Five New Mobile Poker Apps That Don't Suck

It goes without saying that there are an almost limitless number of poker-related apps available for iOS or Android.

The problem is that the vast majority of them are garbage.

Fortunately we dug through a stack of them and found five apps that were fun, entertaining, informative or at least interesting.

Keep in mind most of these games are free-to-play and do’t compare to the full real-money experiences that you’d get from legit poker companies like Full Tilt, Party Poker or 888poker.

Instead these games are casual enough that you can play them while at a live poker table or if you’re on the bus and don’t feel like wagering actual money.

Check below for five new poker apps that are actually worth downloading for your smartphone or tablet.

PokerStars Play Lobby

PokerStars Play

PokerStars finally released a standalone social poker app last year called PokerStars Play and it’s easily one of the best free-to-play poker apps.

Unlike competitors Zynga Poker and Pokerist, PokerStars Play offers a relatively uncluttered interface that’s suburb for people just learning to play poker.

In addition to regular poker, PokerStars threw in a few extra ways for players to earn chips including a gambling scratch card game and a poker quiz.

If you want a free poker app, PokerStars Play is one heck of a great place to start.

We Like:

  • Amazing software
  • Great tactile betting interface.
  • Extras like Poker Quizzes and Scratch Cards

We Don’t Like:

  • Constantly prompts to buy play chips.

Available for:

  • iOS, Android

pineapple poker

Pineapple Poker

Now this is everything an Open-Face Chinese Poker app should be.

Pineapple Poker is a relatively new addition to the OFC market (it’s still in preview build) but even at this stage it feels more polished than competitors ABC Poker and Open Face by Gamzio.

Pineapple Poker offers a bunch of great features including OFC Pineapple (obviously) as well as support for Fantasy Land and Three-Handed Play.

It’s also the first free OFC app that’s been RNG certified, which means it should be more secure than rivals.

We Like:

  • Great graphics for an OFC App
  • OFC Pineapple!
  • RNG certified for security

We Don’t Like:

  • Not a ton of traffic yet.

Available for:

  • iOS

Governor of Poker 3

Governor of Poker 3

If you’re looking for a full arcade casino experience then Governor of Poker has been the de facto choice for a number of years.

The new version adds seven different variants of poker and Black Jack. The graphics are also massively improved and you’ll actually travel across Texas playing in different games.

It’s all pretty silly but if someone’s just getting into poker and they’ve been raised on video games then it’s not a bad place to start.

We like:

  • Arcade game play
  • Large amount of variety

We don’t like:

  • Cheesy
  • The poker part isn't spectacular

Available for:

  • iOS, Android

far cry 4 arcade poker

Far Cry 4 Arcade Poker

Imagine if you mixed Tetris with poker.

That’s basically the premise behind Far Cry 4 Arcade Poker. You try to slot falling cards into an actual hand at the bottom of the screen. You can change the suit and value by flipping it.

It's weird and kind of fun.

The game is a companion app for Far Cry 4 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One so you can actually get some perks in those games if you play it enough.

We like:

  • One of the weirdest poker variants ever.
  • Fun way to kill time
  • Teaches you poker rankings

We don’t like:

  • It’s pretty shallow

Available for:

  • iOS, Android

all in poker guide 2

PokerListings All-in Poker Guide App

You didn’t think we were getting through this article without plugging our own app did you?

PokerListings recently released an app for iPad and Android devices that aggregates all the content from our website as well as some extra material to give you a one-stop for all things poker.

We like:

  • It’s all the PokerListings content you could ever want in one spot!

We don’t like:

  • Absolutely nothing.

Available for:

  • iOS (iPad only), Android
