Mystery Bounty Micro Rollers Main Event ChampionChips
Where usually the online players are used to having the Main Event at the end of the series schedule, 888poker chose to have a multi-day Mystery Bounty event instead, with the final day being the end of the Micro Rollers ChampionChips.
The $100,000 MR ChampionChips includes multiple Day 1s, starting at the very beginning of the series with two opening flights. From there onwards, there will be three flights available per day until the very last day before the final, where a total of five flights will be available.
We already know that the top mystery bounties will at least be $10,000, $4,000, and $2,000. These bounties are guaranteed, so if the prize pool rises above the guaranteed, these bounties will also rise. Whopping bounties!

Popular Scams Against Poker Players in 2024
Why are poker players so attractive to scammers? Well, the answer is simple: There is a lot of money involved in the poker/gambling industry. Scammers exist in all shapes and sizes, with phishing being perhaps the most recognized around the world. It also happens that you receive e-mails such as pseudo-newsletters, or a payment platform that asks you to verify your identity without a single reason.
Our dearest writer Vasilisa Zyryanova has prepared a guide for our readers on how to recognize scams, intending to minimize the risks for everyone out there, as still, some things in can never be vanished/avoided completely. Sadly!
The Irish Open Main Event of 2024 has been a massive success with 3,233 entries. It was eventually Finland’s pride Tero Laurila who walked away with the most honorable trophy . After being part of a 3-way deal, he did however not go home with the biggest prize!
JP McCann, co-organizer of the event, mentioned that the dream goal would be to have 5,000 entries at some point. Without a doubt, in 2024 they have made a huge step towards that ambitious number!
Rake Free? In today’s poker world, it’s equal to seeing an oasis in the desert. WPT Global, now led by president Alex Scott, promised the entire industry that they would become an operator to take into consideration at all times, and this is exactly what is happening at the moment!
Already having managed to enter the Top 3 in player traffic, it’s just a matter of time before this operator reaches ever higher. When looking back at the last couple of months, online players already had a ‘rake-free’ month in March, as WPT Global organized massive freerolls, and in April they will continue with this pace!

Stay tuned for more information about this event, as we are weekly covering everything that goes down at Banco Casino.
The Festival Series will kick off on May 31st at @PokerroomKings in Rozvadov. With @partypoker as your guide for great value online qualifiers, there are plenty of packages to scoop!

Dylan Linde Spent Entire Bankroll to Help His Mother
To become a successful poker player is one, but to then help out your closest family is something that only real poker players can do. Not only did Dylan, better known as ‘ImaLucSac’, win a WPT-title and numerous events online, but he is one of the greater names in today’s high-stakes poker action.
If you are interested in Mixed Games, we would recommend reading his book called ‘Mastering Mixed Games’. Otherwise, Dylan is also a poker instructor at RunItOnce, so if you want to become more advanced in games with more than two hole cards, here is your calling!

The tournament series will officially kick off upcoming Monday, and players can enjoy various poker formats such as No-Limit Hold’em and Omaha. The tournament structure of the Main Event is like any other grand event at Banco Casino, high class and beneficial for the real tournament players. Where the peak is as always to expected just before the final weekend, during the final opening flights, it might just be the case that this 38th edition will rise even above the expectations dearest Jan Packa’s hat.
Last Year’s Winner & Upcoming Highlights
It’s the baby of Banco Casino, their own Masters Series which is being held several times a year. The previous edition, got a Main Event winner in the name of Mladen Stojanovic, who emerged victorious, setting his name in the Banco Masters history. Stojanovic’s journey to triumph was nothing short of full epic-ness, as he turned a modest €170 investment into a staggering €41,450 payday.

In a bold move set to redefine the landscape of online poker, WPT Global has announced an incredible promotion for the month of April: rake-free tournaments. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant departure from conventional online poker practices, placing WPT Global firmly at the forefront of putting poker players at the highest rank.
The essence of poker tournaments lies not only in the thrill of competition but also in the pursuit of value, as a result of game selection. Recognizing such fundamental principles in online poker might seem an easy catch, but WPT Global has abolished rake fees for all tournaments conducted throughout April, giving a chance of incredible value for players worldwide.
More Rake Is Better?
For those unfamiliar with the term ‘rake’; It is a sort of tax which gets deducted from every single entry in a tournament, or any chip being flicked into the middle of a cash game. With the generated rake, online operators such as WPT Global facilitate its operations and generate revenue. Just imagine your own country giving all people a tax-free month, would you then still be travelling abroad?
Rake is one of the key elements of poker, as it makes the world go round for the entire poker industry. Courses such as Raise Your Edge, Upswing Poker, or PokerCode, all have in their key facts written that game selection is extremely important. Not only for regulars in the online circuit, but same counts for recreational players. When Alex Scott got named as new President of WPT Global, he promised that WPT Global would set sail towards the higher ranks, and this surely will help them in the right direction.
Changing the Eco-System of Online Poker
The implications of this move are nothing short of revolutionary, not many big operators have come up with such great value spot for online poker players. Every single dollar that is being paid to enter a tournament, will straight end up in the prize pool. Not with every tournament however, because WPT Global has given transparency as per usual, and explained that some tournaments are not included in the rake free promotion.
It’s important to note that while the vast majority of tournaments will be rake-free during April, WPT Global has provided clarity regarding exceptions. Certain tournaments, such as qualifiers for live events, online Day 1s, and selected tournaments organized by WPT Global affiliates, may still incur rake fees. However, such instances will be clearly indicated in the tournament lobbies, ensuring once again, full transparency for players.
🌟 WPT Global's President @AlexScott72o shines a light on the usage of 3rd-party software on @WPT_Global!
WPT Global’s promotion isn’t just about money; it’s about being fair and welcoming to everyone who loves playing poker online. They’re changing the game by getting rid of the fee they usually take from players’ buy-ins. This means players get to keep all of their money to compete for prizes. This move is a big deal because it makes the whole experience better for players, whether they’ve been playing for years or are just starting out. Now, when you join a tournament, every dollar you put in goes directly toward the prizes. This gives players more reasons to play, push themselves, and hopefully win big.
What does a player want more? Would be a great question to ask. Well, there’s a big event called the WPT Global Warm Up festival happening from April 19th to 28th. With no fees, players are even more excited to join in, making the event even more thrilling and successful. It’s like taking the excitement of poker to a whole new level!
PokerListings Explains
The conclusion of this all is very easy to formulate, WPT Global’s decision to extend their rake-free promotion (In March they handed out insane amounts of money in freerolls), is truly a great gesture and it represents a watershed moment in the right direction of the evolution of online poker.
Prioritizing the interests of its player community and redefining the meaning of value creation. It cannot be called coincidence that WPT Global is currently in the top 3 of online poker operators worldwide.

