Daily 3-Bet: Bike Bet Retrospective, F-Bomb Jungleman, €250k Satty
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a three-layer monster plate of nachos served on the house in the mid-afternoon poker news cantina.
You can always make suggestions for future 3-Bet pieces in the comments section below.
In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Brian Rast’s monumental bike ride, a salty Jungelman and a €250k satellite for One Drop.
1) Brian Rast Blogs Bike Bets
It’s a few weeks old but Brian Rast has a compelling look back at that epic LV to LA bicycle bet that took place this spring this year on his personal blog.
Dan Bilzerian grabbed the lion’s share of attention when he did the bet but it’s easy to forget that Rast did the same exact ride without the benefit of weeks of training and a drafting vehicle.
Interesting Rast nearly attempted to buy out of the challenge just a couple days before it began because he was having trouble getting the proper bike gear. Dan Bilzerian declined the buy out. Bilzerian did offer a buyout when Rast was nearly finished:
So I walk up one insane hill which takes like 45 minutes. From the top I bike most of the way to the last hill that leads up to Dan's house. I have about an hour and 45 minutes left (it's about 5:45PM). Dan meets me at the bottom and wants to know how much he can save if I'm willing to stop now to save the pain of the last part. The answer is 0$, though I could barely process what Dan's saying or speak myself. I was so mentally fixated on reaching my goal that tunnel vision had caused my brain to stop functioning normally.
Moral of the story? Never underestimate the Rastinator.
2) Dan “Jungleman” Cates Drops 93 F-Bombs
Dan “Jungleman” Cates never fails to entertain on the Global Poker League and yesterday was no exception.
This time around Cates managed to actually run OK and beat Andrey Pateychuk 2-1, which netted the Berlin Bears a much needed 6 points.
Because Cates won you'd expect he didn't quite as salty as normal, right? Wrong. Cates threw down a staggering 93 f-bombs over the course of the match.
Never change, Jungleman:
3) €1,000,000 One Drop Satellite
Want to play the upcoming €1m buy-in Big One for One Drop in Monte Carlo but don’t have the €1m to play?
Time to play a €250,000 satellite.
Dutch poker journalist Frank Op de Woerd snagged a cool photo of what appears to be Talal Shakerchi, Andrew Pantling, Haralabos Voulgaris, Senh Man Ung and Evan. Six players, one $1m seat and €500k for second place.
Now some of these players may just be playing the satellite for the value and will be playing One Drop regardless but it’s a fascinating line up.
It’s also interesting because Haralabos Voulgaris, Andrew Pantling and Talal Shakerchi could all be considered poker pros.
