Fortune Wheel Spin to Win

Six-time WSOP gold bracelet winner and GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu documented a rough summer where he lost $1.1 million. He was down a bit more than that in 2022 and was on pace for what appeared likely to be his first losing year since 2017.

Negreanu turned everything around and instead of showing a nearly $2 million loss on the year, he is now in profit for $1,671,022 after defeating Nick Petrangelo heads-up in the nosebleed $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl VII for $3,312,000.

Negreanu is one of the most successful no-limit hold’em poker tournament players of all time with nearly $50 million in live tournament earnings as tracked by The Hendon Mob placing him in third place on The Hendon Mob All Time Money List just behind Justin Bonomo and Bryn Kenney.

This wasn’t the only success that Negreanu had in a Super High Roller Bowl tournament as he took runner-up in the $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl IV in 2018 for a cool $3 million. Three-time Super High Roller Bowl champion Bonomo won that event for $5 million and while he was unable to win this time around, he did manage a fourth-place finish to collect $720,000.

While Negreanu’s Super High Roller Bowl success has added millions to his bankroll, this isn’t where Negreanu achieved his biggest success to date. That came eight years ago when he finished runner-up to Dan Colman in the 2014 WSOP Event #58: $1,000,000 No Limit Hold’em – The Big One for One Drop for $8,288,001.

We could easily be writing about a different champion for this event if not for a big hand on Day 1. The recently controversial Kenney was allowed to play while others embroiled in controversy in Ali Imsirovic and Jake Schindler are banned at least until the end of the year by PokerGO for all of its events. That being said, Kenney wasn’t grouped in by PokerGO with others accused of cheating and was allowed to play. In hindsight, it would have worked out better for Kenney if he didn’t enter as his wallet wouldn’t be $300,000 lighter.

Kenney got into a major hand with Negreanu where he held aces and nailed a set on an ace-four-five flop. Negreanu with pocket threes improved to an inferior set after a trey hit the turn. Thus far, the betting was relatively small but that all changed after Negreanu further improved to the nuts with quads after the case trey spiked the river. All the chips went in then to eliminate Kenney, and Negreanu never looked back en route to victory.

Super High Roller Bowl VII Results

The Super High Roller Bowl VII attracted 24 of the biggest names in poker to generate a whopping $7,200,000 prize pool. The top four players were awarded at least a min-cash of $720,000 with payouts going up quickly from there.

Final Day Action

Five players returned on the third and final day on the money bubble with four spots getting paid. Petrangelo and Negreanu were on the top of the pack with Andrew Lichtenberger, Orpen Kisacikoglu, and Bonomo all with shorter stacks.

Two of the shorter stacked players collided early on with Lichtenberger four-bet jamming queens and Kisacikoglu calling off his stack with ace-queen. The money bubble broke after the board ran clean for Lichtenberger and it was guaranteed with Turkey’s Kisacikoglu on the rail that the event would feature all American players in the money.

Lictenberger was back at it again, this time eliminating Bonomo in fourth place after his jacks were good against eights. All three players were near even at this point during three-handed play but that all changed when Lichtenberger’s good fortunes ended when he ran his king-six into Negreanu’s ace-six.

Negreanu began heads-up action with a nearly 5:1 chip advantage and eventually had Petrangelo on the ropes with just 10 big big blinds when the final hand took place. Negreanu jammed with queen-seven suited and Petrangelo called off with king-five. If Petrangelo was able to hold, he would have been right back into things. Instead, Negreanu connected with his seven on the flop and won the event after Petrangelo bricked the board.

After the win, Negreanu tweeted his appreciation for his ever-supporting wife Amanda Negreanu.

Congrats to Daniel Negreanu on an epic victory and turning around his year!

Other Qualifying Routes to the $5 Million GTD Venom PKO

As the old – and quite macabre – saying goes, there’s more than one way to skin a cat, and so it happens that there are all sorts of ways to qualify for the $5 Million Venom PKO…

Freerolls

It wouldn’t be Americas Cardroom without it being possible to find yourself with a $2,650 seat completely free! Get involved in daily Freerolls to earn spots in Satellites and Mega Satellites, and you could be sitting at the poker world’s blue ribboned PKO tournament without having paid a single cent.

Venom PKO Blitz Steps

The progressive Steps qualification system has been tweaked to produce this fast and furious Blitz version. And it couldn’t be more bankroll-friendly – there are nine levels, and buy-ins start at a tiny 11 cents. Successfully complete all the Steps and a shiny $2,650 Venom PKO Ticket is yours. And if you’re feeling a bit lazy, feel free to skip a level or three by buying in directly into any Steps phase.

Venom PKO On-Demand Step and Skip Tournaments

Keep a lookout in the client for our On-Demand Steps and Skip qualifiers – just check out the VENOM tab and be prepared to jump in to these 24/7 sats. Once the required minimum of players has registered the action starts and, again, you’re welcome to join the quest for a $2,650 Venom PKO seat at any buy-in level.

