Sorel Mizzi

Sorel Mizzi

Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi is another professional poker player who started out making waves online long before he hit the live poker tables. He learned to play Texas Hold'em during his teen years and signed up to play online.

He learned some of the basics from another online phenom, Josh "JJProdigy" Fields, but quickly developed his own style of play. It was a style that worked well for him as he built a bankroll and climbed the tournament leaderboards on several poker sites.

At PokerStars alone Mizzi has cashed for more than $500,000, including outright victories in a Sunday Warm-Up for $80,000 and other multi-table tournaments. In 2007 he also took down the High Stakes Heads-Up Showdown on PokerStars four out of its first six runs.

Before turning 21, Mizzi started transitioning to live tournaments as well. He hit up the UltimateBet Aruba Poker Classic for a 10th-place finish in fall 2006. In early 2007 he was in Vienna for the Spring Poker Festival where he cashed twice, one of those a win, before heading to Dublin for the Paddy Power Irish Open.

He turned 21 in April 2007 and headed to Las Vegas for the World Poker Tour $25,000 Championship where he cashed in 15th place. Since then he's cashed in several World Series of Poker events, more WPT events, European Poker Tour events, and more.

In 2007 Mizzi was also involved in an account selling incident on Full Tilt Poker where he took over the account of another player, Chris Vaughn, in the middle of a tournament. He went on to win that tournament but was disqualified and the money went to the second-place finisher instead.

Mizzi apologized for his actions, but was barred from playing on the site. It hasn't put a damper in his online career however. Mizzi has since been sponsored by Betfair Poker and he continues to dominate online rankings while he builds his live reputation as well.

Trivia
