The Triton Poker Series London came to a glittering conclusion on August 10 after Phil Ivey and Jason Koon picked up the last two tournament titles.
Jason Koon was first onto the winner’s rostrum. The American pro has found a home on the Triton Poker Series, particularly in short deck events, which is why virtually no one was surprised when he picked up his ninth title in the discipline.
As we reported on Wednesday, Koon has already tasted victory at Triton London. He took down Event #6, a $63,600 No Limit Hold’em 7-Handed showdown, for $1.5 million. That win spurred him onto a 23rd place finish in the Luxon Invitational ($342,000 payout) and a fourth-place finish in Event #13 ($582,000 payout).
Jason Koon Uses His One Time to Make it Nine
However, Koon saved one of his best performances of the series until last. Despite the total number of entries being just 46, winning was far from easy in a $63,000 tournament filled with short deck specialists. In fact, Koon needed to hit a one-outer on the river to stay alive during Thursday night’s finale.
But, like a true pro, he didn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Speaking after his win, Koon said he’d already “accepted his fate” in the hand against Tan Xuan. Both players had sets, Xuan a set of kings and Koon a set of nines. It was virtually curtains for Koon with all his chips in the middle. Fortunately for Koon, a nine on the river catapulted him back into contention.
Event #16: $60,000 Short Deck Main Event Result
Jason Koon – $828,000
Kiat Lee – $598,000
Lun Loon – $386,800
Tan Xuan – $292,500
Chris Brewer – $226,300
Wai Kin Yong – $176,700
Masashi Oya – $140,700
Daniel Dvoress – $111,000
That pot swung the match with four players left and, within a short space of time, Koon had dispatched with Xuan, Lun Loon and, finally, Wai Kiat Lee. With that, the Triton ambassador picked up his second win of the series and $828,000. More impressively, Jason Koon now has nine wins on the Triton Poker Series, five more than his closest rival, Mikita Badziakouski.
Phil Ivey Reaffirms His GOAT Status with Second Triton Title
Someone else who picked up two titles in London was none other than Phil Ivey. The GOAT banked his 11th $1 million live win by taking down Event #12 (a $62,400 NLH turbo) early in the series. That win was preceded by two near misses in events #3 and #6, putting Ivey’s series winnings at $1.8 million.
Clearly not wanting to end his trip on anything less than a round number, Phil Ivey dug deep in the $26,500 short deck ante only event. With 17 of the world’s best to contend with, Ivey had to mix it up. He switched from aggressive to passive seamlessly during the August 10 showdown. Eventually, he won a three-way all-in and never looked back.
Event #17: $25,000 Short Deck Ante Only Turbo Result
Phil Ivey – $280,500
Danny Tang – $193,800
Stephen Chidwick – $123,800
Daniel Dvoress – $94,900
Thai Ha – $74,200
Anson Ewe – $57,800
Despite pressure from Stephen Chidwick, Daniel Dvoress, and Danny Tang, Ivey remained steadfast once he’d secured the chip lead. He closed the show, and the Triton Poker Series London, by beating Tang heads. His second win of the series means Ivey will fly back to America with more than $2 million in prize money and, once again, the poker community’s unwavering admiration.

WPT World Championship History
Let’s rewind a bit to the awe-inspiring debut of this remarkable event at the end of last year. History was made, and records were shattered as the event unfolded to be a true spectacle. A guaranteed prize pool of $15,000,000 left everyone awe-struck, and as the registration period was settled, nearly 3,000 participants had etched their names in the annals of the poker history of the WPT, and doubled the prize pool! The victor, the Canadian poker player Eliot Hudon, walked away with over $4 million in winnings, etching his name into the halls of poker legends as he had beaten British poker pro Benny Glaser in a Heads-Up match.
Until that moment, Eliot Hudon had some pretty good stores to his name, but with $300,000 in total live career earnings at the poker tables, he took the moment that would change his life for good. The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is by a mile the greatest live poker event throughout the winter period, let alone from the whole year!
Who Will Be Sent to Las Vegas?
Once upon a time, PokerListings looked in their pockets and by coincidence they grabbed a golden ticket from it. When they took a better look, it was a ticket for the WPT World Championship at the Wynn Las Vegas, starting on the 12th of December 2023. It did not take long before they realised they could not keep it in their own hands, so they decided to reward a winner of a newly created super leaderboard competition called the PokerListings Vegas Series, having a total of eight tournaments, being held bi-weekly starting from August 17, on the poker client of WPT Global. Not only will the winner be rewarded with a remarkable package worth $12,400- the other 26 finalists will divide another $3,175 worth of tickets and merchandise among them.

We’ve had an action-filled summer in terms of online poker this year, and there’s still more to go. With a lot of golden nuggets to choose from in terms of tournaments to play and series to participate in, there is no doubt that partypoker has thrown something in the hat to compete for the summer’s sweetest poker candy. May we present The McLaren Turbo Series!
In collaboration with one of the most respected formula car manufacturers in the world, partypoker will run this action filled-to-the-top series between the 13th-28th of August. Considering the series will have a $1M guaranteed prize pool, the McLaren Turbo Series will indeed be one of the poker highlights of the year.
