BetOnline Poker AG is a US-friendly site that’s big on soft, beatable games and even bigger on newcomer bonuses. Click PLAY HERE to sign up and claim yours, or learn more in our BetOnline Poker review below.

Our BetOnline Poker Review

BetOnline Poker Room launched its first platform in 2001, and became one of the best real-money card rooms. This is largely due to a series of important updates since 2011, that made the site look like it does today. Since then, the software has completely changed under new suppliers - Connective Games.

They added sought-after cryptocurrency payment options, which also helped propel them to the top three ranked US poker sites. Because the Bitcoin option makes BetOnline available in America. And as we know, under federal law, gambling sites aren’t allowed to process payments from US citizens. State laws override this, which is why you can play on licenced sites in certain states. However, even with a federal law in place, playing online and online poker rooms aren’t illegal in the US.

By offering alternative ways to pay, this poker room complies with US laws as it doesn’t process funds in a traditional way. So this is a huge positive since players in the US, Europe, and beyond can access this site’s benefits. From a top welcome bonus and lucrative monthly promotions, to secure software and beatable poker games, BetOnline has it all.

Quick Preview

BetOnline Poker Promotions

The BetOnline Poker deposit bonus is packed with value. However, because of this site’s innovative payment system, there’s more to the opening offer than meets the eye.

  • 100% first deposit bonus up to $1,000.
  • 100% crypto deposit bonus up to $1,000.

The standard welcome bonus is a 100% match offer available to all new players. As long as you deposit $50+ and use the BetOnline Poker promo code “NEWBOL”. The cash is released in $5 increments each time you rake $50 and you’ll have 30 days before the bonus expires.

Based on this, we’d say the welcome bonus is pretty solid. But also because this deal entitles you to 10% rakeback for 30 days. So it’s like a two-in-one offer you can take advantage of. The rakeback will increase the more you play and end up in your account, most likely as a bonus.

Things get even better when you factor in the crypto bonus. This is only open to players hailing from the US and Canada. The first time you use Bitcoin or other crypto and use code “CRYPTO100”, you get a huge deposit match bonus. The playthrough is 14X and you can only use the credits to bet on sports. But again, it’s two rounds of value when you combine with the BetOnline Poker rakeback of 10%. It’s on par with many of the best poker sign-up bonuses you’ll find for US and Canadian players.

More Poker Promotions

If you think the welcome bonus was good, just wait until you start grinding for real. As an active customer, you’ll get access to the following BetOnline Poker bonus offers.

Cash Leaderboards

From cash games and MTTs to sit & go tournaments, there are multiple ways to win extra money if you’re a top performer. Every month there will be at least one leaderboard promotion for you to join. Prizepools typically exceed $10,000 and you’ll have to earn more points than your peers to finish in a payout position. The great thing about these leaderboard promotions is that they span all variants, which means everyone can play to their strengths.

Debt Collector

These promos are, as you’d expect, based on poker hands. If you’re dealt certain hands on certain days, you’ll win a prize. For example, if you went to a showdown with the ace of diamonds and that was a nominated hand, you’d win. Hand Collector / Debt Collector promos typically run for a month and give away cash prizes and freeroll passwords and tickets.

Bad Beat Jackpot

The one constant within the promo lobby is the BetOnline Poker bad beat jackpot. You’re only eligible for this prize if you play at designated bad beat tables. However, if you lose with four of a kind, you’ll scoop a progressive jackpot that could be worth thousands. As the loser in the hand, you’ll get 20% of the jackpot. The winner of the hand (the one that beats you), gets 15%, while others at the table get 12.5%. The rest of the money is put back into the prize pool for next time.

Loyalty Program

Becoming a VIP at this site isn’t as easy as it used to be. Prior to an update in 2020, you could earn BetOnline Poker VIP points every time you raked a dollar. These points allowed you to climb the loyalty ladder and unlock poker freerolls, bonuses, cashback and more. However, from the research we carried out, it transpires that the VIP levels scheme is no longer available.

A member of the BetOnline poker support team told us that the only way to become a VIP is by applying. Basically, you send an email to customer service and they’ll review your account activity. If you meet their standards (not disclosed), you can become a VIP. However, in terms of earning points and unlocking extra value, that, unfortunately, is no longer possible.

Poker Software and Features

  • Instant play, App for iPhone & more
  • Quick-Seat function
  • Usability: One-touch boxouts & symbols
  • Table Stats
  • Poker HUDs Use
  • Casino side games

Is the BetOnline Poker app the best we found? If we’re honest, no it’s not. When you compare it to the likes of PokerStars and Partypoker, it feels less refined and a little clunky in places. But, this doesn’t discount it as a good place to play. Even though it can’t quite match its competitors in terms of the poker card games, it’s a solid platform that’s easy to use and packed with features.

You can go through the BetOnline Poker download process and install the software on your PC, Mac, iOS or Android device. If you prefer to click and bet, there’s an instant play option that’s optimized for all systems.

One thing we did notice is that this site looks very similar to GGPoker in terms of its core structure. It doesn’t have as many bells and whistles and the aesthetics aren’t as impressive. However, things like one-touch boxouts for each game category and symbols denoting various rules (6 = six max, stars = bad beat jackpot table etc) are very similar.

From an overall perspective, we’d say that the site is simple but effective. All the necessary features are there in terms of quick-seat functionality, table stats, promo banners and clickable category tabs. But, if we’re being super critical, it would be nice to see a bit more detail and refinement in certain places.

Despite having a few shortcomings, this site does have a silver lining. When you use this site, you’ve got the option of downloading the BetOnline Poker HUD. An application such as Hold’em Indicator is compatible with this site. Therefore, you can enhance your experience and get better reads on your opponents by using a heads-up display.

