory.
Now we've got two veritable poker icons at the same final table stacked with chips. Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu are seated side-by-side at tonight's (9:30 pm ET) Event #3 final table with much more than just $51k on the line.
Ivey's going for his ninth career bracelet after five (FIVE!) final-table near-misses in Vegas last summer. Negreanu is angling for bracelet #5 and his first since 2008. They're also battling to be the first poker legend to grab a bracelet outside of the US or Europe.
It's almost too good to be true, really. But it is true, it should be spectacular, and you can watch it all streaming live on PokerListings.com right here!
2) Merson, Sylvia Reflect on 2012 Main Event
We've said before we think the WSOP hit the jackpot in 2010 for "poker ambassadors" when Jonathan Duhamel won the Main Event, and they did again in 2012 with the 1-2 punch of Greg Merson and Jesse Sylvia.
Genuine, amiable, talented and well spoken, the two have hit the circuit (or cash games) hard since their life-changing moment(s) and represented themselves, and poker, well at every turn.
We caught up with both of them at WSOP APAC this week and were impressed again with their perspectives on fortune, talent and their shared, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Check the clips below:
3) Robl and Alavarado Agree to MMA Fight
We don't know too much about it yet but thanks to Twitter we now know high-stakes poker pros Andrew Robl and JC Alvarado have agreed to an MMA fight for a "huge bet."
For those looking for some gossip, we're happy to say there's no animosity/cheating backstory/douchebaggery involved. Just a good old-fashioned get-in-shape prop bet.

It will happen sometime late this year or early next year and I am nowhere near a favorite. I'm +170 to start + some same day weigh in rules— JC Alvarado(@JCAlvarado1) April 7, 2013
