The Banco Casino Masters event is no stranger to the series of tournaments organized in Eastern Europe. The largest Slovak live event, running for the 33rd time, features a significantly low buy-in of €170 and an amazing €250.000 guaranteed prize pool! Unprecedented for such a low buy-in you might think, but with ten starting days there are a lot of opportunities for players to bag and tag. If you run it quickly through the calculator, you will learn that it takes 1470 players to achieve this. Last January there was a similar series and the guaranteed prize pool of €250.000 was eventually amply exceeded.
For example, in 2018 this event was organized without a guaranteed prize pool and already attracted a great field of 600 players. With a buy-in of €165, it was Austria's Nebojsa Ankucic who eventually walked away with the top prize of over €17K after a heads-up deal with Slovak Jakub Riska. Looking even further into the history books, there was a Masters event with a similar buy-in with a total of 825 registrations. Slovak Roman Angleta was then the winner for over €21K, followed by Jan Kozach and Milan Lakatos, as they had made a deal in the final three.
So you can say that in roughly 5 years the playing fields have tripled. Mainly due to the hug live poker boom that has prevailed in recent years, but especially players from the Western parts of Europe are finding their way to Eastern Europe faster. When the value is smelled, people quickly come and have a look. Plus it’s a fact that Vienna for example is literally just half an hour away from Bratislava, which gives extremely swift flight options for everyone.