Good luck, and have fun on your way to this world-leading event!

Imagine the scene: you’ve been slogging away in an online poker tournament for hours, bobbing and weaving and, thanks to some nifty moves, good old-fashioned guts and a bit of help from Lady Luck, you’re got to the point where you’re tantalisingly close to the money. In fact, you’re a mere one place from making a well-deserved cash. Then, in the big blind, it’s checked round to you, and you get to see a Flop of J 8 2 that gifts you a set of eights. You end up not backing away from an all-in showdown with someone who has you covered, they have a set of jacks, and you’re unceremoniously sent to the rail, leaving behind a few dozen players who, due to your elimination, are all guaranteed a prize.

GGPoker Offers Peace of Mind

Regardless of how much you’re to blame for ending a long session empty-handed, it’s one of those unenviable, gut-wrenching low points of poker that we have to live with but would, in an ideal world, avoid if we could. Play at the forward-thinking, user-friendly GGPoker and that’s exactly what you can do! Thanks to their Bubble Protection facility you’re able to protect your real money poker buy-in with exactly this scenario in mind, and all you need to do is show up early for the tournament.

How It Works

It’s easy to arrange. To go about protecting your buy-in, simply find the Bubble Protection stamp in the tournament lobby and make sure that you register before the tournament begins (hence the Early Bird bit). Then you can play with that extra bit of confidence granted you by knowing that your decision-making process won’t be hampered when on the bubble as the business end of the tournament approaches, because you’ll get your buy-in back should you get knocked just outside the payouts.

The following tournaments offer Bubble Protection:

  • Daily Guarantees
  • Bounty Hunters (excluding Speed Racers)
  • Omaholic
  • Chinese Zodiac
GGPoker. Bubble protection.

(Bubble Protection is not available in satellite tournaments). Note that by securing Early Bird Bubble Protection it remains intact even if you re-enter. Rewards are credited to your account when a player is eliminated, and buy-ins are usually compensated in T$ (this might differ based on certain tournaments).

Bubble Protection is just one of many great features at GGPoker introduced with players in mind, so if you haven’t yet signed up, you can do that today and make the most of the latest poker bonus offers … have fun, and good luck!

The Super High Roller Bowl VII has lived up to its billing at the PokerGO Studio from the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The $300,000 buy-in nosebleed no-limit hold’em event attracted 24 of the top names in poker to generate a huge $7,200,000 prize pool. After two days of play, the action was whittled down to just five players with Nick Petrangelo with 2,630,000 in chips in the lead and GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu not too far behind.

Meanwhile, Andrew Lichtenberger (880,000), Orpen Kisacikoglu (855,000), and Justin Bonomo (610,000) are all still alive for the title and the whopping $3,312,000 top prize but have their work cut out for them. However, any of the trio can also win the title when the action resumes on Friday with even Bonomo’s short stack equating to a more-than-healthy 41 big blinds.

As we already recapped, the opening day two days ago witnessed some fireworks with Negreanu rivering quads to send Bryn Kenney to the rail with aces-full.

While yesterday’s penultimate day didn’t showcase any super coolers like this one, it did provide tons of excitement with Petrangelo and Negreanu eliminating opponents throughout the day.

Negreanu began the day with the chip lead and was the chip leader for most of the day. That changed near the end of the night according to the PokerGO Tour blog after Petrangelo won a pot against Eric Worre before eliminating him in another hand when his jacks were good against king-jack suited.

Nick Petrangelo
Nick Petrangelo at the SHRB VII

If Petrangelo is able to parlay his chip stack into a victory, it will be his single largest cash in his illustrious poker career according to The Hendon Mob where he is tracked with nearly $25 million in live tournament cashes. His biggest haul thus far to date came with a World Series of Poker bracelet when he shipped the 2018 WSOP Event #5: $100,000 No Limit Hold’em – High Roller for $2,910,227.

Negreanu already has a larger cash than the winner’s prize thanks to finishing runner-up to Dan Colman in the 2014 WSOP Event #58: $1,000,000 No Limit Hold’em – The Big One for One Drop for $8,288,001 but this would be his biggest that also came along with a title. ‘Kid Poker’ already has found success in the past during the Super High Roller Bowl as he was rewarded $3,000,000 back in 2018 for finishing runner-up in the $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl IV to the still contending and three-time Super High Roller Bowl champion Bonomo.

Worre obviously wasn’t the only casualty of the 14 players to return. Also hitting the rail on Day 2 were Paul Jager, Alex Foxen, Mikita Badziakouski, Seth Davies, Ben Tollerene, Chris Brewer, Jason Koon, and Cary Katz.

‘Kid Poker’ is back at it again. After a rough summer, where he documented losses of more than $1.1 million, GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu has a chance to make it all back and then some as he leads the final 14 players heading into the penultimate day in the Super High Roller Bowl VII at the PokerGO Studio from the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Negreanu needs no introduction to those in the poker world and is a household name even with those not living and breathing poker on a daily basis. The Canadian has amassed nearly $47 million in live tournament earnings as tracked by The Hendon Mob while also laying claim to six World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelets. Negreanu, who is active on social media including many Tweet and Vlogs, is only behind the once controversial Justin Bonomo and the recently controversial Bryn Kenney in total career poker tournament earnings.