How much support could you give your parents as a poker player? In truth, while most of us try to do our best, only a few have enough money and time for grand gestures. One of these few is high roller Dylan Linde who recently shared his story on the Table 1 Podcast.
Who Is Dylan Linde?
American Dylan Linde is a renowned professional poker player who has won more than $7.6M in live MTTs. He’s also an author of the poker book “Mastering Mixed Games: Winning Strategies for Draw, Stud and Flop Games” published in 2019. Moreover, he’s also acquired a WSOP bracelet for his victory in the $1,5K PLO Hi/Lo / Limit Omaha Hi/Lo / Big – Mixed Games in 2021.
Dylan has been playing poker since the early 2000’s. He started as a university student but after tasting some poker action suddenly realized that he wanted to be a poker pro. So after seven years of studying, he sacrificed his uncertain academic future to the game. And he didn’t miss.
As of April 2024, The Hendon Mob describes Dylan as a number one player in his home state Idaho having 294s ITM in live poker events with 10 victories among them.

How Dylan Linde Literally Saved His Mom
WSOPC Hammond 2016
When the bank crises struck the USA in 2008, Dylan’s family faced unexpected problems. At this point, Dylan already had enough money to “gamble on his own”. His mother was successful as well — she owned car dealerships across Idaho.
Still, the financial crisis caught them off guard: the dealerships went bankrupt with approximately $2 million in debt. It was then that Dylan decided to help as best as he could — and used all his money to do so. As he tells the Table 1 Podcast’s hosts:
“My mom had personally guaranteed all of her stuff for her business, so they were going to take her house away. So I gave her basically my entire bankroll to stop that and I was basically down to zero again“.
Ultimately, the decision came easily to Dylan because of his immense love for his mom. Luckily, his “poker from zero” period didn’t last long: he was lucky enough to get backed by Chris Moormon, and returned to the grind. Moorman’s backing gave Dylan an opportunity to play his first WPT ever — which turned out to be unforgettable:
“I sat down at my table at LAPC, and Mike Matusow is on my right. I’m like: “Oh my God, Mike Matusow! This is incredible!”. And then an hour in, Phil Helmuth sits two to my left, and I’m just like: “This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me!”.
So I end up busting Mike and he gave me a copy of his book — I still have it in my house — it says: “Dylan go f*ck yourself. Mike.”. I am friendly with Mike now — it’s like he has no recollection about this whatsoever. But I cherish that book.”
Busy days for GGPoker. With the awesome ongoing Road To Vegas promotion, GGPoker has just completed their WSOP Circuit Online Series, where a Dutchman collected $780,000 for his win in the Main Event. On top of it all, Chess Master Alexandra Botez has joined the ambassador team, coming up with a grand promotion!
Perhaps one of the best, if not the biggest online event series so far was the WSOP Super Circuit Main Event on GGPoker. With multiple starting flights, and numerous satellites, there was a total of 20,854 entries , accumulating a total prize pool of $10,427,000 (just shy of the $10M GTD).
On April Fool’s, the second day of the event was played until just nine players remained. One of the players who would make it to the final was Loek ‘Lskywalker’ Hahn, hailing from The Netherlands.
Dutchman Wins Staggering Cash Prize in Main Event
In conversation with a local Dutch poker media outlet, he explained more about his epic run, coming in as 7th out of 9 players into the final table. Loek mentioned that he had just finished his studies in Civil Engineering at the University of Twente, having poker as a hobby on the side.
Usually, he does play at such limits of buy-ins, but he managed to qualify for the tournament a couple of weeks back. Not having any expectations going into Day 2, he even played some live poker before the online tournament started, which would turn out to become the run of a lifetime.
After winning a flip early during the final day with Ace-King against Queens, it was looking ‘LSkywalker’. He had accumulated so many chips, that he didn’t even feel some of the coolers he received leading up to the final stage.
The commanding chip lead was never in question, and so it was Loek Hahn from The Netherlands who took down the WSOP Super Circuit Main Event, collecting a staggering amount of prize money, and the legendary trophy!
Perhaps we will see him back during some of the next online events, such as the $20M GTD GGMillion$ WEEK, which kicked off at the beginning of this week.

