Come Bet
A Come bet in craps is a line wager made after the table point, which is a number the shooter must roll again before 7, has already been established. It acts like starting a personal Pass Line bet mid-round. The next roll after you place chips in the Come area becomes your own come-out roll. A 7 or 11 wins even money, 2, 3, or 12 loses, and any other number becomes your private point, which must be rolled again before a 7 for the bet to win.
How a Come Bet Works
The Come bet is easier to follow if you see it as a short sequence inside the main game.
- The shooter has already rolled a point number such as 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10\.
- You place chips in the box on the layout labeled “Come.”
The next roll decides what happens:
- 7 or 11: the Come bet wins and pays 1:1.
- 2, 3, or 12: the Come bet loses and the chips are removed.
- Any other number: that number becomes the come-point for your bet.
When a come-point is set, the dealer moves your chips from the Come area to the box for that number. From then on, your Come bet wins if the come-point appears again before a 7 and loses if a 7 is rolled first.
Payouts, House Edge, and Odds
The Come bet combines simple payouts with one of the fairest edges the casino offers.
- The flat Come bet pays even money. A $10 wager brings $10 in profit when it wins.
- The house edge on the Come bet is about 1.41%, the same as the Pass Line bet and much lower than most one-roll proposition bets.
After a come-point is set, you can add an extra wager behind the original bet called odds. This side bet pays at true odds with no extra house edge, but it needs more bankroll and still depends on the flat Come bet staying alive.
A Quick Example
The shooter’s point is 6\. You place $10 in the Come box. The next roll is a 5 \- that becomes your come-point. The dealer moves your $10 to the “5” box. A few rolls later, the shooter rolls a 5 again before a 7 appears. Your Come bet wins $10 in profit.
FAQ
How is a Come bet different from a Place bet?
A Place bet is a direct wager that a chosen number will roll before a 7\. A Come bet begins in the Come box, can win or lose on the next roll, and only moves to a number after that number has been rolled to set the come-point.
Can I cancel or take down a Come bet once I have made it?
In most casinos, the Come bet is a contract bet, so once it is on the layout and a come-point has been set, it has to stay in action until it wins or loses. You can remove or turn off the separate odds bet behind it, but the original Come bet itself remains valid.
What happens to my Come bet if the shooter sevens out before my come-point hits?
If a 7 is rolled before your come-point repeats, your Come bet loses immediately, along with any odds behind it \- the round for that shooter also ends.