Negreanu’s Delivers Massive Cooler to Kenney

The Super High Roller Bowl VII is a three-day no-limit texas hold’em affair with a whopping $300,000 buy-in. A total of 24 players entered the action with a starting stack of 300,000.

Daniel Negreanu Coolers Bryn Kenney at the SHRB VII
Daniel Negreanu Coolers Bryn Kenney at the SHRB VII

Negreanu performed the best by nearly quintupling his starting stack to 1,499,000 but did have some help along the way in a hand against Kenney. Some of you might be asking why Kenney was allowed to play considering a handful of others accused of cheating were banned from some big events recently, but we will leave this for now for social media to chime in on whether he should or should not be banned.

Perhaps it was karma for those that feel Kenney should have been banned from playing as near the start of Day 1, he woke up with aces and flopped a set on an ace-four-five flop according to the PokerGO Tour blog. Kenney bet small and Negreanu came along for the ride with pocket treys. Negreanu then improved to an inferior set after a trey hit the turn and this time Kenney called a small bet by Negreanu. The case trey spiked the river to improve Negreanu to quad-treys. Negreanu three-bet jammed and Kenney was on the rail after he called while Negreanu continued to accumulate chips to end the day with the chip lead.

Meanwhile, Mikita Badziakouski also bagged a seven-figure stack on Day 1 with 1,105,000 in chips while Justin Bonomo (936,000) more than tripled his opening stack and Nick Petrangelo (746,000) more than doubled his starting stack. Orpen Kisacikoglu (590,000), Andrew Lichtenberger (436,000), Paul Jager (424,000), and Alex Foxen (323,000) will kick off Day 2 with more than a starting stack.

Eric Worre (259,000), Chris Brewer (224,000), Seth Davies (223,000), Ben Tollerene (165,000), Cary Katz (122,000), and Jason Koon (56,000) all have their work cut out for them as they enter the second day with less than a starting stack.

Nine other players in addition to Kenney entered the Super High Roller Bowl but have nothing to show for it by the end of the first day including Talal Shakerchi, Michael Addamo, Adrian Mateos, Stephen Chidwick, Bill Klein, Ike Haxton, David Peters, Dan Smith, and Sean Winter.

The action will resume on Thursday, October 6 at noon PT with the live stream kicking off at PokerGO an hour later with hole cards exposed. Blinds will begin at 3,000/6,000 along with a big blind of 6,000 and increase every 75 minutes.

With poker so immensely popular in Europe, where the online sector continued to evolve and ultimately prosper during the problem years in the US caused by the implications of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) is now an established feature, and an event well worth being a part of. Whether you’re a tournament veteran or fancy a shot at glory and megabucks, read on…

The prestigious 2022 WSOP Europe will be held at the King’s Resort in Rozvadov, Czech Republic – one of the world’s leading poker venues – from October 26 until November 16. With the stifling effect of the COVID pandemic no longer a major problem, and restrictions on players from the US lifted, event organisers will no doubt be optimistic about the future health of the game.

Good luck, and have fun at WPT Global!

They say that in London, you wait ages for a bus to come along, then three arrive all at once. The last time the European Poker Tour hit London was eight years ago, and it’s back with a bang and making up for lost time with a veritable extravaganza. If you were waiting for tournaments on the scale of the EPT, your wait has ended, thanks to PokerStars continuing the popular EPT by staging the next leg in the UK’s capital.

Park Lane is one of the top properties on the UK version of Monopoly for a reason, and those taking part in EPT London will be aware of that when enjoying the luxurious surroundings of the venue, namely the Hilton Park Lane. Between 18-28 October we can expect a host of big names from the great and the good of the poker world. Note that this festival also incorporates the UK & Ireland Poker Tour event, which runs on October 18-22.

Be There or Be Square

You can be part of this fantastic EPT stop by qualifying at PokerStars via a comprehensive and bankroll-friendly real money poker satellites set-up. There’s even a Steps route for Sit & Go fans. What better way to find yourself in the £5,300 buy-in Main Event tournament (October 22-28) than getting in for peanuts? The full EPT and UKIPT schedules are a feast of poker and life-changing sums are sure to be made…

Win a $30,000 Platinum Pass

Every online qualifier for EPT or UKIPT London will also earn a place in a live ‘all-in shootout’ Flipout Freeroll tournament on October 22, with the winner bagging a sought-after Platinum Pass worth $30,000.
Meanwhile, another Platinum Pass is going to be awarded in the £3,000 buy-in EPT Platinum Pass Mystery Bounty which is scheduled to take place on October 24-26. As the name of the event suggests, the Platinum Pass will be hidden in one of the mystery bounty envelopes…

You don’t have to be a top player to make a profit from online poker. In fact, at Americas Cardroom you don’t even have to play in a tournament to make money from it! That’s thanks to their Staking facility, which allows you to buy a stake of a player’s action in a Multi-Table Tournament. You can also sell a portion of yours!

