“Goofy” Beats Mikita Badziakouski Heads-Up to Win the $10K Premiere Onyx High Roller Series for $1M

Goofy Overcomes a Six-Fold Chip Deficit Against Mikita Badziakouski

Goofy started the 9-handed final table with the third-largest stack at 44 BB, while Badziakouski had the fifth-largest stack at 34 BB. From 8-handed play through heads-up, luck was firmly on the Belarusian pro’s side.

At 8-handed, Badziakouski picked up pocket kings and doubled through chip leader Damir “MiracleQ” Gabdullin, who was dealt pocket queens. Badziakouski flopped a set and improved to quads on the turn for a 61 BB pot.

Belarusian took the chip lead. However, he doubled up short stacks a couple of times, and by 6-handed play his stack had dropped to 35 BB, just 1 BB behind Goofy.

At 6-handed, Badziakouski eliminated Gabdullin: AA vs. QQ, with the chips going in on a J J 5 flop for a 40 BB pot. Badziakouski once again took the chip lead with 60% of all the chips in play.

In 4th place, Badziakouski eliminated Giya Skhulukhiya. It was a 3-bet pot, and the chips went in on a 5 9 10 flop: Mikita had Q 5 , while Giya held Q J . The turn was J and the river 5 . 55 BB pot.

Two hands later, Badziakouski eliminated Oshri Lahmani. Lahmani shoved A J , and Badziakouski called with 8 6 . The board ran A A 7 5 9 .

Badziakouski entered heads-up with 70 BB against Goofy’s 11 BB. The difference between first and second place was $415K. Goofy knew Mikita would not agree to a deal. Mikita wanted to finish the heads-up as quickly as possible so he could jump into Day 1A of the $25K Main Event, but that didn’t happen: the heads-up lasted almost two more hours.

Goofy doubled up first, making trips with 8 7 while Nikita hit top pair with K J on 8 10 3 8 K . Goofy check-called the flop, both players checked the turn, and Goofy check-shoved the river. 30 BB pot.

In the final hand, with a 14 BB stack, Nikita limped preflop with 54s and shoved over Goofy’s continuation bet on a 249 board. Goofy showed 96o and held.

Legendary “El Patron” Wins the First Onyx Poker Series Title

The first Onyx High Roller Series trophy was awarded in the $5,200 Super Turbo, which attracted 28 entries.

After a five-way deal, Senegalese businessman Hassan Nassar, better known as “El Patron,” was declared the champion and took home $37K.

El Patron plays with his heart and loves to embrace variance, including taking blind all-ins preflop. He loves re-entering more than most players, but this time he only invested one bullet.

One of the players recalled that El Patron once offered another player money to “put in a straddle” from UTG so that he could shove all-in before the cards were even dealt. You cannot legally shove out of turn before the cards are dealt; such an action would be treated as an out-of-turn action and a rules violation.

El Patron has now earned $1.28M in live tournament prize money. This is his second Onyx trophy: at the previous series, he won the $25K Super High Roller Turbo for $236.7K.

The $25K Main Event $5M GTD Continues on Friday

The tournament attracted 255 entries, with nine players remaining.
