In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at some big plans for Indian poker in 2017, a massive Borgata tournament and PokerStars’ new Spinball.
1) Indian Poker Scene Poised for Boom
Could 2017 be the year that poker finally takes hold for real in India?
That’s what the Mumbai Mirror is speculating in a story this week titled “Here Come the High Rollers”.
Qualifiers for the Poker Sports League (PSL) begin next month and the response has been dramatic with corporate sponsors essentially going all-in on the concept.
PokerStars is also set to introduce its world-famous client in the country in early 2017.
One of the biggest casino operators in the country also recently acquired Indian poker site Adda52 for a significant sum.
It seems like the perfect storm.
With over a billion people it goes without saying that India could quickly become one of the most important online poker markets in the world.
2) Borgata Winter Open Cracks 1,312 Entries
The WPT Borgata Winter Open continues to be the little (OK not little) tournament that could and keeps churning out eye-popping numbers.
This year’s edition hit 1,312 entries, which is just one single entry shy of the all-time record for the venue that was set in 2011 when Bobby Oboodi won the Winter Open for $922,441.
That’s a big, big tournament and first place will likely walk away with close to $1,000,000 after all is done and said (prize pool has yet to be released).
East Coast regs Shaun Deeb, Olivier Busquet and Darren Elias are amongst the early chip leaders.
3) PokerStars Teases Spinball
What do you get when you combine poker and pinball? Something called Spinball.
That’s according to PokerStars, which released this enigmatic video of the aforementioned Spinball earlier today.
So what is it? It’s very hard to tell from the teaser but if we had to guess we’d say some sort of jackpot-based promo.
That said, we’d be first in line for an actual PokerStars pinball machine. It’s gotta include some sort of Chris Moneymaker poker boom multi-ball mode though.
Who knows, maybe it would even make it into the Pinball Hall of Fame someday.