Of course, poker fans enjoy playing poker, but it’s also fun to follow the fortunes of others, especially when we have a vested interest in their success. Staking someone affords us the luxury of being part of the action of a multi-table tournament when we might not have the time (or even the inclination) to play ourselves.

Meanwhile, it can also be a worthwhile venture to be staked by others, as this lowers cost and, in turn, variance.

How to Stake Another Player

Click the Staking button in the Main Lobby of the Americas Cardroom poker client and find (top left) the list of tournaments that allow staking. Selecting a tournament reveals the players offering staking, and here you’ll find all the relevant info, such as the percentage being sold (max 90%), how much remains and so on.

Simply enter the percentage for which you wish to stake the player for that tournament, check how much that will cost you, click Buy and you’re good to go! Note that staking percentages are approved 1% increments every five minutes, thus giving other players time to join in the process.

Americas Cardroom. Lobby view.

Note that if a player unregisters for a tourney you staked, you receive a full refund. There’s even a special Spin to Stake feature that means you can Spin to Win a Staking percentage!

How to Get Staked

Again, this is an easy process. Find the tournament you wish to be staked in, click on Sell Action and enter the percentage you’d like to sell plus the number of entries you plan on making. Note that in order to be staked with a markup over 1 it’s necessary to be verified and agree to use your real name.

So, there you have it – the thrills and spills of Real Money Poker tournaments and the chance of a tasty profit, all without having to play a hand yourself!

The Festival Series has been all the rage since its first event last year in the heart of the Slovakian capital of Bratislava at Banco Casino when players got to witness dozens of poker events along with unique casino events including Blackjack, Roulette, and Sports Wagering Main Events. The inclusion of non-poker events generates a more recreational vibe for the poker events while also exposing poker players to casino games in a game-theory environment.

The momentum continued during The Festival Series Tallinn over the summer where hundreds of new players were exposed to the budding and quickly growing poker and casino tour. Next week, The Festival Series returns to where it all began in Bratislava for what will be the biggest tour to date.

Not only will the events mentioned all take place, but the 2022 The Festival Series Bratislava €550 Main Event will guarantee a whopping €500,000 prize pool. For the first time, PokerListings will live report the Main Event while providing some highlights for the casino and side events. While this might be a first for PokerListings, it is far from the first for its Live Reporting and English Content Manager Jason Glatzer who has reported both the previous The Festival Series Main Events. Glatzer, who is the voice behind the On The Road with PokerListings by Jason Glatzer podcast will also be recording podcast episodes with exciting poker and industry guests throughout the week.

Glatzer recently sat down for a podcast with The Festival Series founder Martin “Franke” von Zweigbergk to discuss some of the excitement surrounding the event.

“Now we do our third event in total and our second in Bratislava with a half a million guarantee for a €550 buy-in,” von Zweigbergk shared on the podcast. “Yeah, it’s crazy. It’s the biggest guarantee in Slovakian history.”

While PokerListings will provide highlights from the casino and side events, its primary focus will be the poker highlight of the festival in the €500,000 guaranteed The Festival Series Bratislava €550 Main Event. The event boasts five opening flights from Oct. 11-14, each boasting 40-minute blind levels except the final opening flight which is a turbo-charged affair with 20-minute blind levels.

Players will have tons of chances to build a monster stack thanks to each opening flight allowing for two re-entries. If this is not enough, players can either enter or re-enter during the first two levels of Day 2 on Oct. 15 where blind levels are increased to 45 minutes each. Those surviving Day 2 will return for one more day of action on Oct. 16 where the poker Main Event winner will be crowned.

While covering this event in detail, PokerListings will also provide updates on some of the bigger side events throughout its Main Event coverage.

The Festival Series Main Event History

Martin Mauthner
Martin Mauthner

The Festival Series is a relatively new tour yet is already squeezing in its third event in about a year with the inaugural event taking place at Banco Casino Bratislava at the end of September 2021. The inaugural Main Event provided tons of excitement with former EPT poker dealer Martin Mauthner agreeing to a three-way deal with an unlit cigarette hanging out of his mouth during the entire final table before going on to win the event for €47,600.

A few months ago, Eirik Kristiansen won an even bigger prize of €56,100 when he shipped The Festival Series Tallinn Main Event.

The prize pools for both tournaments weren’t close to the €500,000 guarantee for the upcoming The Festival Series Bratislava Main Event. However, but the opportunist entrepreneur von Zweigbergk feels the guarantee will be surpassed with many hotels already sold out. That being said, there are still some rooms available at some hotels nearby. Head to The Festival Series website for more details.

