Blaz Zerjav Keeps Winning — Now Crushing Live at the WSOP

28-year-old Slovenian poker pro Blaz Zerjav is putting up phenomenal results both online and live. In this article, we’ll share more about his latest win and his non-poker background.

From Recreational Player to Pro — A “Moneymaker-Style” Rise

If you Google “Blaz Zerjav,” the top results will be football websites — player stats, match results, transfer info, and so on.

Back in 2018, he played as a midfielder for the Krško football club, which at the time ranked 10th in Slovenia’s top national league.

At that point, Blaz Zerjav had no plans of becoming a poker pro. He started playing around 10 years ago, grinding PokerStars freerolls. After building a small bankroll, he moved on to Fifty50 Sit & Go’s. He played those for a couple of years before switching fully to tournaments.

The pivotal moment in his poker career came in 2018 when he qualified for the $5K partypoker Millions Online $20M GTD through a $22 satellite. Even a min-cash in that tournament would have been a huge boost to his $2.2K bankroll — but Zerjav went much further. He finished 3rd for $1,365,000. Funny enough, after that score, he continued grinding tournaments with buy-ins up to $55 just like before.

In 2020, Blaz graduated from the University of Ljubljana with a degree in Anglistika and kept winning online. He notched another massive score in the $10K WPT World Online Championships — 4th place for $552K, having qualified through a $109 satellite.

Blaz Zerjav continues to crush both online and live. In 2024, he finished 2nd in the €1K FPS Main Event (€294.5K) and 2nd in the $5K WSOP Paradise Deepstack ($225K).

But that was just the beginning.

2025 — The Year of Blaz Zerjav

In early June 2025, Blaz scored back-to-back SCOOP wins on consecutive nights: the $215 Mystery Bounty ($103.8K) and the $530 NLHE DeepStack ($211K).

A week later, he arrived at the WSOP and secured what is, so far, the biggest win of his career — 1st place in the $25K NLHE 6-Handed for $1,734,717.

At the final table, Zerjav found himself in a situation similar to what happened to Alexander Shevliakov at the EPT Main Event. Chris Moorman opened to 480K on the BTN, Bleznick 3-bet to 1.5M from the SB. On the BB with pocket kings, Zerjav verbally announced “1.3M” — but the dealer ruled it as just a call. You can see how the hand played out on Twitter:

Most commenters agreed that this wasn’t angle shooting — and that the potential EV loss from such a “dirty move” outweighs any advantage.

Zerjav entered heads-up against Chris Moorman at a 4:1 chip disadvantage. But two all-ins later, he took the lead: QQ > 44, then AQs > 99. Zerjav moved up to 150 BBs, while Moorman dropped to 19 BBs. The heads-up lasted another hour. In the final hand, Moorman shoved AJo against Zerjav’s AKo — pot size: 22 BBs. The runner-up prize was $1,129,608.

Interestingly, Blaz Zerjav’s biggest live victory came on his birthday.

More Wins Ahead

High Roller Week kicked off at the WSOP with the $50K NLHE High Roller 8-handed. Blaz Zerjav wasn’t on the Day 1 entry list — but he may jump in on Day 2. The $100K NLHE High Roller begins on July 11, and the $250K Super High Roller starts on July 15.