Daily Sprints, Deepstacks and More!
As previously hinted, the tournament schedule is vast and there’s surely something that could appeal to all players, from low- to high stakes. For instance, there will be a daily sprint PKO with a turbo structure. The final phase of the tournament will start 22:05 CEST each day, with six qualifying phases being held in advance during the day. The buy-in for the daily sprints vary from day to day, everything between $2.2 and $22.
On all the three Sundays during the series time span, the Sunday Party ($100K GTD) as well as the Sunday Carnival ($30K GTD) will be held, starting at 20:05. The difference between the tournaments of course is the buy-in; $109 for the Sunday Party and $2 for the Sunday Carnival. Except for this they share a lot of similarities: they’re both 7-max PKO’s with turbo structure.
Then there’s also an abundance of other side tournaments to choose from each day. Deepstacks, more PKO’s, battle PKO’s, ultra PKO’s and more will all run during the series.
But of course, you can’t have only sides and no main course. Obviously, there’s a prestigious Main Event as well!
The McLaren Turbo Series Main Event
Oh boy, did we save the best part for last. The McLaren Turbo Series Main Event has quite an interesting arrangement. The $100K GTD PKO tournament has its day 2 Monday 28th of August, I.e., the last day of the of the series. Prior to this final day, there are no less than 39 different day 1 stages. On Sundays, three stages will be played each day, and two stages a day Monday through Saturday. The day 1 stages have a $33 buy-in and top 15 % will qualify for day 2.
Alongside the Main Event, the Mini Main Event will run in collateral fashion. Same structure and same arrangement as its bigger brother, but a $5.5 buy-in.
Considering the amount of interesting and unique tournaments that will be held during the McLaren Turbo Series 2023, the best way to get a good overview of the full schedule is to visit the tournament lobby in the partypoker client. That being said, there’s no doubt that there is something for everyone, considering all the different buy-ins as well as the supply of tournaments available.
The first card deal of the McLaren Turbo Series 2023 is mere days away, folks! Good luck to everyone who’s planning to participate in what will surely be one of, if not the most dynamic online poker series of August. Remember to have lots of fun at the tables!
Here you can find more info about the McLaren Turbo Series.
Autumn 2023 just became a lot more exciting for poker players! During September, PokerStars Galactic Series will return and this time it’s bigger and better than ever before. With an overall €10M guarantee during the festival, there’s no doubt that the series will attract the vast majority of the Southern Europe PokerStars players.
What’s to Expect?
The festival will run between the 3rd-24th of September this year and will consist of some classic PokerStars tournaments as well as some exclusive events for the series. The legendary Sunday Million kicks off the series Sunday 3rd with its €1M guarantee, and it’s not an uneducated guess that the PokerStars flagship tournament will become one of its biggest editions of 2023 during the Galactic Series.
Another date to mark in the poker calendar is the 10th of September, when the Spicy 50 will see its place in the PokerStars lobby. Except for the €250 000 guarantee, there’s also a confirmed €50 000 first place payout to the tournament winner.
But of course, there’s also the Galactic Series Main Event! With a whopping €400 000 guarantee, the Main Event will surely be an attractive tournament for the players hunting for the prestigious title. The Galactic Series Main Event Day 1 will be played September 17th.
These tournaments and many, many more is what will make the Galactic Series one of the, if not the biggest, highlight of the poker year for the Southern Europe PokerStars players. Later this month (august 2023) the full schedule will be released, and for sure it will be a delicious smorgasbord for all the players, from low to high stakes. Be sure to stay updated in order to not miss the full schedule release!
Qualification and Satellites
Even though it’s a good month until the series kicks off, players will have the opportunity to qualify in reasonable time. The Galactic Series Sales is somewhat of a “qualification series” prior to the main series and will be held between August 27th and September 2nd. It will allow players to qualify for the Galactic Series events for as little as 10 mere cents. Players would be very wise to be on the look-out for these qualification tournaments in the South European PokerStars client; with stages starting from such relatively small buy-ins, there is for sure a good opportunity to turn a considerable profit if one would be successful in receiving a seat to, for example, the Main Event.
Yes, PokerStars has indeed provided us players with another interesting tournament series again. Since the site launched way back in 2001, PokerStars has only improved, and the Galactic Series has been an appreciated element in the online poker calendar for a couple of years now. It says something about the series’ popularity that it last year also made its debut on the PokerStars India client, which saw Aditya Singh taking the Main Event title. For this feat he received around €16 000, which, even though a quite so respectable amount, will be significantly larger during the 2023 Galactic Series for the Southern European players.
Get ready! A month goes by fast, and the Galactic Series Sales kicks off with the qualifications in less than three weeks. Good luck at the tables and remember to have fun!
The 2023 Triton Poker Series London has done what we expected it to do and produced some world-class tournament action, big-money payouts, and epic results. Indeed, with the likes of Phil Ivey winning yet another live poker title and over $1 million, it’s been a great series from Triton.