Amazing Hospitality Package

The Festival Series founder von Zweigbergk also co-founded the popular Cash Game Festival, which became recognized around the world as a fun event for cash game players. The vibe is always amazing in any event organized by von Zweigbergk. This isn’t just due to the helpful and friendly staff and the innovative ideas such as rake-free flips and casino tournaments as those that qualify for packages online will be included in the famous Hospitality Package.

While the activities for this event have yet to be announced, rest assured that there will be amazing parties and other activities curated by von Zweigbergk and his team.

While you can purchase the Hospitality package directly at The Festival Series website, you can potentially get it for free with satellites for packages still running at some of the more than a dozen online partners of The Festival Series.

The Festival Bratislava Schedule

The Festival Series Bratislava schedule has something for everyone. Not only is there a full catalog of no-limit hold’em events, but players that enjoy other formats will be pleased to learn there is something for them too with plenty of events in other poker variants as well. This is on top of the many casino events including Blackjack, Roulette, Sports Wagering, and Slots events.

PokerListings will also keep a close eye on the €250 PokerListings Championship on Friday, Oct. 14.

There’s a reason why bricks & mortar poker rooms tend to have big screens placed on the walls showing live football matches – poker players love sport, football in particular. Now partypoker have harnessed this passion in their Football Full House promotion, which aims to reward your football prediction skills with prizes up to £/€5,000 in hard cash! And it’s completely free to take part.

How It Works

The ultimate aim is to correctly predict the scores of five selected football matches to see your bankroll boost to the tune of thousands. And you can have a fresh bite of the cherry every week during the football season, right until the end of May 2023. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. The promotion is called Football Full House (FFH) but you don’t need a perfect record to get your hands on a prize. Even one correct score is enough for a reward.

FFH Leaderboard

Just by submitting your Football Full House predictions you qualify for a place on the monthly FFH Leaderboard, which has a £/€/$1,000 cash prize pool. Correctly predicting the exact score in a match earns 3 points, while if you manage to predict the result but nit the exact score you still rack up 1 point towards your tally.

Those players who finish at the top of the Leaderboard each month will share the £/€/$1,000 cash and, if you’re the outright winner, you get to pocket the lot!

Don’t Forget to Brush Up on Your Football Knowledge

Given that this is a long-running promotion that costs nothing to take part in and pays out every week, it’s worth giving it a go. Football Full House revolves around England’s Premier League but key European fixtures will also feature. Note that the more you take part, the more rewards you can earn via partypoker’s Milestone Achievements!

Here’s how the FFH payouts work:

  • Correctly predict 5 correct scores to win £/€5,000 Cash.
  • Correctly predict 4 correct scores to win £/€100 in Free Bets.
  • Correctly predict 3 correct scores to win a £/€10 Free Bet.
  • Correctly predict 2 correct scores to win a $5 SPINS Ticket.
  • Correctly predict 1 correct score to win 5 Casino Free Spins.

Free Bets must be used within seven days of being credited to your account and are eligible for any sports market. What are you waiting for? Get your football pundit hats on and be ready with your winning predictions…

GGPoker is deservedly one of the online poker rooms that the vast majority of today’s poker fans would call the most forward-thinking, user-friendly and innovative. There are numerous nice touches at this popular site that are aimed at making the overall experience that bit more special. The SnapCam feature is one such, for instance, with players able to record themselves and share the videos of up to 15 seconds with the other players at their table.

Of course, these are great ‘extras’ but, crucially, the main attraction has to be the games themselves, from Cash Games and their numerous variants and formats to exciting Sit & Go tournaments, as well as a comprehensive multi-table tournament offering and generous prize pools and jackpots and so on to match.

Best of Both Worlds

With this in mind, GGPoker has combined two player favourites – the Bounty concept and the lure of juicy jackpots – to create the exciting Bounty Jackpot. As if real money poker Bounty tournaments at GGPoker weren’t enough of a thrill, now the rollercoaster ride has been given even more zip – every time you pick up a bounty you earn the chance at the jackpot.

How It Works

When checking out the tournament schedule for progressive Bounty events (including Battle Royale), see if it has a Bounty Jackpot in the Tournament Information, and you’re good to go once you join. Whenever you manage to eliminate an opponent, you automatically get a 1 in 100 chance of winning a share of the Bounty Jackpot – even a Mega Bounty! (See below).

The size of a Bounty Jackpot is determined by a combination of random chance and the buy-in level, a fixed jackpot fee that is collected from every bounty reward contributing to the jackpot.

The Mega Bounty Jackpot

GGPoker doesn’t do things by halves, as they say, so to add even more spice to the mix they’ve made it so that each Bounty Jackpot has the potential to be a Mega Bounty. This is where the numbers reach nosebleed – even life-changing – proportions, because hidden among the bounties are Mega Bounty Jackpots of $10,000, $100,000 or even $1,000,000 to be won. Yes – knocking a player out of a tournament in the most ordinary way could make you a millionaire…

You can check out your Bounty Jackpot history in both your Pokercraft hand history and your Balance History, and the biggest 20 Bounty Jackpot wins from the previous week can be found by clicking on the Bounty Jackpot information in the tournament window. How much will you win for sending the opposition to the virtual rail?

