ziigmund first million-dollar man

Ilari Sahamies

By Daniel Skolovy

The record for biggest online pot of all time was broken last month when patatino took a $609,730 pot off one Hac "trex313" Dang. This time another record goes down in flames: largest stack on a No-Limit Hold'em table.

Now, we've seen million-dollar stacks before. TexasLimitKing showed us his million-dollar roll on the $500/$1,000 limit games.

But that was different - in minbet, you can buy in for whatever you want. In No-Limit there is a max buy-in, meaning if you had a million dollars on the table, you won it there.

In September, on RailHeaven, David Benyamine came oh-so-close twice. Both times, to the dismay of the railbirds, he quit the game shy of the million-dollar mark.

On Saturday night Ilari "ziigmund" Sahamies went on a massive heater at Full Tilt Poker's $500/$1,000 No-Limit Hold'em RailHeaven table, setting a new online poker record and breaking the million-dollar mark. At his peak ziigmund had $1,140,000 on the table.

The record-breaking hand came when it was folded around to ziigmund in the small blind. He raises to $3,000, and Patrik Antonius calls in the big blind.

The hand that put $1 million in Sahamies' stack.

The flop comes 8d 8s 9h and ziigmund bets $5,000. Patrik raises to $18,000 and ziigmund makes the call.

The turn comes 2c and ziigmund checks and Patrik checks through.

The river is the 7h; ziigmund checks again, and Patrik bets $36,000. ziigmund makes the call.

Patrik shows Tc 9d for two pair, nines and eights, and ziigmund shows Jh Jc for two bigger pair. ziigmund ships the $114,000 pot and cracks the million-dollar barrier for the first time in online poker history.

ziigmund, however, did not leave with a million; he dumped back almost $350,000 before quitting the game near the $830,000 mark. The record, of course, still stands, and booking a half-million-dollar win is still an OK day, I guess.

With all of the major records falling in the last month and a half (biggest pot, biggest stack, largest tournament prize pool), what's next? Will we see a $1,000/$2,000 table? Will we see a million-dollar pot? All I know is, it's a good time to be a railbird!