The high roller series kicked off on July 27 with a live version of GGPoker’s Million$. That event cost $26,500 to enter and record-breaking 162 players were happy to pay for a shot at the title. As is always the case with Triton Poker events, the game’s elite were out in force at JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London.
Coming out on top after a hard-fought day of poker was Greenwood. Although many of you who follow the tournament circuit might expect to see the name Sam follow Greenwood, it was actually his twin brother Lucas (aka Luc) who got the job done on this occasion.
The Canadian pro hasn’t been as active in poker as he previously was due to the passing of his father in 2020. However, he’s not lost any of the skills that have earned him over $5.7 million in prize money.
Luc Greenwood joined his brother Sam on Triton Poker’s wall of fame after beating Manuel Zapf heads-up. The victory was worth $897,000 and gave Greenwood enough momentum in the series to kick on and win another $112,000 after finishing 10th in Event #5.
Fedor Holz Hangs on to Win First Triton Title Since 2017
Next to take home a Triton title was Germany’s Fedor Holz. The German phenom won his first Triton Poker title back in 2017 but he’s been virtually MIA on the tour ever since.
However, he’s never stopped playing poker. Holz returned to winning ways on the Triton tour late last week after topping a field of 120 entries in Event #2. A heads-up deal with Chris Brewer sealed the deal for Holz and earned him $609,853.
Someone else who returned to winning ways in Event #3 was Espen Jorstad. The 2022 WSOP Main Event winner has continued to notch up cashes on the live circuit, but this is his first win since becoming world champion.
Topping a field of 90 entrants in a $22,400 mystery bounty event and winning $639,000 is great, but to do it by beating Phil Ivey heads-up is even better. Jorstad followed up his win in Event #2 by finishing 3rd in Event #7 for $2.7 million.
Other notable results from the Triton Poker Series London 2023 include:
Event #10: $25,000 Pot Limit Omaha – Seth Gottlieb – $511,000 (77 entries)
Bryn Kenney Proves He’s the Tournament King
Event #9 is missing from the list above for one very good reason: the winner banked the biggest payout of the series. The $250,000 buy-in Luxon Invitational was designed to generate a massive prizepool by bringing together poker’s finest and the amateur world’s richest.
The result certainly lived up to the hype. A total of 118 entries pushed the prizepool to $29.5 million. Almost all of poker’s elite were in the mix, including 2003 WSOP Main Event champion Chris Moneymaker who finished third.
In the end though, it was tournament maestro Bryn Kenney who claimed yet another title. The American leads the all-time money list and extended his lead even further by taking down the Triton Poker Series Luxon Invitational for $6.8 million.
Kenney’s performance was certainly impressive, but two more names have stolen at least some of the spotlight in recent days. Timothy Adams added another $4.1 million to his bankroll after winning the $125,000 Triton Poker Series London main event.
The Canadian had to come through the biggest ever Triton main event field to secure the win. Not only that, he had to beat a murder’ row of talent that included Stephen Chidwick, Isaac Haxton, and Daniel Cates.
Phil Ivey Remains Poker’s GOAT
Also earning a spot on the Triton Poker wall of fame and proving, once again, why he’s one of poker’s best was Phil Ivey. After coming close in Event #3, the consensus GOAT blasted his way through a field of 61 entries in the $60,000 turbo event.
$1 million might not mean as much to Phil Ivey as it does to some poker players, but it marks his 11th seven-figure tournament score. Add to this the fact it’s Ivey’s fourth Triton title and it’s hard to deny he’s among the greatest to ever play poker.
With a few more tournaments left to play, including the short deck main event, Ivey and everyone else will have another chance to win a Triton title. We’ll bring you the final results as they come in, so come back to PokerListings for more big winners at the Triton Poker Series London.
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has announced its upcoming events for the 2023-24 season, including the WSOP Europe and the WSOP Circuit (WSOP-C) international stops. WSOP Europe will take place at King’s Resort in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, from October 25 to November 15, with the Main Event scheduled for November 10. King’s Resort owner, Leon Tsoukernik, expressed excitement about hosting the prestigious tournament series in Europe, promising higher guaranteed prize pools and new exciting events for players. The WSOP-C began its 2023-24 international run in London on July 27 and features eight confirmed stops to date, with more to be announced soon. Winners from these live or online circuit events will earn a spot in the invitation-only “Tournament of Champions” event at the 2024 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, as well as the highly coveted WSOP gold ring.
You could already see it coming of course, with the Main Event of this year’s World Series of Poker Main Event going to a whole different level with more than 10,000 entries. People who wandered around in the Horseshoe and Paris rooms during the WSOP could enjoy the biggest cash game action in an exclusive King’s Room. When being in the room, you could see immediately similarities with the King’s Resort in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. With the WSOP Europe of 2022 already being organized in the Poker Temple of Europe, it was easy math to calculate another event in 2023.
WSOP Europe 2022 Main Event Winner Omar Eljach
WSOP Europe ‘23 – Anticipating Last Year’s Success
In 2022, the WSOP Europe Main Event set a record with 763 participants and a €7,248,500 prize pool. This year’s WSOP Europe features 15 bracelet events, with the Main Event having a €10,000 buy-in and a €5M GTD (guaranteed) prize pool.