The 2024 Irish Open Main Event stood as proof of the continuously increasing popularity of poker, drawing a massive field of 3,233 entries to the prestigious Royal Dublin Society venue, where it’s being held for the second consecutive year. This amazing turnout was potentially fueled the most by sponsors PokerStars and Paddy Power Poker, who had sent a staggering amount of qualifiers towards Dublin.
Among this sea of contenders, one player emerged triumphant after four epic days of intense competition. Tero Laurila, born and raised in Finland, grabbed the chip lead on Day 3 after an outstanding performance and also started the final day as leader of the pack. Despite not banking the biggest amount of prize money, he will walk away with all the fame, in addition to a great Main Event trophy and €292,685.
It wouldn’t take much time before people realized to ask themselves the question if the guaranteed prize pool would be met, but with how much more the total prize pool would set a new grand record. The initial guaranteed prize pool was €1,000,000, and with 3,233 entries, it turned out to be €3,152,175 in the end! A great achievement of the event organizers JP McCann and Paul O’Reilly, alongside their 450-headed staff.
The Final Touch – Go Finland!
In the penultimate stage, Laurila faced off against Ninh van Hiep, a stalwart of the Dublin poker scene. Despite Ninh’s initial chip advantage, negotiated during the pivotal deal discussions, Laurila’s strategic moves and terrifying focus propelled him to victory. Mark Johnston, a promising newcomer to the professional poker circuit and with just 21 years of age rounded out the deal, securing a commendable €232,685 for his third-place finish and cementing his reputation in the poker world.
Ninh van HiepTero Laurila
Hailing from Finland, Laurila took a gross of experience with him towards The Irish Poker Open, gained by being present in the poker scene for nearly two decades. Where Omaha cash games might be his favourite poker format, he has proven to be very handy with just two cards as well. Not only does Laurila bank the biggest cash of his career, but he is also the first Finnish champion of the Irish Open, Europe’s oldest poker event. Where the Fins are known for being a great sport when it comes to railing their fellow companions, it wasn’t any different this time around.
The Final table gave us a broad diversity of playing styles, with notable contenders including WSOPC ring winner Georgios Tsouloftas and seasoned Irish poker veteran Oliver Boyce, adding just that bit of extra glance to the final stage of the tournament. The electrifying atmosphere which went through the venue from the first, until the last minute, got backed up by a chance for an Irishman winning the biggest prize in the event.
Big Names Drop Before Entering the Harbour
Day 3 and 4 witnessed a flurry of action as the field narrowed, with memorable eliminations including Irish poker legend Padraig Parkinson, talented and well-running Simon Wilson, Dutchman and world traveler Tobias Peters, and top-notch players such as Kimmo Kurko and Conor Beresford. The tension reached its peak as the final table bubble burst with the exit of Cypriot online qualifier Konstantinos Vatseris, paving the way for the intense three-handed play that would ultimately decide the fate of the remaining contenders.
Simon WilsonNiall Farell
Where negotiations for a deal ensued among the remaining three players, the prize money was equitably distributed. After that, we would witness a great masterclass of eventual winner Laurila, who finished it off in style by making Quads Queens during the final hand.
With a mix of happiness and disbelief, Laurila’s victory became reality and the poker media jumped right on him to get his first thoughts. As Finnish as he is, his answers were rather short at the beginning, but when he calmed down and got his senses back, he gave a great winner’s interview to the host of The Irish Open, Laura Cornelius.
The Irish Open 2024 – A Great Reflection of Poker at its Finest
The Irish Open 2024 did not disappoint a single moment this year, whether you were at the venue or following everything from home, the great atmosphere could be felt from anywhere in the world. Before the event, we spoke to JP McCann, one of the organizers of the event, and he already had explained that this year would become even more epic than ever before.
With the Ireland vs England challenge (Fintan Hand vs Benjamin Spragg), the Niall ‘Firaldo’ Farrell leaderboard, innovative side events, live music and DJ sets, and the whole Irish magic going through every room and wall, there was no doubt that this event would turn out to become one of the biggest successes in European poker history.
Jp McCann and Paul O’Reilly are sitting on a pot of gold, as the event will keep on growing and growing. Backed up by great sponsors, there is no doubt that rather sooner than later, they might need to add another floor to the venue, to be able to have enough space for the magical 5,000 entries, which McCann previously mentioned to happen shortly.
Congratulations Tero Laurila, you are the 2024 Irish Open Main Event Champion!

The Irish Open 2024 Exceeds All Expectations!
A week before the event we spoke to JP McCann, one of the organizers of the event. It’s safe to say that The Irish Open is one of Europe’s key live events for poker players from all around the world, and is going by the title ‘oldest active event’ out there. Not only do poker players enjoy great poker action in Dublin, but the ‘craic’ is what describes The Irish Open at its finest.
JP McCann as a person, might just be a great reflection of what people can expect during the event from all the staff which is making the world the round in Dublin. Professionalism, kindness, and a great person to have some banter with.

A couple of weeks ago, the Triton Poker Series landed in Jeju, South Korea. The High Stakes community, led by iconic players such as Phil Ivey, Paul Phua, Tom Dwan, Patrik Antonius, and Fedor Holz, set several records in various tournaments. One of them, the $100K Main Event, goes into the history books as the biggest $100K event of all time.
One of the players who always attends high roller events as such is perhaps one of the players who always manages to reach far in tournaments, but somehow always gets stuck when the real money is being divided. He did, however, win a sit ‘n go tournament which was organized for a good cause.
Alexandra Botez- Chess Master and GGPoker Ambassador
Where PokerStars introduces Barny Boatman as their newest addition, it is GGPoker who sets the poker world check-mate by introducing Alexandra Botez as their newest GGPoker team member.
Conquering the chess world is one of her achievements, being an online streamer/influencer is another one, but to become successful in poker takes a lot of working hours! Will she manage to go in the footsteps of fellow team members such as Daniel Negreanu, Fedor Holz, or Kevin Martin?

Happy Easter! 🐰
In March 2024, Jeju island in South Korea hosted its second Triton Poker Super High Roller Series. Here are three noteworthy stories from the series.
Brewer, Dvoress and Vogelsang “Won” Charity Obligations
The community favorite and most unfortunate poker player (according to WSOP 2023 participants) Chris Brewer kicked off his Triton Jeju 2024 with a special victory. He became the winner of the Raise for Change Charity Exhibition Game, the restricted Sit & Go for 7 players.
Each participant paid the entry fee of $5,000 resulting in the total prize pool reaching $35,000.

This victory brought Brewer $10,000 — the organisers doubled this amount to be donated to a charity foundation chosen by Chris. He picked Melanoma Research Alliance — the charity organisation developing methods of prevention and treatment of melanoma (one of the most aggressive forms of cancer), for personal reasons:
“My mom had a melanoma scare this year. She is now having preventative infusions to ensure she remains cancer free. I’m happy to be able to give something to a cause I care about.”
Two other players were “tasked” to pick one foundation each after having their prize money doubled as well:
Daniel Dvoress — took 2nd place and donated $12,000 to Evergreen whose goal is to improve public spaces.
Christoph Vogelsang — took 3rd place and sent $8,000 to Mary’s Meals charity organisation that provides meals to chronically hungry children.
Moreover, all top 3 players had their buy-ins refunded.
Andy Wong, Triton Poker Series CEO, thanked players for their contribution to the charity cause and added:
“Poker has the power to bring people together and make a positive impact and we were delighted to see this event succeed.”
By the way, Chris Brewer couldn’t win any other events at Triton Jeju 2024, but made it to two final tables:
6th place, $266K — $40K Mystery Bounty;
8th place, $543K — $100K Main Event.
These winnings helped him reach over $22M on The Hendon Mob.
Third Bulgarian Is the Charm
Three Bulgarians at once reached the final table of the $40K Mystery Bounty, where 190 entries made a $3.8M prize pool. And one of them ended up winning the event.
The first Bulgarian to leave the final table was Yulian Bogdanov after being busted out by his countryman Alex Kulev. 7th place and 3 bounties brought Yulian $295,000.

