November Recap: The Fall of Ziigmund
There were plenty of players who lost money in November but no one fell further than Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies who dropped $1.3 million.
Sahamies, who has been ice cold over the last couple months on Full Tilt, even admitted on his blog he’s likely in the biggest downswing of his career.
It’s been hard times for the aggressive Finn who hasn’t recorded a losing year online since 2007. His losses in 2010 now total $1.9 million.
Sahamies essentially stuck to Pot-Limit Omaha in November but that didn’t seem to help as everyone from Gus Hansen to Dan “jungleman12” Cates took a piece of Ziigmund.
During the middle of the month Sahamies even went over a week without recording a single winning day.
As Sahamies trended down, fellow Finn Patrik Antonius skyrocketed to the top. The Team Full Tilt pro dominated November and won a total of $1.2 million over 7,579 hands.
It helped that Antonius has been playing a series of $2,000/$4,000 Limit Hold’em games against IHateJuice and utterly destroying him.
Antonius now sits on $1.7 million on the year and looks to finish 2010 with yet another winning year.
Since Antonius started playing under his current handle on Full Tilt Poker he has never recorded a losing year.
Right behind Antonius was Di “Urindanger” Dang, who despite some cold runs during the month, managed to win some huge sessions near the end and finish up $894k. He’s now on $1.3 million for the year.
Close behind Dang, perhaps fittingly, was Scott “URnotINdanger2” Palmer. Palmer, whose Full Tilt alias is a play on Dang’s online name, took down a $628k this month.
Some of the other big winners this month included rumprammer (+$512k), DrugsOrMe (+$504k), skjervoy ($434k) and Dan “jungleman12” Cates ($405k).
Even Gus Hansen finished up $369k this month, which was a vast improvement to previous months where he had lost over a million. Hansen will still have clear about $1.2 million if he wants to get even this year.
Ziigmund was easily the biggest loser in November but cadillac1944 (-$824k) and Erik “DIN_FRU” Sagstrom (-$585k) also had forgettable months. Even David Benefield, who has been rock solid this year, lost $508k in the month of November.
