The rumors, it turns out, are true.

Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the world's best footballers and an international sports icon, announced today he has officially signed on as a brand ambassador for PokerStars.

He did it in spectacular form as well, posting the following short clip to his Twitter account that has an astonishing 35.8m followers.

He posted the same message on Facebook where he has an even more incredible 103 million fans.

Joins Neymar Jr., Nadal to Promote Poker

PokerStars adds another international superstar to its roster that already includes tennis legend Rafael Nadal and Brazilian footballers Neymar Jr. and Ronaldo.

His overall role is as a "brand ambassador," helping to introduce and promote poker to a gigantic audience yet to discover the game. He will be promoting PokerStars in ad campaigns and will "make special appearances at major live poker events and online poker tournaments."

One event already planned for 2015 will give fans a chance to meet and challenge him at the poker table. He'll also play on PokerStars under the user ID C.Ronaldo.

Speaking about his new deal Ronaldo says:

"I love to play poker. It's a fantastic game to play with friends, with family, with everyone.

"And to challenge the best players in poker to me it's surprising. It will be fun. I'm really proud to be part of the team."

"I started playing poker a few years ago," he added, "and I love the competition, strategy and fun. I'm looking forward to taking my game to the online and live poker tables and meeting my fans head to head.

"Although football is my world, poker has always been my game."
