About William Hill Poker

William Hill has been a British betting institution for decades. However, since 2003, it’s also provided poker offerings to players in the UK and beyond. Today, the site is part of Playtech’s iPoker Network and that means you’ll get access to a solid selection of cash games and tournaments via your desktop and mobile.

Every newbie can claim the William Hill Poker signup bonus worth £100, but there’s a lot more on offer besides that. There’s plenty of added value at this site. Including a loyalty scheme that rewards you at every level and an acute focus on Hold’em. In fact, Will Hill is an ideal place for beginners to start and novices to hone their skills. Mostly since the overall skill level on this online poker site is lower than at other poker sites.

We’ll unpack all this as we take you through our William Hill Poker review.

William Hill Poker Bonus Code & Promotions

If you don’t have an account yet, you’re in for a treat. By following our William Hill Poker bonus link, you’ll receive not one, but three freebies:

  • £100 bonus on your first deposit
  • x2 Twister tournaments entries package
  • x10 bonus spins

To unlock the William Hill Poker signup bonus, you need to use our sign-up link, opt-in via your account page and deposit at least £10. Unlike other promotions, the size of your deposit doesn’t determine how much you get back. In other words, you’ll receive £100, two Twister tickets and ten free slot spins regardless of whether you deposit £10 or £1,000.

That’s fantastic if you’re a low stakes player and this focus on making offers accessible to everyone continues when you look at the wagering conditions. Firstly, anything you win from a Twister is yours to keep. Beyond that, free spin wins are subject to a 40X playthrough.

Finally, you need to earn 280 WH Points to release £5 worth of bonus cash. This rule applies until you’ve unlocked £10. After that, the remaining £90 is released in £5 increments each time you earn 350 WH Points. You earn a WH Point with every £1 rake you pay. You’ll have 45 days to hit the playthrough, which should be enough time to extract maximum value.

Other William Hill Poker Promotions

You can boost your bankroll using the site’s regular roster of promos. At the time of writing this William Hill Poker review, the following deals were available:

  • Missions – Missions are seasonal. When we wrote this, it was autumn so the mission had an autumnal vibe. When you log in, it may be different. However, the fundamentals will always be the same. That is, you opt in and complete daily missions to get spins on the bonus wheel. Prizes can be anything from a £1 tournament ticket to £1,000 in bonus cash.
  • Twister Races – Another perennial favourite, Twister Races, pit you against your peers. Each race takes place over the course of a week and will feature a set prizepool. Each time you play Twister tournaments with buy-ins of £1 or higher, you’ll earn points. For example, if you play a £1 Twister and lose, you’ll get one point. If you win the tournament, you’ll get two points. The bigger the buy-in the more points you’ll earn. At the end of the playing period, the top-rankers win a share of prizepools topping £12,000.

Players Club

When you become a Will Hill poker player, you’ll get access to an exclusive Loyalty Club. Your chance to pick up William Hill Poker points, tournament tickets, cash back and a whole lot more. There are seven tiers and you can move up the rankings by earning WH Points.

As we said earlier, £1 in rake equates to one William Hill Poker point. Alongside WH Points, you’ll earn Club Points (CPs). CPs relate to how many points you earn based on your status. At the base level, everyone earns CPs on a 1:1 basis. However, as you move up the VIP rankings, multipliers are applied to your account.

For example, at Level 5, you’ll get a 1.5X multiplier. This means you earn CPs on a 1.5:1 basis i.e. 1.5 CPs Points per £1 raked instead of 1 point per £1 raked. Therefore, the incentive is to move up the ranks and earn more points/prizes for less work.

Loyalty Scheme Levels

Moving up the ranks gives you access to more daily and monthly freerolls as well as free tournament tickets. You’ll also get seasonal offers that allow you to earn prizes each week based on the number of points you earn. Finally, you can exchange points for cash or tournament tickets. For 1,000 CPs, you’ll get £10 in cash. For 187,500 CPs, you’ll get £2,500 in cash.

