Robbie Strazynski and his Card Player Lifestyle poker blog will be a familiar name and face for avid fans of poker media. It all came from humble beginnings for Robbie, who was born in 1981 in a booming Los Angeles. He grew up during a prosperous 80s period in Southern California and would go on family holidays to Las Vegas several times a year.

“It was a 4.5-hour drive and my family would stay for the weekend,” said Strazysnki to Best Poker Coaching. “We were not high rollers but it was a fun, quick vacation. It was the 90s and Vegas was still very kid-friendly, with tons of attractions, theme parks, shows - it was an amazing experience, I loved the whole idea of gambling and specifically poker.”

Learned Poker at the Kitchen Table

Robbie learned poker by playing Mixed Games like 5-Card Stud and Ante with his father and grandfather at the kitchen table, similar to the way Phil Ivey and many others back in the 80s and 90s. Strazynski would get in on home games and would watch his father play with his friends, just before poker would change when Chris Moneymaker won the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event.

“I’m sort of a product of the Moneymaker boom. I saw everything on ESPN and I started playing live poker with my friends, as well as with my dad’s group.”

Whilst a fanatic and a true poker lover, Robbie tends to stick to home games and the fun side of the game - he avoids online and quits online poker for “missing the fun element.” Robbie moved from Los Angeles to Israel in 1998, and the country doesn’t have any casinos or poker clubs so the only way for Robbie to play is with his buddies.

Card Player Lifestyle

Robbie’s involvement in poker took off in 2009 when he started cardplayerlifestyle.com with a friend. His knack for writing and his friend’s back-end skill saw the blog take off, whilst Robbie learned the intricacies of web development, digital marketing, and content management.

“Back then we didn’t have a real direction, didn’t have any goals, we had somewhere around 5-10 hits a day on the site. After having learned a lot about WordPress from my partner friend and realizing who my site’s audience was, I bought him out in August 2011.”

Strazynski gets over 6,000+ visitors to Card Player Lifestyle every month, and he works with the biggest operators and poker news providers in the industry. Now, Robbie works on various poker editing and guest writing as well as podcasts, and an app and works as a Head of Content Strategy for an online gambling industry news site.

Poker Notes Live

Robbie’s app could be a very useful one for players - it is called Poker Notes Live, allowing players to take notes during live poker games. He worked with a developer and now has it in 9 different languages and on both iOS and Android.

As well as the app, Robbie reached a huge career milestone when he translated the autobiography of Israeli poker legend Eli Elezra called ‘Pulling The Trigger’ from English to Hebrew. Robbie carried out the “Running Well” Challenge in 2018 where he ran 1,000km and donated $1 per kilometer to Save a Child’s Heart - this amazing charitable feat won him the Global Poker Award for Charitable Initiative of the Year and he was also noted by the Women’s Poker Association for his support, as he won 2020 Media Support Person of the Year.