If you’ve not yet joined GGPoker, then it’s about darn time you did, cowboy (or cowgirl…), and take advantage of the latest poker bonus offer.

Have fun, and look out for the Mega Bounty!

It’s great to see that online poker is looking healthy across the globe, including the United States, where Pokerstars is giving home players the chance to earn coveted Platinum Passes via ‘Road’ to PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) events.

There’ll be numerous live events being held around the US in the coming months, with poker fans battling it out to win a Platinum Pass to the PSPC in the Bahamas in January 2023. Who wouldn’t want to win their way to an elite big money event with the sun and sea thrown in?

PokerStars Platinum Passes in Pennsylvania

A bit of alliteration is catchy in drawing attention, but the attraction to players of upcoming events across Pennsylvania in October is clear.

Here are the next three tournament events in the region to be hosted by PokerStars:

  • October 8-9 $200 buy-in Women’s Event at Live! Casino – Philadelphia, PA
  • October 13-16 $360 buy-in, $200k GTD Main Event at Live! Casino – Philadelphia, PA
  • October 27-30 $360 buy-in at Live! Casino Pittsburgh – Greensburg, PA

Each event will have up for grabs a Platinum Pass worth a tasty $30,000! The pass includes:

  • Buy-in to the $25,000 PSPC
  • Six nights’ hotel accommodation for the winner and a guest in a 5-star hotel
  • Airport transfer
  • $1,900 in expenses
  • Exclusive Platinum Pass Winner experiences during the event

Note that the Road to PSPC event at Live Casino Philadelphia will see players not only fighting for a Platinum Pass but also for a share of the Main Event prize pool, which is a guaranteed $200,000!

TEAM US: Latest

Of course, it’s also possible to win your way to the Bahamas playing real money poker online at PokerStars. Recently, the top 500, 300 and 200 players in Philadelphia (PA), Michigan (MI) and New Jersey (NJ) respectively from the leaderboard of the prestigious Championship of Online Poker (COOP) gained entry to a Freeroll for a shot at a sought-after Platinum Pass.

The following players managed to get their hands on a package to the Bahamas:

  • Barrett Lipkin (PA)
  • Joseph Nicholas (PA)
  • Scott Brown (MI)
  • Jason Brown (MI)
  • Ramon Liriano (NJ)
  • Corey Hersch (NJ)

Finally, the same leaderboard format will see a further Freeroll in October, with a player from each state joining the ranks as a US winner heading off to the delightful Bahamas in January 2023. Will you be next?

Denmark’s Henrik Juncker defeated Sweden’s Mats Karlsson in a heads-up battle of Scandinavians on a small island to win the 2022 Unibet Open Malta €1,100 Main Event for €75,000 at Casino Malta.

The €75,000 haul was the largest cash for Juncker, whose previous biggest cash coincidentally also came at a Unibet Open Main Event. Back in 2014, Juncker also came close to winning the Unibet Open Denmark DKr 8,250 Main Event but lost the heads-up battle to eventual champion and fellow Dane Theis Hennebjerre to collect the DKr 425,000 ($64,632).

Largest Unibet Open in Malta

The Unibet Open has been visiting the island of Malta for more than a decade dating back to 2011 when Mateusz Moolhuizen navigated through a field of 293 entries to win the €117,000 top prize. While Moolhuizen collected the largest Unibet Open Main Event prize in the five visits to Malta, this was not due to the field size but rather that the buy-in was €1,650 back then as opposed to €1,100.

The 2022 Unibet Open set a Malta attendance record for the tour with 359 entries entering this no-limit hold’em affair to generate a €359,000 prize pool. Martin Soukup (2016 – €65,000), Daniel Jacobsen (2018 – €60,090), and Alan Carr (2019 – €53,400) also have found Unibet Open glory in Malta.

Final Table Action

Mats Karlsson began the live-streamed final table with the chip lead with eventual champion Henrik Juncker not too far behind in second place.

Early on, two of the short stacks got tangled up in a hand. Raymond Wheatley jammed for about 10 big blinds with nine-seven suited and was on the first final table player on the rail after Tal Sardal called with ace-queen suited and the board ran blank.

The lead bounced back and forth between Karlsson, Juncker, and Serdar Demircan both before and after Karlsson sent Samuele Lo Presti to the rail in eighth place when his queens held against ace-queen.

Demircan temporarily snagged the lead again after his eights held against ace-eight to eliminate Sardal in seventh place but Juncker quickly won a hand off Demircan shortly after to regain the captain’s seat.

Shortly after, Demircan was at it again. This time, he won a flip with big slick against tens to oust Daniel Illingworth in sixth place. Juncker then padded his chip lead by winning a flip of his own when his treys were good against queen-eight suited to send Rain Mölderkivi packing in fifth place.