Alex Kulev himself was eliminated in 4th place, netting $610,000 including 6 bounties. After that he approached the last remaining Bulgarian Dimitar Danchev and shook his hand wishing luck.

Dimitar Danchev was the last to leave — he won the event and took $1,344,000. After the victory he admitted that money was not as important to him as the trophy — he coveted it since the victory of fellow Bulgarian and his friend Ognyan Dimov in the $30K 7-Handed on Triton Monte Carlo 2023.

Remarkably, Triton Jeju 2024 became a series with almost all Bulgarian Top-5 in live tournaments taking their share of the spotlight. Even excluding payouts in the $40K Mystery Bounty, the Bulgarian players collaterally reached over $3M in prizes.

Mario Mosböck Showed Master-Class in Short Stack Strategy
The unbelievable achievement of getting the trophy, the title and a million dollars without ever exceeding 20bb on the final table — the story of the Austrian football player Mario Mosböck from $25K GGMillion$ Live. The event had 305 entries and accumulated a prize pool of $7,625,000.
Mosbök began the final table with a 4bb stack, and was able to double up several times, but never it let him reach at least 20bb.
With help of patience and luck, he made it to heads-up, where he made a deal with Spaniard Sergio Aido. The game was decided when Mosbök with a pair of Sixes and Aido with AKs went all in.
As a result, Sergio was granted the largest payout of the event — $1,237,804, but Mario became the winner with $1,191,196 and a trophy. He was so shocked by his result that he spent a while holding his head in joyful confusion.
Mario Mosböck Can’t Believe His Triumph
In the post-game interview, Mario shifted focus from his feelings and emotions to the impact of the PokerCode team to his success:
“All the boys are really smart, really driven. They want to compete at the highest level…If it was me alone, I’m not sure I would be playing the Super High Rollers. But you can talk to people about how you feel, your concerns. They can give you feedback. It was a community decision. They said, come on, you’re good enough.”
By the way, besides this victory, Mario managed to reach ITM on Triton Poker Jeju 2024 two more times:
14th place in $150K NLH 8-Handed — $281,000;
15th place in $100K Main Event — $298,000.
Curiously, calculating the exact amount of Mosbök total prizes in live tournaments is impossible as he is not listed on TheHendonMob and is labelled as an “Unknown Player”.
The Strange Case of Mario Mosböck Anonymity on the Hendon Mob
GGPoker revealed last week the name of their new brand ambassador, and she is not quite unfamiliar to the poker crowd! Alexandra Botez, a Chess greatness from Dallas, became an online streamer in 2016, with currently over 1,000,000 followers. Not too long ago, she set her eyes on taking it up against the world of poker!
Botez was born in Dallas in 1995, as her parents settled down in Vancouver after emigrating from Romania. She has a younger sister as well, called Andrea, and with her, she started the successful stream channel ‘BotezLive’.
While studying at the University of Dallas, she became the president of the Chess club. In 2013, she became FIDE champion. FIDE, widely known in the chess community, is an international organization established in 1924 in Paris, France. Nowadays, FIDE unites 191 national federations from all across the world and is the perfect place to compete against both- amateurs and professionals. Following the ranking of FIDE, Botez now has a rating in Standard Chess of 1986, and a career-high Blitz ranking of 2066.
Between 2013 and 2016, she was rated over 2090 in Standard Chess.
What Brings a Chess Master Into Poker?
It is not uncommon for chess players to take a shot in the world of poker. The world’s number one chess player, Magnus Carlsen, is known for competing in live- and online poker games around the world.
Chess players have great minds and are often multiple steps ahead of their opponents, but that doesn’t make them automatically successful in poker. There is still a lot of knowledge to gain when entering another game completely blank, but it’s not unthinkable that chess players have an advantage over non-chess players who enter poker games for the first time, just because of their great mind(set) and all that comes with it.
Alexandra Botez on a Poker Mission
Alexandra Botez entered the poker world a couple of years ago, during the COVID-19 period. Since then, she has starred in one of the world’s greatest cash games such as Hustler Casino Live, where she competed against Tom Dwan, Mr. Beast, Phil Helmuth, and other major influencers. She also starred in Season 13 of Poker After Dark.
Where her live tournament results are not extraordinarily rare, with ten cashes within 3-years time, she is definitely a player who is on a mission. In February 2023, she secured her first victory in a $550 Hyper Turbo tournament, beating a field of 79 entries, and taking home the trophy and $10,815.
After having promoted several other poker operators, Botez is now officially a member of the GGPoker Ambassador Team. With the help of poker talent Landon Tice, and top regular Chance Kornuth, she is making incredible steps in her game, all to become successful in poker, just like she does in chess.
The way GGPoker revealed her ambassadorship was quite the thing, having Canadian poker revelation, and GGPoker ambassador, Daniel Negreanu daring her for a Heads-Up match to introduce her to the world as a member of the GGPoker team.
Heads-up Against Daniel Negreanu
During the Heads-Up match, she explained to Daniel that she came in touch with poker because of her father, who is actually a big fan of Daniel Negreanu. Not only does Botez answer some very great questions from Daniel, but she also fires back with great questions and tries to let Daniel give some tips about ‘reads and tells’ in poker.
She does recognize in the interview, that she is still new to the game. And then the comparison with chess comes. She mentioned she played 3x at the World Series of Poker, and at all times she busted out of the tournament with pocket Kings.
The swing in emotions of poker is the toughest part for her she admits, while Negreanu confesses to not fully having his emotions under control in certain spots either.
Chess is her main sport, and she will keep on competing at the highest level, despite her focus on poker nowadays.
We from PokerListings, are confident enough to say that Alexandra Botez is a really good signing for GGPoker. If that is because she brings a whole new community in touch with poker, or of the chance of becoming very successful in poker, people start hesitating, but we won’t!
Welcome to the world of poker, Alexandra Botez!

