Brazilian Footballer Denilson Joins 888poker as Brand Ambassador


Once the most expensive footballer in the world, Brazilian star and 2002 World Cup champion Denilson has joined Team 888poker as its new celebrity ambassador.

The 38-year-old icon retired from football in 2010 and since has worked as a commentator on Brazilian TV, but his new challenge will be learning the game of poker.

“Many of the qualities you need to be a successful footballer," Denilson said in a release, "can help you improve your poker game.

“888poker is one of the biggest and best poker platforms in the world, so I am very proud to join the 888poker team.

"I hope it will help develop my own poker skills as well as encourage new players to get involved in this exciting game.”

Denilson joins fellow Brazilian footballers Neymar Jr. and Ronaldo, both sponsored by PokerStars) in further promoting the game to the poker-crazed nation.

He'll be mentored by Brazilian 888poker pros Nicolau Villa-Lobos, Bruno Politano and Bruno Kawauti.

World Cup Champion, Most Expensive Transfer

Denilson's exploits on the pitch are many and storied.

He played for the Brazilian National Team from 1996 to 2003 and helped win a World Cup in 2002 in Japan and South Korea.

In 1998 he also became the most expensive footballer in the world with his transfer to Real Betis from Sao Paulo for £21.5m.

All told Denilson's football career spanned 16 years and 10 different clubs.