WSOP Executive Director and Senior Vice President Ty Stewart expressed confidence that WSOP Europe will break its Main Event record once again this year, riding the momentum of the buzz surrounding poker after the recent Main Event in Las Vegas.

The Banco Casino Masters was held once again at the Banco Casino in Bratislava. Around 1,200 players would compete in the Main Event for the famous title and the biggest chunk of the prize pool. It was eventually Austrian Ed Mondo who would walk away with all the bragging rights, securing a massive payout of €40,660, leaving plenty of fellow Austrians behind at the final table.
After finished 4th during the Polish Poker Days earlier this year in Bratislava, he more than doubled his live time results at the tournament tables with this result. August will be a fully-packed month with plenty of Series coming to the capital city of Slovakia. Poker-SM Live is about to kick off, where many Swedes are going to compete for the honorable title of ‘Swedish Champion in Poker’. There will be many events available for everyone to enjoy, including several mixed games.
With the Main Event having a guaranteed prize pool of 250,000, the expectations of receiving many entries in the event were set high, unfortunately they eventually ended up with 37,500 in overlay, which made this event even more valuable for players all across Europe. A total of 1197 entries were counted at the end of the registration period, of which 120 players eventually would find a cash prize. Ed Mondo, a poker player often to be seen at the poker tables in Bratislava, resides in Austria, and dominated the Main Event from beginning to end, securing a massive payout.
Four out of the last Final Nine had the Austrian nationality, and all were competing for the massive first prize which was about double the amount which was set for the second-place finisher. The Banco Masters Main Event is a true asset to the Slovakian poker community and with this event its 45th edition. Below you can find the final results of the Main Event:

Spain has shown down a hand that has baffled the poker community worldwide, as they now classify poker players as athletes for taxation reasons. The significant shift in taxation significantly impacts the poker community, especially the high roller circuit, which has seen Triton and European Poker Tour events frequent Casino Barcelona.
With the upcoming PokerStars EPT Barcelona coming up, questions are being posed as to what the actual tax rates are for poker players, what happens if you win, and how that money gets taxed.
The Tax Law Change
This law change occurred after the Spanish Ministry of Finance decided to put poker players in the same bracket as professional athletes. This means that all poker players, regardless of whether they are recreational players, aspiring semi-pros, or genuine full-time pros, will be subject to taxation.
This has also led to the Spanish government classifying poker as a sport and not as a game of skill. This could also lead to future developments around the poker industry in Spain and beyond, but it has yet to be seen whether these movements will be positive or negative.
The change is a huge shift from the previous tax code, which allowed players to gain prizes without any implications for not reporting them. Now, the Ministry of Finance has spotted this as a deficiency in the tax code and has also looked into a modification to include smaller premiums in the overall tax calculation.
What Are the Tax Rates?
The tax changes extend to all professional poker, chess, billiards, and card players within the Spanish border. The rule extends to players who live outside of Spain but compete in the game within the country.
The tax rate goes from 19% to 24% for players who reside within the European Economic Area (EEA) and 24% for players who live outside of the EEA.
What Happens Next to Poker Players?
The tax change is sure to be a huge blow to poker players. To view them as sportspeople and their earnings as akin to a footballer earning a salary is outright unfair. If a player has a downswing during EPT Barcelona but recoups some losses with a big final table finish, they will get taxed on an overall losing trip. This kind of situation will deter a lot of high and mid-stakes grinders who can find elsewhere to play.
A loss of poker players in Spain would be incredibly detrimental to the country’s already thriving poker scene. The new tax law could push players to shift to other tournaments, even with EPT Barcelona coming up. EPT Barcelona has routinely been one of the most popular events on the calendar, with some of the biggest poker tournaments in Europe on the schedule and held in one of the best venues in Casino Barcelona, just a stone’s throw from the city’s famous beach.
What Is Next for Spanish Live Poker?
The new tax shift in Spain represents a significant moment in their poker industry but also has ripple effects across Europe. The government might deem this as a necessary move to maintain fair taxation, but a lot of experts view this a net negative on the poker community. As EPT Barcelona rolls around the corner, it is going to be particularly interesting to see how this tax change impacts the number of players who travel to the series and whether this will start an overall shift in the poker industry across Spain.
UPDATE: Official comments from Pokerstars:
There will be no changes to the format and structure to this years’ EPT Barcelona.
After reviewing the news about taxation in Spain, Casino Barcelona have confirmed that no tax will be deducted from payouts at EPT Barcelona.
As laws vary depending on the jurisdiction, it is the responsibility of the individual player to adhere to the laws of their respective region.
Therefore, we suggest that players inquire with their local tax authority regarding their responsibility of claiming winnings.

Playground Poker has been the site of several eye-watering bad beat jackpots over the past few years but the biggest ever was just awarded with over $2.5 million being handed out to poker players at the iconic Canadian poker club.
No one likes a bad beat at the live poker tables – getting your money in with quads only to be crushed by bigger quads or a straight flush is one of the worst feelings in poker but sometimes it can actually be a good thing.