Poker Software and Features

The fact you don’t have to download the William Hill Poker app is a positive, in our opinion. Although the desktop and mobile apps are fantastic, having the option to dip in and out at will is nice. In fact, it plays into the casual vibe this site has become known for.

Away from the more serious platforms like PokerStars, William Hill provides a quirky, more relaxed take on the game. Particularly when you see the cartoon-style avatars and graphics that surround the main lobby. But if we’re honest, some of the features do feel a bit retro.

We also like that William Hill has made bum hunting difficult. Again, this solidifies our idea that it’s a great poker site for novices. By giving players random table names, it’s hard to track opponents. The quick-seat function also removes an element of game selection. Basically, you input some variables and the software takes you to an available table. This stops pros hunting down weaker opponents. That, for is, is a huge positive.

Because William Hill is a part of the iPoker network it also means that the platform comes with a lot of benefits. Besides an having a large player traffic and volume, some of the popular iPoker features include the following:

  • Instant play and downloadable software
  • Fast-fold tables known as Speed Poker
  • Sit & Go tournaments
  • Automatic quick-seat function
  • Multitabling options
  • Anonymous nicknames
  • Table customization
  • four-colored deck
  • Player note-taking
  • Casino side games

William Hill Poker Mobile App

William Hill Poker app on mobile or tablet

As previously mentioned, William Hill Poker works flawlessly on any mobile device by using the browser. However, if you want to take that extra step and install a native William Hill Poker app on your phone, then it is available in both App Store and Play Store depending on which device you use. The William Hill Poker mobile app mirrors what’s available via your desktop but with a few added extras. For example, you can enable push notifications and get the inside scoop on new promos, MTTs, and more without logging into the site. Newbies also get an interactive guided tour of the app.

The one feature that really comes into its own on the Will Hill Poker app is the quick-seat function. Because there isn’t space to show you endless lists of tables, the developers have made this an easy way for you to set the variables you want and jump straight into your top games.

Click on ‘PLAY HERE’ on this page to get there faster and claim a welcome bonus.

Tournaments and Freerolls

  • MTTs - Multi-table Tournaments
  • Freezeout (one chance) and Rebuy Tournaments
  • Progressive Bounty (Knockout prizes)
  • Satellites (qualify through another lower-buy-in tournament)

If you’re a fan of Hold’em, this is the place to play tournaments. Now, the counter is that other variants aren’t as well represented. For example, you won’t find any Stud, Draw, Mixed Game tournaments. There are some Pot Limit Omaha showdowns, including full ring, six-max, and hi-lo variants. However, the list of options isn’t as extensive as it is for Hold’em.

Alongside daily and weekly freerolls, MTTs are available from £0.20. All the usual suspects are there in terms of size and style. This means you can play full-ring, six-max, and heads-up MTTs. What’s more, there are standard speed, turbos, hyper turbos, freezeouts, and rebuys.

One area where William Hill Poker tournaments excel is exotic options. As well as traditional Hold’em, you can play 6+ Hold’em tournaments. For those that don’t know, this is a short-deck variant where all cards lower than a six have been removed from play.

This dynamic mixes up the hand rankings and generates more action. At Will Hill Poker, you can play No Limit, Pot Limit, Fixed Limit 6+ Hold’em MTTs. Add to this progressive knockout tournaments where you earn bounties for eliminating opponents, and there’s plenty of potential value on the weekly roster.

More Poker Games

There’s naturally more focus on the most popular poker variants - Texas Hold'em and Pot-Limit Omaha. So you’ll find cash games and tournaments at no-limit, fixed-limit and pot-limit structures. However, you can also find a few more variants in their lobby.

Cash Games

Alongside tournaments, cash games form the basis of William Hill Poker Online. As it is with MTTs, Hold’em is the dominant cash game variant and you won’t find anything in the way of Stud, Draw, or Mixed Games. There are more PLO cash games than tournaments. Limits range from £0.01/£0.02 to £5/£10 PLO and we found games running all the way up to the highest stakes.

