Can Cantu do two? Back to Bay 101

Matt Savage and Brandon Cantu
Brandon Cantu is ready to take on Tournament Director Matt Savage's unique WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star once again.

After going wire-to-wire on his way to the 2008 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star title, Brandon Cantu is looking forward to defending his crown in San Jose this week.

"I've probably been looking forward to this tournament more than any other this year," Cantu told PokerListings. "It's definitely the most fun tournament all year long."

Set for March 16-20 at the famed Bay 101 cardroom in San Jose, Calif., the Shooting Star is one of the Jennifer Harman, Steve Sung and John Phan with a massive chip lead and never relinquished it.

"I played really good most of the way, but I did get some hands," he said. "I don't think I've ever [run] that good in my life."

Fan interest is always high in northern California, with Bay 101 attracting thousands of autograph seekers, and most players seem to enjoy the increased attention.

"That makes it a lot more fun," said Cantu, who will start his title defense on Day 1b, Tuesday, with the bounty on his head this time around.

"With the target on my back it's got to be a little different," Cantu added. "I know I went after the bounties a little harder than the other players to try and knock one out last year, so we will see."

PokerListings will have live coverage of all the action from Bay 101 in our Live Tournaments section starting Monday.
