Shulman Tells WCP He'll Throw WSOP Bracelet in Garbage

It's down to only 15 players in the Main Event, and Jeff Shulman has a serious shot at making this year's November Nine.

Shulman is a familiar face in the poker world due to his affiliation with Card Player magazine, but his ascension to the late stages of the Main Event doesn't sound quite like a feel-good story.

According to a story on Wicked Chops Poker that surfaced Wednesday, Shulman has plans for the Main Event bracelet should he make it to the Final Table and win in November.

According to Wicked Chops, rumors had been circulating he was planning on renouncing the bracelet if he wins.

When asked about it on break, Shulman replied "If by renounce it you mean throw it in the garbage, then yes."

Shulman, who's cruising through the day after eliminating former chipleader Ludovic Lacay, is now sitting on a sizeable stack and could provide for some interesting TV if he makes the final table.

The Card Player editor has been outspoken about the WSOP's practice of selling exclusive media rights, and the perceived unfair treatment for his publication appears to be the reason for his discontent.

PokerListings.com approached Shulman during the last break, but he declined to comment on anything while he's playing.

We'll keep you posted.

Why does he need another world championship? He's already a world champion jackass.

I think this is a pretty good move by Shulman. It's not really that different than what other activists are doing today. He doesn't agree with how the WSOP handles the media aspect of poker, and that's fine. He's basically promoting Card Player and will eventually boost the ratings on Nov. 9th. Nothing negative is coming out of this.

Although, I'm not so sure it's a financially smart move by saying all of this. The winner gets a ton of promotional money, and if people don't agree with what you're doing nobody's going to pay you loads to be in their ads or apart of their poker sites (aka PokerStars).

At least melt the gold down and pick the diamonds out, Jeff. You don't want someone else wearing your title around.

I can't wait for him to walk to the rail. If he doesn't want the prize why is he playing? He should be thanking everyone at WSOP for giving him this opportunity. Looking back he'll regreat this one. No one is going to take his side on this.

Ya know, Oscar the Grouch would crap on himself if he read that statement. Do the Vegas bums know about this, ya think? I think it's just an attention getter. I mean really. Have ya seen that thing? The bracelet? Costs more than my life insurance benefits. Well, if he REALLY thinks in that fashion, to basically wipe his ass w/the top sentiment/prize in poker then he is living proof that humans do suck. He just put me on tilt!

Ok lets not get silly here. #1 He wants the money #2 He wants the fame for card player #3 Card play isn't going to toss him after all the media coverage he's getting #4 They are probably happy that he is drawing attention to the WSOP #5 I think it's funny as hell

What a moron. Will he "renounce" the millions he wins too? I don't think so. Card Player should "renounce"' him ASAP. And if they can't find the sense to do that, then maybe their readers should "renounce" Card Player. He is an embarassment to all players that value the title.

    What a dick.

He has a problem with exclusive rights? Am I wrong or did Cardplayer buy the same deal in 2005 and 06?

Just cuz they blew it he doesn't like it?
