Annie Duke to run marathon for charity
Professional card player Annie Duke will take a break from the poker tables and run a marathon for charity on June 1.
The Ultimate Bet pro will take part in the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, with all the proceeds going to war-torn Darfur through Ante Up for Africa.
Ante Up for Africa was held for the first time last year in conjunction with the World Series of Poker. Over $700,000 was raised to help resolve the crisis in Africa. Big-name celebrities like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Ray Romano and Adam Sandler, in addition to the usual assortment of poker pros like Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu and Doyle Brunson, all took part in the charity No-Limit Hold'em tournament.
Duke is no stranger to running shoes and spends a fair amount of her spare time training. She will be looking to complete the course in four hours.
Anybody interested in raising money for Darfur at the 26.2 mile marathon can register at www.rnrmarathon.com. Runners are encouraged to indicate they would like Ante Up for Africa to appear on their respective bib.
Those who would like to support the cause but don't feel like running an epic distance can donate UltimatePoints through Ultimate Bet. Donators can choose to contribute 1,500 points for six miles, 3,000 for 13.1 miles or 5,000 for the full 26.2 miles.
It's also possible to donate directly to Ante Up for Africa at www.anteupforafrica.org.
