888poker Joins Forces with Swedish Online Poker Championships

888poker has signed a two-year deal to be the exclusive online poker room partner of the Swedish Online Poker Championships.

The site has been expanding exponentially in the last few years and just closed a deal with Europe’s largest card club King’s Casino in Rozvadov.

The Swedish Poker Championships are held annually both live and online, and in the past utilized platforms like NordicBet, Unibet, Full Tilt Poker and market leader PokerStars.

Now, the Swedish Poker Federation (Svenska Pokerförbünde; SPF) is moving on to 888poker.

Swedish Championships Looks to Rebound

The online Championship series will take place during the last week of May and it’s open to Swedish residents only.

The series begins May 24 and will feature two tournaments each day leading up to the Main Event on May 29-30.

The winner of the Main Event will receive a ticket to the PSMO live event in Malta. Mauritz Altikardes, CEO at Swedish Poker Events, commented on pokersm.com:

“I’m very excited that 888poker is becoming our partner for the coming two years. This means that they are taking our market seriously and see it as an investment for the future.

“Looking at last year’s championship, it’s an uphill battle. 888poker are aware of this but are still going for it.

“888poker has been very responsive, and together we have decided to lower the buy-ins for all tournaments to make some games more attractive to a broader player base.

“I believe that this is exactly what the SPF needs, a committed partner that wants to support the online community and grow with it.”

Bjorin, Lennaárd Among Swedish Champs

The Swedish Poker Championship has been running online since 2006, and live even since 1975. Past winners have been Swedish poker hall of fame member Chris Bjorin, Ken Lennaárd and Viktor Blom’s brother Sebastian.

Naturally, 888poker pro Sofia Lövgren is particularly happy about SPF’s decision to move to 888poker.

“I am looking forward to the championship and very pleased that 888poker is such a central part of it.

“I’ve been playing online poker almost exclusively on 888poker for the past two years and I can honestly say that 888poker tournaments are advancing impressively and are attracting some of the best Swedish MTT players on a regular basis.

“As a Swede and an ambassador for 888poker I think it’s great that we’re expanding even more in my home country.”

The Swedish Championships are the latest inclusions into a long line of live and online events you can play and qualify for on 888poker.

Using their steps system you can qualify for events like the 888Live event on the Costa Brava, the 888Live Local events in London, Montreal, or Sao Paolo, the World Series of Poker and many more. Buy-ins start at a meager 1 cent.