Many poker rooms have bad beat jackpots running that keep increasing over time as more and more hands are played until a truly brutal beat happens at the cash tables. When that happens, it’s often not such a painful experience for losing player since it triggers a rain of cash that often extends to the entire poker room.
Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, QC, close to Montreal, is famous for its bad beat jackpots, and on Aug 2nd, 2023, the club handed out another record jackpot. After setting the previous record last year, Playground Poker handed out more than $2.5 million ($CDN) this week after a brutal hand where quads were crushed by a straight flush.
The most recent jackpot came in the early evening of Aug 2, 2023 and the eventual loser of the hand flopped quad tens. That was the nuts on the flop, but there were two gapped diamonds on the board as well for straight flush outs.
The seven of diamonds on the turn brought in the gut shot straight flush to the winner’s nine-six of diamonds crushing the flopped nuts. While that would normally be a horrible feeling of losing a big pot, it’s likely the players involved knew that the bad beat jackpot was sitting at truly mind-blowing numbers.
With quad tens as a qualifying hand, there was really no way for the flopped quads to lose as, even if a straight flush came, it would trigger the bad beat which generally gives the biggest share of the jackpot to the losing player in the hand. When it was triggered this week, the jackpot was sitting at $2,590,185 ($CDN) which comes out at about $1.94 million in American dollars.
The two players involved in the hand will take the most money from the record jackpot, but they weren’t the only ones in on the record haul. As is typical with bad beat jackpots, there was also a share handed out to the other players at the table where the hand happened, and in the case of Playground Poker, there is almost always a room share as well so that every player in action at a cash table when the jackpot goes gets a piece of the action. There were no details at press time about how this jackpot was divided up.
Club Beats its Own Record
Playground Poker Club seems to be the home of record bad beat jackpots. It was the same poker room that set the previous record in June of 2022 with a jackpot of $2.2 million ($1.64 million USD). Coincidentally, that hand was also a case of quad tens beaten by a straight flush, but it wasn’t the only time the Canadian poker room set the record – back in 2017 it set the bad beat jackpot record at $1.375 million when quad queens were crushed by the Royal.
The Canadian club isn’t the only place to hand out bad beat jackpots bigger than $1 million. The biggest ever jackpot on US soil happened almost a year ago at Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino when $1.2 million was handed out after quad aces were cracked by a royal flush in spades.
Online poker continues to evolve and grow, not just in players but also in terms of cash prizes. The money has never been higher, and the stakes continue to grow. This has led to a lot of bad actors taking advantage on a lot of sites in high EV spots.
The spotlight was shone on Ghosting through the Bryn Kenney cheating scandal, where he and his stable would actively Ghost other members through software like Teamviewer and more in order to gain the most edge in deep tournament spots. The biggest online poker operators have stayed completely silent in regards to making active and sweeping changes, and this extends beyond Ghosting and into other cheating methods like collusion, RTA (Real-Time Assistance) and more. This has all changed with a recent announcement from ACR Poker.
Virtual Machines 86’d on the ACR Poker Menu
ACR Poker became the first online poker operator to come out with a sweeping statement against the use of virtual machines. This is a move that was triggered by the discovery of a collection of players who were using these tools in games on the site to gain a higher edge in big EV spots. While some poker players have claimed to use tools like Virtual Machines and Teamviewer for training reasons, the risk of malpractice has led ACR to take measured action and 86 them entirely.
The ban extends past virtual machines – if you pay attention to ACR Poker’s new T&Cs, they also ban the use of real-time screen-sharing tools and any device that could attempt to get past the platform’s security measures. Players who are found to breach this will be issued one warning, and then subsequent actions could lead to suspensions, bans and funds withheld.
A PR Move or Commitment to Player Security?
ACR Poker has been going through a lot of change recently, introducing a new client and rebranding. They continued to hold the Venom, which is quickly becoming the biggest online poker tournament with each passing year. They are a poker site with momentum, as PokerStars lags behind and GGPoker has seemingly invested in the live poker felt as much as the online one recently.
The platform is using AI to detect any form of malpractice, and a team of gaming integrity specialists is working around the clock. – it’s safe to say that ACR CEO Phil Nagy is taking some kind of measures to improve player security on ACR; the real question is whether these are solid movements or a flavor of the month to gain popularity in a competitive online poker market.
An investigation conducted recently banned eight player accounts for collusion, with an additional 25 accounts banned that were linked to the primary offenders. ACR reallocated a confiscated amount of $184,000 and corrected the tournament outcomes to ensure fairness.
Moneymaker Gives Us His 2 Cents
ACR Team Pro Chris Moneymaker put his thoughts in: “I’m sad that we have to engage in this high-tech game of Whack a Mole, but it’s important for us to try to stay ahead of the bad guys. I’ve been playing online poker for more than 20 years now, and just as the cheaters get more sophisticated, so have the poker rooms. ACR invests heavily in technology and people to deliver as fair a game as any of the major sites.”