With Hold’em, the same dynamics were in place. Games were running all the way up to £5/£10 and there were full-ring and six-max options available. What’s nice about these cash games is that you can buy-in for between 20 and 100 big blinds. Additionally, there are tables where buy-ins are capped at 50 blinds, if you prefer a more push/fold style of poker. Finally, there are beginner tables only open to newbies for a short period of time so the play is easy.

6+ Holdem

Despite being an emerging variant, 6+ Hold’em is popular at William Hill, particularly at the lower stakes. Games run up to £200 NL but the majority of players were grinding away at the £4 NL tables. This makes it an ideal site to learn the basics without blowing your bankroll. Given that 6+ Hold’em is popular with high rollers, it’s likely to gain a lot more traction in the coming years. Low stakes tables are a great way to hone our skills before moving up.

Sit’N Go Tournaments

Sit and Go tournaments are available from £0.10 and you’ve got the option to play full-ring, six-max, and heads-up. Unfortunately, the only variant you can play is Hold’em. However, the mix of regular, turbo, and hyper turbo games means there’s plenty of variety.

Twister Sit & Gos

If regular sit and go tournaments don’t float your boat, Twisters will. These lottery-style games are three-handed affairs with blinds that increase at a rapid rate. The real selling point to Twisters is that you can win up to 1,000X the buy-in. Each prizepool is random and only determined once everyone has registered.

At the lowest level, you can pay £1 to enter and win up to £1,000. At the top, £100 Twisters can payout prizes worth £100,000. Finally, just to separate Twisters from other similar tournaments, there are themed games. The most prominent are Age of the Gods Twisters. These tables are linked to the popular Age of the Gods slot game, which means you’ve got the chance to win progressive jackpots worth more than £100,000 when you buy in for just £1.

Speed Poker

Speed Poker, a fast-fold cash game variant, for William Hill Texas Holdem Poker or Omaha, allows you to play more hands per hour. Since you can insta-fold your hand and immediately be whisked to a new table with a new hand. Meaning you don’t waste time folding hands and waiting for others to battle without you.

This variant is usually available at Will Hill. However, at the time of writing, the “Speed” tables weren’t available for UK players, possibly due to current regulatory issues. We think they may be available in the future.

Competition and Traffic

William Hill is part of Playtech’s iPoker network so it attracts an average of 1,650 players per day, with around 4,500 at peak hours. Of that figure, around 33% are active in cash games. Although there are always exceptions to the rule, the overall standard of play at this site is fairly low. There are beginner tables and the games only go up to £5/£10.

At other sites, like partypoker and PokerStars, games go up to £100/£200. This tells us that the majority of players at Will Hill are novices or casuals. We also know that William Hill has a world-class sportsbook and customers cross over to play poker. Therefore, it’s an ideal site if you’re a novice or someone looking for slightly softer games.

Deposits and Withdrawals

All payments are protected by SSL encryption technology. What’s more, as a licensed operator in the UK, William Hill is required to store all player funds in secure, segregated bank accounts.

Deposits are processed instantly, while withdrawals will typically take between four hours and three days. It’s worth noting that very few poker sites have processing times that can match William Hill. Four hours is extremely fast and a real selling point if you want your winnings in a hurry.

Deposits and withdrawals start at £5 when you use the following methods:

William Hill Support

The William Hill support team is on hand 24/7. The FAQ covers all the basics, including downloads, payments, game limits and bonuses. If you can’t find answers to your questions, you can contact a member of the team via the following methods:

Our William Hill Rating

William Hill Poker is a fantastic place to play if you’re a novice or mid-stakes player with a penchant for Hold'em. Although there’s a small selection of PLO games, the site excels when it comes to all forms of Hold’em. For the traditionalists, there are plenty of cash games and tournaments. And if you want something a little different, Progressive KO MTTs and Twisters are perfect.

Finally, there’s 6+ Hold’em. This variant has taken the industry by storm in recent years and Will Hill has some of the best low stakes 6+ Hold’em games online. When you combine these strengths with a host of promotions and freerolls, this site has everything you need to build up your bankroll.