Kevin Martin, a reality TV star from Canada, known for his winning appearance on the TV show ‘Big Brother Canada’, challenged himself with one of the craziest bankroll challenges ever done. Besides this, Kevin Martin is also a respectable online streamer and is an ambassador for giant GGPoker.
In the past weeks, Kevin Martin has challenged himself to start with a bankroll completely from scratch. This would mean he had to abandon his full current bankroll. To make it all a little bit more exciting, he was going to stream around the clock to let his community feel the sweat alongside him!
How It All Started – Streaming 24/7
Just like almost any other professional poker player, ‘Kmart’ started playing at the micro-stakes online. Building a bankroll from scratch is something which divides the best from the rest, and ten years after the start of his poker career, he wanted to repeat this. All to show the people that you can actually build up a steady bankroll from zero, by showing heart and determination.
To start his quest for glory, he pawned off several items which would give him some roll to start with, eventually hoping to make $5,000, as that was on his balance when he started his professional career. His Twitch community could endorse the whole saga live on his channel, and when he was taking a nap, replays would be aired.
It became really a controversial topic in the poker industry; Why would someone start doing this as a professional poker player? But Kevin Martin is Kevin Martin, he already knows how it feels to have cameras pointed at him 24/7 as he competed in ‘Big Brother Canada’. Besides having his own Twitch Channel for years already, he also attended the successful and award-winning TV show Poker After Dark: Game of Gold.
Many poker professionals tried bankroll challenges as well, and many of them failed to do. Kevin Martin was aware it might turn out to be a failure, but the result might have been more disappointing than he would have imagined in his worst dreams.
Besides the actual poker topic, Martin took his stay in a small apartment, solely for his team being locked up and streaming his challenge. Besides the costs of the apartment, he also has a team around him which doesn’t work for free obviously.
500 Hours of Streaming
After 500 hours of streaming, Martin had profited only $500 during his challenge, while being up a bit more than that throughout the challenge. Not all the hours he spent on playing the micro stakes online, as he also took time to get some sleep, eat, and continue his business together with his team.
Besides the many people criticizing him openly on social media channels, for not being determined enough, not crushing the stakes and whatnot; Martin realistically concluded the whole challenge had been a failure in terms of poker. ‘’We just didn’t get there. We just didn’t crush. I’ll take responsibility, I could have played better’’, he had mentioned in the media.
Three entire weeks, for the net rate of barely $3 an hour, Martin made it happen to keep the community alive and kicking. Regardless of what people conclude about his challenge, he managed to get a stream up and running for 500 hours straight, 500 hours!
The Final Conduct
When checking in at his stream, he was crushing it in poker tournaments going from $2 to $10 dollars a tournament, sometimes with some action sold as well. The peak of his bankroll went up to $1,300 but then suffered a bit of a rundown immediately after that.
In the end, the mission had failed. But this doesn’t stop Kevin Martin from taking up challenges in the future, we are certain of that. A top entertainer, with wise words as he stated that for most people it’s not even wise to start from scratch. Many players have busted their rolls, but as long as you keep your sanity and value money and take care of it!
Kevin Martin’s Poker Life
Being for a decade in the game of poker, Kevin Martin has had his challenges throughout his career! By starting off streaming in 2015, he rapidly made it happen to strengthen his game and work on his entertaining skills to make his stream channel worthwhile. In 2017, he appeared in Season 5 of ‘Big Brother Canada’ and ended up winning it, after being in the TV show in a previous season already.
After getting some pretty decent results in the live poker scene, in 2019 it became really silent around the person Kevin Martin, he had decided to retire from poker. Later he stated that he felt burnt out, uninspired, out of shape, etc. Not only did he quit poker, but also his social media channels and content production.
2020 can be named the year of Kevin Martin. He signed yet another ambassador deal, and this time with giant GGPoker. In 2021 he got married to his everlasting love Pili, and up until this day, Martin has been crushing it when it comes to content and poker online! His live career earnings to date show us that he has won over $470,000 in his career, of which $72,200 was his biggest live cash.

Catching up With JP McCann
JP McCann is the Tournament Director and Host of The Irish Open, as well as owner of the JP Poker Card Club & Casino. He has been a key figure in the poker community, particularly in Ireland, for many years. JP McCann has served as the Tournament Director for the Irish Poker Open, one of the longest-running and most prestigious poker tournaments in Europe.
Under his direction, the Irish Poker Open has continued to attract players from around the world, maintaining its status as a major event on the international poker calendar. McCann’s expertise and dedication have contributed significantly to the success and reputation of the Irish Poker Open as a must-attend event and surely will keep on increasing over the next years as the ambition of JP McCann is just endless.
McCann:‘’As one of the oldest events on the European Calendar, the Irish Open has made big steps. Since we took over the concept, we aimed to have 2000 entries within five years, people were laughing about these ambitions. Excluding the Covid period, we have met our expectations, and last year we had a total of 2491 entries, accumulating a prize pool of around 2,5 Million.’’
Jp McCann – David Docherty – Paul O’ReillyColette Doherty – Winner Irish Open 1980The Irish Open 2023
The Irish Open is not just about poker. Side activities are equally valued and JP explained they wanted to make the event different from others.
McCann: ‘’Poker is almost a side event if that makes sense. A live event is like a concert almost, with free entertainment for everyone. This year we will add more fun stuff to the schedule such as Horse Racing, a sheep shearing contest, dog races, beer pong, live music and a DJ as well, and shuffleboard. People are coming from all over the world, with Canadian players coming in big numbers this year. I’ve hear a very nice expression about the event: It’s just one big Home Game’’
Things to Consider When Visiting the Irish Open
The Irish Open keeps innovating every single year, all led by intentions of making the event open and achievable for poker players all around the world. When asking JP McCann what things players should be considering this year for The Irish Open, he came up with the following:
McCann:‘’Last year was the first time in the current location at the Royal Dublin Society. Last year, we had 133 tables altogether, whereas this year we increased that number to around 175 tables. We not only increased in tables but also poker staff, with a total of 450 staff members working on the event this year.
This time, we are making use of the PokerLens software, which is connected to the K-Holdem software we are using for running the event. Players can not only register themselves for tournaments, they can also register for the Cash Games. Not only that, the app will keep notifying you once there is a free seat available, allowing you to enjoy other things in the meantime.’’

