Action From 1A of the SiGMA South America Poker Tour Main Event

The SiGMA South America Poker Tour Main Event is underway in São Paulo, Brazil, the continent’s home of poker, at the glamorous Monte Carlo Club in the heart of the city. An overwhelming chip-leader has emerged from the reduced $R2,000 Promo Day, which took place on April 2nd before the event’s official start date. Action was in abundance in Day 1A of the Main Event, with big hands taking place across the tournament floor. Here is a look at some of the action that transpired.

With a reduced buy-in of R$2,000, the Promo Day served as the gateway to the main tournament of the series. The reduced buy-in attracted 100 players (plus 34 re-entries), all of whom were looking for a place on Day 2 of the marquee event of the R$1,000,000 guaranteed Main Event. At the end of the marathon 14-hour stint at the tables, only 15 remained. Of the progressing players, it was Helton Richard who led home the 15 Brazilians when play came to an end, bagging over 2x the stack of second-place finisher Lucas Portella.

1A saw 64 players enter the fray in pursuit of a Day 2 bag, and only 10 progressed. Action came thick and fast in 1A of the full R$2,500 buy in. Russian player Evgenii had his aces cracked by British player Lina. He opened from under the gun to 600 with the blinds at 100/200, with Line calling in the cutoff. Both players were called by Brazilian duo Donizette on the button and Arthur in the big blind. The 10 3 7 flop was checked to Evgenii, who bet 1,200. Lina and Donizette called. The 9 saw Evgenii fire again for 2,000, both Line and Donizette called again. The J river saw Lina move all in for 10,700. Evgenii called and was shown 8 8 for a straight to crack the A A of the Russian.

Lina was involved in another monster pot where she was the beneficiary of a three-way all-in on the turn of a single-raised preflop single-raised pot, which saw a four-bet flop. Micaela from Argentina opened to 1,000 from under the gun with the blinds at 200/500. Bruno Lin from China called from an early position. Lina called from the hijack, and Parayofis defended the big blind. The flop of K 7 A saw Micaela bet 1,300. Lin called before Lina raised to 5,000
Parayofis then 3-bet to 10,000. Micaela folded, and Lin four-bet to 35,000. Lina and Parayofis called. On the Q turn, Lin moved all-in for 46,000,
Lina called for 43,200, and Parayofis called, covering both. In an epic cooler, Bruno A K , Lina K K , and Parayofis Q J . The 8 river changed nothing, and Lina scooped a huge pot, with Lin taking the sidepot.

Towards the tournament’s final frames, Brazilian Sketch scooped a three-way preflop all-in versus compatriots, Eric Marasco and Artur. With the blinds at 2,000/4,000, Sketch had A K from under the gun, Artur A 6 Marasco K K in the big blind. The 2 5 3 A 10 gave Sketch the winner and his tablemates a trip to the rail.

Bubble time arrived an hour or so later, and it was Dani Leão who missed out courtesy of a cooler. She had Q Q versus Sketch who had 4 4 . He opened from under the gun, prompting Leão to move all in with her Ladies from the big blind. It wasn’t meant to be this time around for her and her Queens, as Sketch flopped a set on 9 J 4 . The 6 changed nothing, and drawing to only two outs, the 4 was salt in the wounds as Sketch improved to quad fours.
