The weekly GGMasters sounds like a tournament from another era: it only allows one buy-in, no re-buy option, no add-ons, no multiple starting flights and no re-entries. Every Sunday evening, half a million dollars are guaranteed for a buy-in of $150.
On March 20th, this tournament turns two years old and to celebrate the anniversary, GGPoker garnishes its flagship tournament with a truly jaw-dropping guarantee. It will be increased to 10 times the usual amount. For the same $150 buy-in, players will compete for a prize pool of $5 million.
To avoid an overlay, more than 36,000 entrants will have to come together. Sure, there have been tournaments of this size before, but what makes this one special is that it is a pure freezeout tournament. There are three flights, but you can only play one of them. Thus an overlay seems more than likely. In fact, GGPoker calls the tournament GGMasters Overlay Edition.
GGMasters Overlay Edition
- Date: March 20th
- Buy-in: $150 ($138 + $12)
- Freezeout: No re-entry, no re-buy
- Guarantee: $5 million
- Start Flights: There are three starting flights – for Asia (13:00 CET), Europe (18:00 CET) and the Americas (23:00 CET) – but each player can only enter one.
- Day 2 (Final): 21 March (18:00 CET)
The tournament coincides with PokerStars’ Sunday Million Anniversary, offering a $10 million guarantee for the $215 tournament. All players should mark this weekend in their calendars: It will be one of the biggest tournament weekends of the year.