For any more information on these updates, you should read the updated T&Cs on ACR Poker’s website and also get in touch with their security team at acrpoker.eu
If you are a regular on the famous Red Spade online site, you will have noticed a new introduction over the past few months called Power Path. Whether you saw the section in the client or happened to get the tickets in your Stars Chest, you might be curious to see how the new innovation is fairing.
It is absolutely fair to call this new PokerStars creation a satellite sensation, giving away 349 Silver Passes and 10 Gold Passes so far, which shows fervor and excitement from players to play Power Path but also continues PokerStars’ tradition of creating incredible stories. Ever since Chris Moneymaker qualified through a PokerStars satellite to win $2.5 million at the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event, PokerStars has become synonymous with making poker dreams a reality.
What is Happening With Power Path This August?
August is going to be a jam-packed poker month, with plenty of opportunities for players to use the Power Path and get into the biggest online and live poker tournaments around. What’s the marquee event? It is, of course, the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), which is the pinnacle of online poker every year.
Thanks to the PokerStars Power Path introduction, players can actually win a special WCOOP ticket bundle. Players can win three bundles, which include a chance at getting a seat in the mammoth $10,300 WCOOP Main Event. Here’s a breakdown of the bundles:
WCOOP Ticket Bundle 1 (Gold): This includes tickets going from $0.55 to a huge $5,200.
WCOOP Ticket Bundle 2 (Silver): A solid selection of tickets from $22 to $530.
WCOOP Main Events Ticket Bundle (Silver): Focuses on the Main Event with tickets priced at $22, $109, and $1,050.
That’s not all! Before we buckle up our bankrolls for WCOOP, we have the mind-boggling Midstakes Madness, where players can enter cheap tournaments and have the chance of winning a grand sum. Bronze Pass holders can use their Power Path for the $109 Main Event, while Silver Pass holders have a selection of over 45 events to choose from.
EPT Barcelona is Just Around the Corner!
EPT Barcelona has always been a fan favorite on the European Poker Tour schedule, and now it is rolling around quickly. Gold Pass holders have some incredible options to pick from for this event, which goes beyond the poker felt. You can choose various poker events to enter as well as the exclusive side activities that run for satellite winners, something PokerStars do exceptionally well.
Silver Pass holders are not left out either; you can redeem these for the famous Estrellas Barcelona Main Event, which always gets a huge turnout and a boosted prize pool to match. Last year, Rick van Bruggen battled for over four days and through more than 6,000 entrants to turn his €1,100 buy-in into a €600,000 grand prize. Thanks to Power Path, this year it could be you!
Even More PokerStars Live Events To Power Path to Come!
The Power Path goes beyond the major live PokerStars events, as it provides a gateway into the lesser-known series too. This month, players can aim to qualify for events like UKIPT Brighton, Eureka Hamburg, LAPT Pananama, and so many more, all through a Silver Pass. I would recommend checking the PokerStars client to see which events are eligible and which poker tournaments you can use a Power Path for.
One of Europe’s most popular stops on every poker player’s agenda is the European Poker Tour in Barcelona, where from August 21st until September 3rd, it will conclude in perhaps another record-breaking event. An action-packed schedule is set for two weeks and promises to crown many winners with one of their iconic trophies. Casino Barcelona, as always the hotspot when it comes to poker in Spain, will host both the Estrellas Poker Tour (ESPT), and the European Poker Tour (EPT), including the Main Event of respectively €1,100 and €10,300 buy-ins, alongside high roller events such as the €100,000 buy-in event. PokerStars, which still belongs to the world’s top online- and live poker operators, came with an offer to its players that just cannot be refused, namely Power Path. An exclusive way of getting yourself to a glorious stop in poker history!
When thinking about Barcelona being a poker player, of course, you would straight away think about the lovely Casino Barcelona and the EPT. But it’s not all about poker throughout this event, resulting in many great hospitality events being put on the schedule. The welcome drinks are scheduled for the 22nd of August, a catamaran trip is planned for August 23rd, and city bus tours running daily, there is plenty of looking forward to outside the tables. Especially when thinking about the player’s party on August 27th at the VDLC beach club.
Last year, during the Main Event of the EPT Barcelona with a buy-in of €5,300 we saw the Italian Giuliano Bendinelli besting a record-break field of close to 1,700 entries, good for a whopping €1,491,133 first prize! Other notable results were the Super High Roller win in the €100,000 event of Mikita Bodyakovsky for almost €2,000,000, and the Estrellas Main Event win of Dutchman Rick van Bruggen for €600,000! The whole series had a total of 61 events, resulting in many spade trophies which were handed out all throughout.

Of course, there are also the standard qualifier tournaments available, but let’s focus here on the Power Path. The Golden Pass will give you the following options:

During the Live edition of the EPT Barcelona, there will also be an online version available for all you poker players who are not able to participate in the live circuit at the end of August. From August 27th until September 3rd, a total of 25 online tournaments will be played out to a winner with buy-ins varying from just $1.10 up to $55. PokerStars has got a big surprise for everyone, as they are adding a stunning €70,000 in added value throughout the series. Included in this added value are that the winners of not one, but two Main Events (both on September 3rd), will receive a Golden Pass for the next EPT event, held in Cyprus. All other Main Event finalists will receive a WCOOP-ticket worth $1,050.