What Can We Expect From the Irish Open in the Coming Years?
The Irish Open stands for lots of poker action, and endless entertainment to make sure not just poker players will be able to enjoy their ‘time off’, but also travel partners who perhaps are not so much into poker, will be able to enjoy themselves. With the glance of the Irish culture, for sure this is never going to be an issue to keep improving these aspects.
When asking JP McCann about the future of The Irish Open, he had the following to say:
McCann: ‘’Our brand is known for great poker tournaments and cash game action, as well as everything around poker. Despite big numbers turning up every year, we are looking into it to bring the event more towards the people who might not be able to travel to Ireland.
One of these examples was the event in Cyprus beforehand. We are looking for venues outside Europe, in for example Australia or Canada. Will it have the same numbers as our event in Dublin? Probably not, but the plan always has been to make The Irish Open, the biggest event in this buy-in range, so we want to make it more accessible to players from all over the world.’’
Notable Names to Visit Dublin
We are confident enough that many big players from around the globe will make their way to Dublin. Not only in terms of players, but also with staff members such as James Hartigan, Joe Stapleton, and former Main Event Champ Griffin Benger, who will be taking care of the live streams.
Where current hype of the poker scene, and newest member of the PokerStars Ambassador Team, Barny Boatman, unfortunately is not able to make it this year, names such as Vanessa Kade, Steve O’Dwyer, Fintan Hand, and Benjamin Spragg, will be amongst the players attending the event.
We would like to wish the staff, the players, and everyone else involved, good luck for the event this year!
The highly anticipated Mediterranean Poker Party (MPP), is a tournament series being held at the luxurious 5-star all-inclusive Merit Royal Diamond and Spa Resort, in Northern Cyprus. The organizers have recently announced to have made slight changes to the tournament series, now departing on May 2nd, and ending on May 12th 2024.
This year, the event will host be hosted by the Mediterranean Poker Party (MPP), as well as the EA Poker Tour (EAPT). Where last year it was skipped from the calendar, in 2022 there were many notable names on the island, all competing for grand trophies in various major events. Players like Robert Yong, Phil Nagy, Espen Uhlen Jorstad, Hannes Jeschka, Artem Voziianov, Antanas ‘Tony G’ Guoga, Stephen Chidwick, Kahle Burns, Steve O’Dwyer, Daniel Tang, and Pieter Aerts, all took home great results and some of them even victories!
With six major events on the schedule, covering several side events, there will be plenty of mid- to high-stakes action available. The EAPT series had this year their real breakthrough in Europe, with events in places like Bratislava, Madrid, Malta, and London. The world of poker has undergone tremendous development over the past years if not decades. When reflecting on the greatest moments in its history, there are countless memorable events to consider, making it a somewhat daunting task to recount them all. However, one moment can be taken on it: Barny Boatman’s victory in the EPT Main Event in Paris.
In the dynamic world of poker, few achievements resonate as profoundly as Barny Boatman’s triumph at the EPT Main Event in Paris. Going back to the late 90s, Boatman, alongside Joe Beevers, Ross Boatman, and Ram Vaswani, formed The Hendon Mob, unknowingly sowing the seeds for the world’s largest live poker database.
Despite his monumental win, Boatman’s humility remains intact. Speaking with him, he reveals a refreshing and modest personality, a testament to his character. His appointment as a PokerStars ambassador during Episode 300 of ‘Poker in the Ears’ underscores his status as a great personality of the game. But not only that, it shows once again that PokerStars is only satisfied with the world’s finest!
In a revealing interview with PokerListings, Boatman reflects on his journey and the significance of this new role. As the poker world eagerly anticipates his next move, Boatman’s humble legacy as a formidable force in the game is assured.
Melvin: Hi Barny! It’s great to meet you, and it shows once again the poker community is so great to work at, where everyone is so approachable. It’s an honour having you here. You have won the last EPT Main Event, and have now been named as the new ambassador of PokerStars. Has it sunk in a bit already?
Barny:‘’Yes, I mean, the party last night of the 300th episode of ‘Poker in the Ears’, really brought it back to me quite a lot. Because at the time of the EPT, it was quite overwhelming. The support I was getting from friends and from people whom I didn’t even know, was very exciting. Since then, I have been with friends, at home, doing normal things. When I went there last night, at the Hippodrome, it really brought back that sense of what an exciting and big deal it actually was.’’
Melvin: Of course, there has come so much at you since then. How did you hold up till now?Did you play any more poker?
Barny:‘’I did play poker a couple of nights ago. I went to my friend Victoria Coren-Mitchell‘s home game, which is just a friendly fun game where I get invited to every now and again. And its really enjoyable, with old friends. We played very small stakes, but we still like to compete. I walked away losing 50 pounds, and I was like: OK, this is the real life again.’’
Recap of the EPT Paris Final Table
Melvin: And now you are the newest ambassador of operator giant PokerStars, congratulations on that! How does something like that come together?
Barny: ‘’The relationship with PokerStarsjust feels so very natural to me. It feels very natural because PokerStars has always been there since the very early days of the European Poker Tour, supporting that, which was very very focused on the interest of the players and making it a better experience for them. So, you know, my heart was already with them. I do not even know who brought it up first, but it was just seemed very natural as a next step from what happened in Paris that I would be keeping my relationship with them.’’
Melvin: What can we expect from Barny Boatman as a PokerStars ambassador?
Barny:”I think that my focus and where my value relies, mainly towards PokerStars at least initially, is very much into supporting and growing the live side of the game and the connection between the poker site and that live game in terms of encouraging people to come and play, and try to win satellites. And I hope that people look at me and say like: Hey, maybe I can do it too.
I do have ideas of things that I’d like to see maybe included on the online site, but maybe it’s a bit too soon to speak up as I need to get more involved before doing that. There are people who watch the live game, they watch the excellent streams on PokerStars TV and so forth. And they maybe feel the game is being taken to a certain level, that they wouldn’t be confident to compete at.
When they hear Sam Grafton and Maria Hoexplaining in detail all the thinking that goes into the decisions that happen in poker. And what I would like to say is that: Yes, it’s all very important, and it’s great that you can learn so much from these people. It’s also important to remember why you entered the game because you loved it. You used to play around the kitchen table, it’s still the same game, and the rules are still the same. You can still bring something extra to the game, you can bring your personality, and you can improvise.
