Nancy Cartwright to host charity poker tournament
By Sarah Polson
Bart Simpson may not seem like the charitable type, but the woman who does his voice certainly is. Nancy Cartwright will host another charity poker tournament Dec. 15, this time benefiting Happy House.
Happy House is an organization founded by Cartwright and Rose Goss, an author and documentary producer. Its mission is to help bring about safer communities by building better families.
Cartwright will be hosting the charity poker tournament at her home to help raise money to distribute one million The Way to Happiness booklets.
"We here at Happy House use a little booklet called The Way to Happiness, which has 21 simple little chapters that make up a common-sense guide to happy living," Cartwright says in a letter on the Happy House Web site.
"What happy means in this case is a life with respect, friendship, trust, family, prosperity and all those things that we live for."
To start spreading a little happiness and the mission of the Happy House organization, Cartwright wants to mail out one million of the booklets in the San Fernando Valley area where she lives.
"It's the kind of thing that many people could sit down and read pretty quickly, and these little reminders such as to take care of yourself, the environment, your family and parents, to try to live with the truth and to do good work and basically to treat others as you would have them treat you, these little reminders are things we need."
The poker event on Dec. 15 will include a poker tournament and barbecue. The cost is $75 for the poker tournament buy-in or people can just come for the food and watch the fun for $25. Tickets for children are $5.
For tickets and information, visit HappyHouse.org or call (818) 882-7483.