For players in Southern Europe, this series won’t be available. Instead, the Galactic Series will run, usually this online poker series will be between September 3rd and 24th, but PokerStars has added the Galactic Series Sales as addition so that online poker players from Southern Europe can also enjoy playing online events during the live version of the EPT.
Notable information about the Galactic Series:

With over $ 888,888 in guaranteed prize pools and a Main Event with $ 200,000 guaranteed, there was so much to look forward to. The Festival Online, Powered by 888poker and PokerListings, turned out to be a Brazilian Samba event, as Brazil captured a whopping 13 victories during this Series. Other countries that collected quite some victories were Great Britain and Romania. Overall, the events had been visited by so many different nationalities, which is of course the magic of online poker. The Main Event final table eventually got streamed live on the official Twitch channel of 888poker, and with this recap of the final table, we will provide you with the key situations.
‘AUTISPOSTI’ in an early position raises about Allin and gets put to the test by ‘GoodStoryDMG’ in the big blind, and also the chip leader of the table. Cards go open and we have a battle. ‘AUTOPOSTI’ is in good shape with A J , against the 9 10 of ‘GoodStoryDMG’. The flop came K K 5 , and with the 7 on the turn it looked beautifully still, but the 10 on the river made it happen that we lost our first player of the Final Table. ‘AUTOPOSTI’ is a very decent regular on 888poker, having a 6-figure profit on his name. He definitely expected to get more out of this, but as the ultimate short stack, the chances of winning are thinner than a fishing line. He took home a nice $ 4,846.82 for his efforts.
After the early bust out, we saw another clash and this time it was even 3-way due to a miraculous move of ‘LegitNit’ who called an iso Allin while a short stack who chucked his remaining couple blinds in from early position:
With five poker players remaining, everyone locked up already a 5-figure score. But for players like ‘Perrymejsen’ from Sweden, it was just an ordinary day at the office, as he presumably belongs to the top 50 best online players in the world. Having reached the final table of this exact same event in the previous edition of The Festival Online (5th place), he was looking for vengeance, sadly for him, he got in a few narrow spots and eventually dripped off in 4th place, bagging $ 22,013.67.
Canadian ‘LegitNit’, who won event #26 during this series already, didn’t get rewarded for his courageous plays throughout the event, as he got a real bad beat and left the table with a Bronze Medal around his neck. His A Q could not avoid that the A 8 of ‘Luiz1958’ would spike the 8 on the flop, and without any improvement for ‘LegitNit’, he packed his bags, alongside $ 22,013.67. A great performance by the Canadian, and we are certain he will continue chasing one of such iconic victories during a Main Event.
After only 25 minutes of play during this Main Event Final Table of The Festival Online, we went from eight players to the final Heads-Up match between ‘Luiz1958’ and ‘GoodStoryDMG’. After playing for about an hour Heads-Up, chips going back and forth, it was eventually ‘GoodStoryDMG’ who could tell a great story back home, as he managed to secure the Gold Medal in this Main Event, together with the astonishing first prize of $ 41,305.83. Our friend from Brazil, ‘Luiz1958’, became a respectable runner-up in this event for $ 30,131.51.
Congratulations to All of You, and we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did. The Festival Online will make its return again eventually, and we do hope to see all of you back on the online tables there as well!

The sizzling poker summer of the WSOP action has well and truly cooled off, with the Triton and WSOPC London series issuing the next bunch of exciting online and live poker tournament series. Unibet Poker has jumped into the ring, bringing back fan favorites and action-packed online poker campaigns.
The Unibet Open’s Grand Return
The online poker community will buzz to see the Unibet Open make a much-awaited comeback. Online poker players can get into the mix today, with qualifiers running weekly and golden tickets to this event up for grabs.
What’s even better is that the winners of these qualifiers get the option to jump into the UDSO (Unibet DeepStack Open) events, all thanks to the prize of a €1,500 package. You get the luxury of choosing your lavish poker location, whether you want to go to the sunny shores of Malta, the bustling, busy streets of Marrakesh, or even the serene scenery of Annecy.
Why The Unibet Open is So Good For European Live Poker
When it comes to iconic European live poker tournaments, the Unibet Open has been a staple of the calendar for years. The prestigious legacy of the series has seen it in cities like London, Paris, and Bucharest, giving tons of satellites on Unibet to allow players to spin their way to these top poker destinations.
As well as finding so many satellite opportunities to get yourself in, the Unibet Open series caters to all poker players. If you are a fan of Pot Limit Omaha just as much as No Limit Texas Hold’em, you can find plenty of tournaments and cash games running to quench your four-card thirst.
The Unibet DeepStack Open is so good for the structure, allowing players to play with bigger-than-usual stacks, see more flops, and battle in bigger pots. The format encourages more poker playability but also gives an edge to the guys who like to go post-flop and go for expert poker players during a tournament. The UDSO has gained a lot of popularity for its selection of venues in Morocco and Malta, but it has also built up a fandom for the ease with which players can win a €1,500 package.
Check here for more info on the Unibet Open or the UDSO.