Karlsson managed to take the lead back during four-handed play but this was not to last as a big hand took place that ended Demircan’s impressive run. It was another coin flip with Demircan with big slick and Juncker with eights. If Juncker lost this flip, there was a good chance the event would end with a different champion. But instead, Demircan bricked the board and Juncker took the lead once again.

Rene Kuhlman found himself down to just four big blinds during three-handed play when he jammed with nine-eight. Karlsson called with king-five suited while Juncker came along for the ride with queen-seven. All three players bricked the board and Karlsson won the pot with his king kicker to eliminate Kuhlman.

Juncker began heads-up play with a 3:2 chip advantage before quickly extending it to a 4:1 chip advantage. It wasn’t over from there as Karlsson mounted a comeback and temporarily took the chip lead. Juncker then doubled through Karlsson when his sevens were good against king-nine suited and the stacks were around the same as the start of heads-up play before the final hand took place.

The final hand with blinds at 100,000/200,000 began simply enough with Juncker limping with Q 4 and Karlsson checking back his option from the big blind with J 2 . The Q 7 6 flop already created action with Juncker holding top pair and Karlsson with a flush draw. Karlsson check-raised from 200,000 to 700,000 and Juncker called.

The Q turn improved Juncker further to trip queens. Karlsson fired out for a cool 1,000,000 and Juncker called. Karlsson was unable to complete his flush draw with instead the 6 river completing the board. He tried to steal it away with a jam for 2,200,000 but his timing was off with Juncker calling with his rivered full house to win the coveted trophy.

Congrats to Henrik Juncker for his epic win in the 2022 Unibet Open Malta Main Event. The action doesn’t stop at Casino Malta as the 2022 Battle of Malta began straight after the conclusion of the Unibet Open. Likewise, while the Unibet Open is over, players at Unibet Poker can still qualify for another amazing event in The Festival Series Bratislava from Oct. 10-16 featuring the €500,000 guaranteed The Festival Series Bratislava €550 Main Event.

Lithuania’s Deividas Daubaris defeated France’s Adrien Guyon heads-up in the 2022 Winamax Open Bratislava €500 Main Event to win a cool €120,000 and the coveted trophy.

This was easily the biggest haul for Daubaris, who more than doubled his winnings with the six-figure win. His biggest win came in the summer when he took third place behind poker legends Alex Foxen and Sergi Reixach in the Aria High Roller Summer Series Event #8: $10,000 No Limit Hold’em for $36,800.

The fun six-max festival also set two big records thanks to the 2,221 entries generating a €977,240 prize pool. This was the largest in Winamax Open history with the previously record-holding tournament taking place also this year when the 2022 Winamax Open Spain attracted 2,182 entries for a €960,080 prize pool. Meanwhile, the €977,240 prize pool is also the largest in Slovakian poker history. Although, it is possible that the Slovakian record will be short-lived with the €500,000 guaranteed The Festival Series Bratislava €550 Main Event just around the corner.

Final Day Action

The final day began with just 14 hopefuls remaining. France’s Clement Bonnatt began with the chip lead with eventual winner Daubaris in ninth place. While fortunes were high for Daubiris, the opposite was the case for Bonnatt who witnessed his stack fall apart before eventually hitting the rail in 12th place when his ace-four suited didn’t get there against Guyon’s nines.

Stefan Baczynskyj made some waves just before the official final table began when his aces were good to double against the queens held by Igor Mataruga. Lionel Muggeo was also in the cooler of a hand with eights and hit the rail in eighth place after Baczynskyj was able to lay claim to his chips.

Baczynskyj began the seven-player unofficial final table with a slim lead over Guyon and Daubaris was sitting comfortably in fourth place with nearly 30 big blinds. However, fortunes changed by the time Romain Semler with ace-ten suited eliminated Nicolas Tytgat in seventh place with Daubiris starting the official table in last place of the final six remaining contenders.

That all quickly changed with Daubaris nearly taking the chip lead when his aces were good against Baczynskyj’s king-ten to double his stack. Shortly after, Semler snagged the chip lead when his jacks won a flip to eliminate Igor Mataruga with ace-queen.

Guyon then went on a tear. First, he ousted Nacho Barbero to take the chip lead when his big slick remained strong against jack-ten. He then extended his lead further and had nearly half the chips in play to start three-handed action after he eliminated Baczynskyj with nines against ace-deuce suited.

The chip lead bounced between all three players before Guyon came back to hold more than half the chips in play. Daubaris was nearly able to even the stacks up to commence the heads-up action after his ace-nine suited won a flip against fives to eliminate Semler on the podium in third place.

Guyon extended his lead to a 4:1 chip advantage before Daubaris came storming back to not only take the lead but also eventually hold a 4:1 chip advantage himself before the final hand took place.

The final hand began with Guyon jamming for more than six big blinds with ace-nine suited. Daubaris called with king-six and he quickly pulled far ahead after flopping two pair. Guyon got no love from the rest of the board and settled for the healthy runner-up prize of €88,000.

