While the 2026 World Series of Poker hits its halfway mark, the minds behind it have been hard at work on something completely different — the WSOP Academy. On June 17, the most famous poker series in the world took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the launch of its brand new free app, intended to help players learn the game from square one.
Here is what you should know about it.
What You Should Know About WSOP Academy
WSOP Academy is an app meant for poker rookies, people who have had few if any encounters with the game but are eager to learn. Here is how to access the app:
- Download the app on the App Store and Google Play.
- Log in with your GG Pass account or create one.
- Take the Poker IQ Test to determine where you stand.
- Start learning!
The most important part of this process is probably the Poker IQ Test, where the app tests your poker knowledge, speed, accuracy and judgment under pressure. The quiz helps place you on the correct learning path — seeing if you need a crash course in ranks or are already ready for a lesson in preflop.
WSOP Academy has 10 units in total, with each broken down into smaller segments that test your knowledge and provide one on one guidance with an animated version of one of the greatest players today, Daniel Negreanu. As you progress through the Academy, you’ll come head to head with the Academy’s legendary pros, forcing you to test your newfound skillset in a pressure cooker environment.
Through all of this, you’ll be collecting points and competing with other users for a prime spot on the in-app global ranking.
WSOP+ Membership and Its Benefits
The WSOP Academy app is free to download and free to use. That said, users with a WSOP+ membership will be given more opportunities, including a chance to play as many hands as you like per day, take on Sharky, the in-app ultimate challenger, and many more.
At this point, the question you’re asking yourself is — What is a WSOP+ membership?
The WSOP+ membership is the newest program to come from the World Series, arriving parallel with the Academy. This a three tier membership program, different from the WSOP Live App, which is making the rounds in Vegas this season.