TOURNAMENTS AND FREEROLLS

  • MTTs - Multi-table Tournaments
  • Freezeout and Rebuy Tournaments
  • Progressive Bounty (Knockout prizes)
  • Frequent Low Buy-in Satellites

There are MTTs aplenty at this site. BetOnline Poker freerolls run every day and buy-ins for regular tournaments start at $0.10. When you scale up to the highest heights, regular BetOnline Poker tournaments can cost as much as $525. And, as you’d expect, there are plenty of Hold’em and Omaha MTTs.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any other variants to choose from, which is slightly disappointing. Also, you’ll find that a lot of these poker tournaments have a Progressive Knockout (PKO) format. A lot of players like these events and they’re becoming the norm at most poker rooms. However, they aren’t as top-heavy in terms of payouts. This means you win money each time you eliminate a player. However, the trade-off is that you get less for going deep because some of the prize money is used for bounties.

In tandem with weekly MTTs, the BetOnline Poker schedule also features tournament festivals. King of the Ring was taking place during our review. That festival featured a $1 million total guarantee and a $150,000 main event. By international standards, that ranks somewhere in the middle of the pack in terms of prize money. However, for a US-facing online poker site, it’s highly competitive and more than most sites offer.

The final thing to note here is that the BetOnline Poker rake policy for tournaments is excellent. In fact, it’s better than a lot of other poker sites. For a $55 tournament at PokerStars, the rake is $5 ($50 + $5), while at BetOnline poker, it’s $3.50 ($51.50 + $3.50). That means tournament rake at PokerStars is higher at 10% versus 7% at BetOnline. So if you’re an MTT fan, you’ll get more bang for your buck with the latter operator.

More Poker Games

There are three variants to choose from: Hold’em, Omaha and 6+ Hold’em. These three cover the main bases. However, in our opinion, it’s a mistake to exclude games like Stud and Draw. They may not be hugely popular but some players like them. Plus, by including more variants, you create a richer and more diverse ecosystem.

Cash Games

Cash games aren’t as impressive as its tournaments but there are plenty of options for low and mid-stakes grinders. Games start $0.05/$0.10 and climb as high as $5/$10. If you’re looking for nosebleed games, you’re going to be disappointed. However, because the stakes only reach a modest level, the level of competition is fairly low. There are some strong players but, in general, the standard in low stakes games is weak.

6+ Hold’em

6+ Hold’em is available at six different levels. Games start at $0.05/$0.05 and scale up to $2/$2. The neat thing about Shortdeck tables is that they use the blind button format. This means everyone posts an ante, while the button puts in an ante and a blind.

This inflates the pot before any cards have been dealt and makes for some extremely lively games. The one downside to 6+ Hold’em is that the traffic is low. You can find a few active games during the day but it’s often the case that tables only attract players at peak times.

Sit & Go Tournaments

The sit & go lobby is actually very good. Even though this site has built its reputation on multi-table tournaments, there are plenty of single-table options. As well as standard SNGs starting at $1.50, this site offers turbos, hypers, heads-up and double-up games.

Another reason sit & go tournaments stand out is Windfalls. These are lottery-style games where the prizepool is undefined until the action starts. Three players start and one walks away with a prize. Windfalls cost between $3 and $50. Standard games have jackpots topping $60,000. Special “jackpot” editions of Windfall can payout prizes worth an impressive $150,000.

No Fast-Fold Variants

Another downside to BetOnline is that it doesn’t offer fast-fold games. It would be nice if it did but, unfortunately, it doesn’t.

COMPETITION AND TRAFFIC

The BetOnline Poker network is a standalone entity. That means it can’t compete with major networks such as WPN or GG. However, in the US, it is the third largest poker site and you’ll often find a few hundred players grinding cash games. Add to this a similar number of tournament players and the site is always buzzing with activity.

As we mentioned earlier in this review, competition can be fairly weak. Because there aren’t any true “high stakes” tables, pros tend not to use this site. There’s also a steady stream of recreational players from the US. So, if you’re a solid grinder, you should find plenty of value at the tables. Moreover, if you want to find a quiet table and play poker with friends, this is a great place to do it.

Making a Deposit and Withdrawal

Poker Payments is where this operator comes into its own. Instead of offering the conventional mix of withdrawal options, like cards and eWallets, it goes a step further. To ensure USA customers can make legal, seamless and hassle-free deposits, BetOnline Poker accepts cryptocurrencies. This means you can make payments using Bitcoin, Ethereum and more. As we’ve discussed already in this review, online poker isn’t illegal in the US. However, certain things regarding payments are. Therefore, by offering crypto options, all BetOnline Poker payouts are safe, secure and legal in the US, Australia, Europe and anywhere else in the world.

BetOnline Poker Support

You can use the FAQ to answer some commonly asked questions. This could be a little more extensive but it will set you on the right path in most instances. When it comes to more direct forms of support, we spoke to two customer service agents. Both were polite but the response times could have been slightly quicker. The first agent we spoke to was also a little vague with some of their answers. But, on the whole, we got the information we needed.

Our BetOnline Poker Rating

If you’ve made it this far, you’ll know that this card room has some positives and some negatives. A few areas for improvement, in our opinion, are aesthetics, game selection, and stakes. In reality, these are minor points and, perhaps, we’re being a little critical. However, we aim to provide fair and honest poker reviews.

With that in mind, we should also point out that this site has some fantastic features. MTT rake is lower than the industry average and there are plenty of high-value games to choose from. You can also unlock plenty of promotions with prize pools worth upwards of $10,000.

Then, of course, there’s the fact you can make crypto payments. This puts BetOnline at the cutting-edge of modern technology and it means it can operate in the US. That’s a huge positive and one of the main reasons you should give this site a try.