Meanwhile, a huge congrats to Deividas Daubaris for winning the dual record-breaking 2022 Winamax Poker Open €500 Main Event for €120,000.

WPT Global continues to deliver… Enormous prize pools in real money poker events (both online and live) have not only become almost expected, but even taken for granted, and to the point that we no longer even raise an eyebrow when a tournament has, for example, $1,000,000 up for grabs. In fact, a typical weekend wouldn’t be typical without these numbers.

Yet when we compare such payouts with sporting events the results consistently point to poker being the big daddy of prize money, and the game really deserves more credit for maintaining the global popularity it enjoys. Speaking of ‘global’, by hitting the tables at WPT Global you can give yourself a chance to qualify for THE big money live tournament event that will see 2022 end with a bang, namely the $15 Million Guarantee WPT World Championship which be hosted at Wynn Las Vegas in December.

Satellite Your Way to Glory for $5

Satellites really are poker’s greatest leveller! By providing a means via which players with even the most modest bankrolls can win a route to megabucks events, these everyman qualifiers effectively level the playing field and make what would otherwise be inaccessible tournaments totally accessible. Let’s not forget that the guaranteed $15 Million affords the WPT World Championship record book status, so the fact that recreational players can find themselves sitting down to play in Vegas for life-changing sums is testament to poker’s literally being the ultimate global game.

How It Works

The qualification set-up at WPT Global – the Official International Online poker Home of the 2022 WPT World Championship – revolves around the so-called step-satellites process, where players can start with an investment (in this case) as low as $5 and work their way up the ladder to the final phase: $550 Mega Satellites that run every Saturday until 27 November.

The aim is to win a fantastic, bumper Passport Package that includes the following:

  • $10,400 entry to the WPT World Championship
  • $2,000 travel stipend
  • WPT Global merchandise
  • A special WPT Global Player Experience during the WPT World Championship

Simply try your luck in a $5 step-satellite to bag a ticket for the $55 stage which, in turn, is where you win entry to a Saturday $550 Mega Satellite. Alternatively, you can buy straight in at any level, including the $550, and the $5 and $55 Steps are running daily throughout the qualifying period.

If recent developments in the world of real money poker online are anything to go by, it seems that everyone and his/her dog in Ontario seems to be a poker player. The PokerStars launch in the Canadian province in June afforded poker fans living in the region the top quality Stars offering enjoyed by so many around the world, but with a ‘home’ feel.

One such combination, the Ontario Platinum Series, paid out $1M in prizes, and next up, the inaugural PokerStars Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP), will boast twice that amount – a cool $2M in guaranteed prize money.

Taking place from 1-17 October, this series features a total of 132 tournaments during the action-packed 17-day long poker frenzy, and will no doubt be seen by Ontario’s poker players as a fantastic opportunity.

Poker for All Bankrolls

In line with the PokerStars ethos – particularly more noticeable in recent years – of giving all players maximum chances to have a taste of tournaments with juicy prize pools (not forgetting bragging rights), a wide range of buy-ins guarantees that there’s something for everyone. And, of course, thanks to a comprehensive roster of satellites, it’s possible to qualify for tournaments that recreational players might not usually find themselves taking part in, the most notable during ONCOOP being the $500 buy-in $200,000 GTD Main Event, which takes place on Sunday 16 October. Note that at the same time there’s a $50 buy-in ‘Low’ Main event edition with a $40,000 guarantee.

The future’s certainly looking bright for Ontario residents…

*Any mention of a bonus or discussion of such terms is not in relation to the province of Ontario.

When it comes to tournament poker these days, purists might still look down on the rebuy format, preferring instead the more sober Freezeouts. And to some extent they have a point (albeit, one could argue, it ultimately boils down to taste) in that, given only the one ‘life’ in which to invest ourselves, a more circumspect – and, therefore, arguably more accurate – strategy and approach is required.

The Sunday Squeeze

Thanks to the impressive schedule of Sunday events at Americas Cardroom it’s possible to enter into battle with fellow poker fans in a real money poker $50,000 GTD Freezeout tournament, namely the $10.50 buy-in Sunday Squeeze.

A welcome feature at Americas Cardroom that takes into account how online poker is a truly global game, is the policy of putting on Day 1 Flights for big tournaments that cater for everyone, whichever time zone they happen to live in. The Sunday Squeeze has a total of 80(!) Day 1 flights each week, with the Day 2, the business end of proceedings, taking place on Sundays.

Note that all Flights have a run-time of just three hours, and even Day 2 tends to last around only five hours – perfect for the recreational looking to fit a quality tournament experience into a busy week!

Americas Cardroom. Sunday mania.

Of course, the Sunday Squeeze is just event during a packed Sunday Mania tournament schedule. And if other forms of poker are your thing, there’s no shortage of poker entertainment on the menu at Americas Cardroom, from a variety of Cash Game formats to action-packed Sit & Crush games and million-dollar jackpots… It’s easy to see why one of this appealing poker room’s taglines is ‘Why would you play poker anywhere else?’