If the game was just the numbers if that was all it was, it wouldn’t be the game that it is, so don’t be intimidated. I want to be there at all the tours such as the EPT, UK & Ireland stops. And also other places, and eventually Latin America, and Spain, I want to be there welcoming people back into the game. Like it was for the first time, spending time with people who really have that love and enjoyment of the game and encouraging them to take part in everything that PokerStars has to offer.’’
Melvin: You have won a crazy amount of money. Besides your ambassadorship and the plans which go along with that, what’s next for you?
Barny: ‘’Well, it’s a real shame that the one tournament that I try never to miss. is The Irish Open. The best and oldest tournament of the European circuit, but it just so happens that this year I have got a wedding of an old friend and some events that lead up to that. And I cannot go to that.
But I’m going to do something that is equal I think, which is to go back to my old home of Madrid and play in the Estrellas Poker Tour event which starts in a few days. And I’m really looking forward to that, I love the casino in Gran Villa and I think the people are great with some really good players.
The young players come from all around Spain to play it, and the play is of a very high standard. I get an opportunity to see old friends as well. If there is one thing that can make up for not going to Dublin, is being able to go to Madrid. And that’s what I will be doing first.
After that, it’s going to be Monte Carlo, which is in some ways the most prestigious event on the EPT. A very luxurious, and very high-standard tournament. I am going to be there for the whole thing which I have never done before and am really looking forward to that.
Made plans for WSOP already of course and that comes quite soon after Monte Carlo. And then I will be back for all of the EPT. It is wonderful to think that I’m going to be back on the road and go to all these fantastic places. Paris, Monte Carlo, Prague, Cyprus, and Barcelona where I used to live. They are all at really good times in the year to go to these places as well. As well as playing these amazing tournaments, I’m going to be travelling around all the places that I love. The immediate future looks pretty good to me.’’
Melvin: Besides these events, have you got anything else you have planned to do?
Barny:‘’There is something outside poker? No yeah, of course, I mean I do love to travel and actually as it happens, the deal comes at the right time for me. In terms of having more time and fewer other responsibilities in my private life, I can really enjoy both travelling and playing on the tour and going to see old friends all around the world.
Concerning the money, I’m looking at houses. Thinking about moving from the flat I’ve been living in already for a long time, and it’s lovely to have some options now. However, mainly I’m already living the life that I really want to live, with the people I really want to be with, and this is just all going to make it even better. More than what I already love, there is no downside really. I’m really happy about everything.’’
Melvin: PokerStars has some big names out there as ambassadors. What are your expectations to be blended into their team?
Barny:‘’I know some of them better than others. I am a big fan of all of them, and I feel very honoured to be part of such a team of clever people really, great communicators. I do think that PokerStars, with myself left out of course, is very smart about who they engage with as ambassadors and who they choose to represent them. They are quite a wide range of people, but people like Sam Grafton who plays on the highest level and is also a very good communicator. He explains very well in commentary what is going on, and explains what they are thinking. Spraggy, Fintan, and LexVeldhuis, on Twitch. People follow them and explain what they are thinking during the game, which is making the software very accessible.
Marle Spragg is very funny, right up my street. I feel like joining a really cool game, you know. To be honest, I have got a little bit of an Imposter syndrome at the moment because they are all so much part of that world. But I guess I’m kind of like representing another part of that poker world. And at the same time, I think that you know, a lot ways in terms of personality and in terms of love for the game, I think that I will fit in with that lot very well.
Not to forget about Joe Stapleton and James Hartigan, both great characters. I just know I’m going to enjoy my time there a lot at PokerStars.’’
Melvin: The Hendon Mob must have been quite happy with your result as well in Paris, knowing you were one of the founders of the brand. It put them in the picture again.
Barny:‘’Yeah, I think The Hendon Mobhas never been off the map in poker. But it never hurts to get a bit of a name- and brand recognition around. I love the fact that they have taken the site to another level, and doing things like The Hendon Mob tournaments. And I hope they are not going to see it as anything other than a positive thing that their name gets mentioned and that the history of the player gets mentioned.
They developed it immensely, and it’s nice they kept the name, The Hendon Mob. It was our legacy, something we made, and now it was secure. When looking at it, with their GPI brand, they do it exactly in the right way, and it’s great to see.’’
Melvin: Two WSOP Bracelets, an EPT title, and various other achievements such as the ambassadorship at PokerStars. Is there some title you always had in mind to add to your collection?
‘’First of all, my very good friend Victoria Coren-Mitchell was the first person ever to win two EPT trophies. And when I played in her game the other night, of course, I was reminded of this. So I need to win two more, so I can give it back to her a bit. I know that won’t be easy.
I guess it would be nice to get a WPTwhen I get a chance right? People still talk about the Triple Crown as being a thing. And you know, they are very very good events as well.
But really, you know, I wouldn’t say I’m not greedy, everybody in poker wants to win more things. But I really think that as well as winning a title on the EPT, just the opportunities that it’s given me is a prize on its own. Whatever comes, it comes, I will be very happy however it goes.’’
When thinking of flagship tournaments in online poker, one tournament which comes to mind straight away, is the GGMillion$ event. But this event is not just an event, it has a buy-in of $10,300 and a guaranteed prize pool of $1,000,000! Although, you can qualify yourself in various ways for this event, it’s still meant for the top grinders out there!
The Triton Series in Jeju is currently in full swing. Just like all other major events in live poker, GGPoker is widely spread and also blended in at the Triton Series. When speaking of online poker however, one of the main events every single week, is the GGMillion$ event. All top-notch players such as Niklas Astedt, Artur Martirosian, Ole Schemion, Michael Addamo, they are all at the top of their seats to play this event.
GGPoker keeps track on the GGMillion$ results of players on their website, where you can see for example who has gathered most of the titles, or who has most cashes behind their name. Below you can find the top-10:

We are halfway of the month, and it means that there eleven events left of the WSOP Super Circuit. With buy-ins ranging from $50, all the way up to $1,500, the events can be marked as medium buy-in tournaments. When look at all the guaranteed prize pools, there is not much in the world left who might can top these.

A total of $10,000,000 will be given away through these promotions, alongside numerous of leader board challenges.
If that’s not enough, the Main Event of the WSOP Super Circuit, with a buy-in of $525, covers a guaranteed prize pool of $10,000,000 as well! Opening flights are available in great numbers, where the final day will be played on April 1st.

WPT Global still seems to be a new player on the market to many poker players. However, big steps have recentlybeen made, with players around the world starting to find their ways to, what we believe, is a real competitor among the giant online poker operators nowadays.
In the first part of this interview, you can find out what WPT Global stands for, and what is important to them when looking at the player pools. In this episode, we take a more detailed view on what Alex Scott, as well as WPT Global, thinks for example about the use of software such as PokerTracker and HUD’s.
Our very own Social Media Manager & Content Creator, Melvin Schroen conducted the interview.
Melvin: If you could change one thing in the poker industry, what would it be and why?
Alex Scott: ‘’The sense of apathy that I see among players and feel in the community. As a community, we know that the big sites are not treating players well. And players expect to be taken advantage of. We’re not surprised when there’s a scandal. We know that it’s not possible to win without rakeback, and poker on these sites has become a soulless grind.
I’m trying to change the industry by giving players a choice and a genuine alternative to the current market leaders.’’
Melvin: You have always prioritised players and put them first, even in your previous roles for other brands such as Microgaming and Full Tilt. Do you think this has brought you to where you are now in your current role? What do you think are the more important aspects to perform such a role in the best way possible?
Alex Scott: ‘’It’s very kind of you to recognise that because, as you can imagine, you don’t get a lot of positive feedback when you work for an online poker site. I guess I prioritise players because I am one. I think it’s really important to be able to empathise with players, put yourself in their shoes, and understand the game from their perspective.
We’ve all seen the damage that the Amaya era did. A few men in suits with MBAs or casino experience alone can’t run a poker site. Poker is far too complex and nuanced a game to be picked up in a few days – it takes months, years even, of passionate study and play to become an expert, and without that expertise, you’ll make mistakes.’’
Melvin: We’ve seen some massive events and promotions lately, such as the Winter Classic and Meet Up Game at Playground in Montreal, the WPT Voyage package giveaways, and now a month of MTTs that are rake-free. Can we expect more of the same when it comes to the scale of these promotions?
AlexScott: ‘’Absolutely, you can. One of the fantastic things about this company is the scale of our ambitions. We want to do amazing things, HUGE things, things that change the poker business forever. And we are not just full of ideas, we have the financial backing to make it a reality.
WPT Global will be the most generous poker site, in terms of value per player, in the world. You don’t have to believe me – as a player, you will feel it.’’
Melvin: A big topic of debate amongst regs is the banning of PT4 and other HUDs for GGPoker, which is now in their T&Cs. I know WPT Global is heavily favoured towards recreationals, so where do you stand on this subject?
Alex Scott: ‘’From the very beginning we have prohibited third-party software and we take active measures to prevent it. There are a couple of nuances here though. First, we have stopped short of banning software that can only be used at other sites. PokerTracker and HEM, for example, can’t be used on WPT Global but we know that players use them on other sites.
We also know that, as a challenger, many of our players will be playing with those other sites and not only with us, so banning these tools will hurt us. We prefer to be smarter about the problem and address the nefarious tools like hand converters and custom HUDs, that bad actors attempt to use to get around our restrictions.
Secondly, it’s obviously important to be able to track your own game. We know that this is an important part of being responsible, as a player. We’re working on a solution to this that will also protect the ecology of our games and I expect it to be released later this year.’’
Melvin: What are the current focus points for WPT Global in Europe? We have seen that for example, in Slovakia, you partnered with Polish Poker Days. Can we expect more collaborations from WPT Global like this? Will you offer online qualifiers for such events as well?
Alex Scott: ‘’While most of Europe is regulated and that makes things difficult for us as a fully legal poker business, there are certainly opportunities for us. You’ll have seen experiments like those in Ireland and Slovakia and you can expect two things – first, that we will double down on the experiments that work well, and secondly that we will try new experiments whenever possible! As a start-up, this is what we do best.’’
Melvin: What will be your main goals for WPT Global going forward? What impact do you hope to achieve?
Alex Scott: ‘’Our vision, which we share with WPT as a whole, is to make poker players’ dreams come true. So if you want to climb to the top of the tournament ladder, claim the triple crown, or be at the top of the Hendon Mob leaderboard in your country – the WPT can help you achieve that, and WPT Global is the best place to get started. If your dream is to travel the world meeting interesting people playing poker, we can be the first step on that journey as well.
If our impact on the world is that we’ve achieved this, and in a few years we can show numerous examples of how we’ve helped players to achieve their dreams, then I’m OK with that!’’
Melvin: Where do you envision WPT Global going, both in the short term and long?
Alex Scott: ‘’In the short term, I know we have a lot to do. The trust of the poker community is not easily earned, and it’s not enough for me to simply talk about what’s special about WPT Global and how incredibly well we’re going to treat players – we have to show it as well. So I don’t think our success will come in just a few months. More likely, in 12 to 24 months, after we’ve poured years of blood, sweat and tears into this business, people will see us as an overnight success!
In the long term, we aspire to be the biggest and most successful online poker site that there has ever been. To do that, we’ll not only have to beat the biggest poker businesses of the modern day but also the giants of the past. It’s quite a lofty goal but I am so excited to be on the journey with this team.’’
