Phil Ivey Dominating Cyprus! Wins SHRS Europe $50K PLO for $640K!

Phil Ivey has done it yet again after defeating the Bosnian poker beast Ali Imsirovic heads-up to win the 2022 PokerGo Tour Super High Roller Series (SHRS) Europe Event #4: $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha for $640,000 at the Merit Royal Hotel & Casino.

This remarkably is Ivey’s second big victory in less than a week as just a few days ago, Ivey took down the Triton Poker Cyprus Event #3: $75,000 No-Limit Short Deck for $1,170,000. His latest victory nearly completed a trifecta in a week as in between the two victories he finished runner-up to Mikita Badziakouski to bank $504,000.  

Ivey further cemented his status as one of the greatest of all time (GOAT). Ivey has done it all including excelling at nosebleed cash games both live and online and accumulating more than $35 million in tournament earnings as tracked by The Hendon Mob despite taking it relatively easy with a lighter schedule for nearly a decade. However, winning never gets old despite all his success throughout the decades.

“It’s still nice,” Ivey said about his win to PokerGO. “It’s always nice to win a tournament.”

Ivey’s Road to Glory

Ivey began the final table in third place only behind runner-up Imsirovic and third-place performer Joni Jouhkimainen. The day began with seven players eyeing the title with two of them scheduled to go home empty-handed.

Iakov Onuchin and Tomas Ribiero were unable to make it to the money leaving just five players remaining. Ivey then eliminated Dylan Weisman in the money before Imsirovic eliminated both Finns at the final table in Jouhkimainen and Eelis Parssinen.

Imsirovic began heads-up play with a small edge against Ivey but this didn’t last long as Ivey surged ahead to gain a 4:1 chip advantage over his opponent before finally delivering the final blow to win his latest title.

Ivey’s Success in Cyprus

Imsirovic won the 2021 PokerGO Tour Leaderboard and was miles ahead of everyone else on this year’s leaderboard before Ivey began to hit the high roller poker tournament scene in April.

Ivey has amassed nearly $2.9 million in tournament earnings in Cyprus during April alone to catapult him just inches behind Imsirovic. Keep in mind, that while many on the leaderboard have been competing in nosebleed events counted on the leaderboard all-year long, Ivey didn’t get his start until April when he recorded the following results.

Ivey already has managed an impressive lead on the SHRS Europe Leaderboard, which will crown the SHRS Europe champion with more than double the points of his nearest competitor in Andras Nemeth.
