WPT Championship to Return to Wynn With $40M GTD Main Event

WPT Championship to Return to Wynn With $40M GTD Main Event

The World Poker Tour is doing something unprecedented…again.

In December 2022, the World Poker Tour hosted a new WPT World Championship series in partnership with Wynn Las Vegas. It was a unique experience, complete with a WPT Prime event, livestreamed WPT Ladies Championship, and a $10K buy-in WPT Main Event with a risky $10 million guarantee. Not only did the entire series garner rave reviews, that Main Event attracted players from around the world and built a prize pool that fell just short of $30 million.

This year, the World Poker Tour is outdoing itself. Its second WPT World Championship at Wynn will offer more live poker tournaments over a longer period of time.

And the Main Event has a $40 million guarantee.

Seriously.

An Eye-Catching Announcement

Poker players had been waiting for the World Poker Tour announcement through the summer. Rumors swirled that the news was going to be big, but no one predicted that the WPT World Championship Main Event would offer such a historic guarantee of $40 million.

In all, the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas will kick off on November 29 and run through December 23.

Secure a Package Through PokerListings Vegas Series

There are a number of ways to qualify to Vegas but one we really recommend is our PokerListings Vegas Series which is a leaderboard series we have in collaboration with WPT Global where the winner will be rewarded with a WPT World Championship package worth $12,400.

The WPT Prime Championship final table will take place (and be filmed) on December 19, the WPT Big One for One Drop will receive the same treatment on December 20, and the Main Event will happen under the bright lights of a TV final table on December 21.

The full schedule is available via Wynn, as is the detailed structure sheet for the Main Event.

That schedule details the 10 live satellites to the WPT World Championship Main Event, as well as the events that will discount entry fees for those who register before start times.

WPT CEO Adam Pliska said that the 2023 festival “is poised to reach new heights, and we wanted to match that expectation with a guarantee that no live poker tournament has ever seen before.”

Ryan Beauregard, Wynn Las Vegas Executive Director of Poker Operations, noted that this year’s festival is built on overwhelmingly positive feedback from last year’s inaugural series. “The astonishing support and excitement we’ve seen from the poker community after just one year is nothing like I’ve seen before.” That creates high expectations for this year, one which Beauregard appears confident they will meet.

According to the World Poker Tour, poker players and fans can expect additional announcements.