The Festival Online, powered by 888poker and PokerListings, offered an extraordinary real money poker event that began on the 16th of July. With an impressive $888,888 in guaranteed prize pools across 53 unique tournaments, it became a sought-after destination for online poker enthusiasts worldwide. The series attracted a diverse mix of skilled and recreational players, all competing for fame, big prizes, and trophies. Throughout the event, some players even demonstrated their poker prowess by excelling in multiple tournaments, creating unforgettable stories along the way. It has to be said that The Festival Series once again delivered to the people, resulting in 1000s of entrants throughout the past two weeks.
The opening events set the stage for an exciting festival, featuring buy-ins ranging from as low as $22 up to $525. A highlight was the $109 event with a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000, which saw ‘ZeiKo’ from Lithuania emerge as the triumphant winner, claiming a generous real money payout of nearly $15,000. The High Roller edition of the Opening event, with a $525 buy-in, showcased ‘altavistt’ from Belarus, who delivered an exceptional performance and earned a well-deserved real money reward of $8,400.
The excitement continued over the next two weeks, with an average of three real money poker tournaments scheduled daily. Players eagerly took part in the $160 Progressive Knock-Out event, offering multiple starting flights, alongside the aforementioned $109 opening event, High Roller poker tournaments, and the highly anticipated Main Event with a guaranteed real money prize pool of $200,000.
Multi-Day Progressive Knock Out
Among the most sought-after tournament formats was the PKO Multiple-Day Event, boasting a $150,000 real money guarantee and a $160 buy-in. Progressive Knock Out events have always been immensely popular, and this one was no exception. After a display of skill and a challenging heads-up battle, ‘ShashOs21’ from Cyprus emerged as the victorious real money champion, claiming an impressive reward of over $32,000, an astounding 200x return on the initial buy-in. The dynamic nature of knock-out tournaments, particularly progressive knock-outs, added to the excitement as players adapted their strategies, and bounty hunters displayed a heightened sense of determination.
Throughout the festival, the smaller real money events with lower guarantees also garnered significant attention and were warmly embraced by the poker players. Numerous real money winners were crowned, and the guaranteed prize pools were met, contributing to the overall success and exhilaration of The Festival Online.
888poker Ambassador and Twitch-Streamer Ian ‘Simpioni’ Simpson Wins Event #11
In the first week of the event, one of the nicest stories of the whole event took place in event #11, which was the $320 Super KO tournament. Ian Simpson, an 888poker Ambassador and fellow Twitch streamer made it happen to qualify himself for this event through one of the many satellites running throughout the entire series. Not only did he qualify, he eventually came out on top of the whole event, winning it for $4,695 in total!
Event #26 Became a Prey for ‘Legitnit’ from Canada
This event, with a $22 buy-in, was one of the many Mystery Bounty events on the schedule of The Festival Online. The highly popular knock-out variant delivered to its potential and eventually ‘Legitnit’ from Canada would take down the event for $2,449.83.
You can say that is already an impressive score of course, but imagine if you are also part of Day 3 of The Festival Online Main Event. He made it happen and started the Final Table as number 6 in chips. We will come back to the Main Event results in another article.
Brazilian Star ‘vireadulta7’ Wins Two Consecutive Events in a Row!
The Brazilian player would have had the run of his life, winning the Mystery Bounty Finale High Roller and the Afterparty HR Mini, good for a total of $17,670! Amazing performance and for sure these kind of moments are to cherish as they are rare in the poker world, to win two events in a row. In that second event, nothing less than ‘SlayerV1Fan’ became the runner-up. The well-known hyper SNG crusher, who is also a Twitch streamer, just came in short and couldn’t stop the uprising of ‘vireadulta7’.
Full List of Results of The Festival Online
In our next article about The Festival Online, we will recap the Main Event and go more into detail about the final 8 players of the event. Stay Tuned!

The Main Event of The Festival Online, powered by 888poker and PokerListings, kicked off last Wednesday. With a buy-in of just $250 and a guaranteed prize pool of $ 200,000, there is a lot to play for throughout the numerous starting flights. Whenever you reach day two of the event, you will be automatically in the money. Not only is the Main Event happening over the weekend, there are plenty of other events to run hot. Take for example the Mystery Bounty event, which has three separate events until Sunday, starting today.
Many more events will be held, make sure to check out the poker lobby of 888poker to make yourself a great selection of tournaments. In this article, we will help you forward with this and will highlight the previous events where a winner has been crowned. The Festival Online is a real money tournament series, which carries the same name as the live version of it, The Festival Series, which will know its next stop on the 27th of November in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Four events were on the schedule on Wednesday, including the first day of the Main Event, which eventually had 49 entries. With this number, it’s off to a good start for the Main Event as usually the numbers in the early flights are somewhat low compared to the flights throughout the weekend. The other events were all one-day poker tournaments and they included the $22 Super Mini KO 6K GTD, the $109 Texas Super KO 8K GTD, and the $22 Mystery Bounty 10K GTD. The numbers of these events were, the same as the previous days, very decent. Which resulted in big prize pools all over.
