Just one trans-oceanic flight stands in the way of us and the 2010 WSOP Europe and our bags are packed and ready to go!
The WSOPE is always big. We’ve been there every year since its introduction in 2007 and it’s never failed to deliver. Annette Obrestad, John Juanda and Barry Shulman all have main event bracelets on their wrists and the prelims have seen a long line of big names securing WSOP Euro-gold.
Last year’s WSOPE main event final table was one of the best we’ve ever seen, headlined by Daniel Negreanu.
Antoine Saout and James Akenhead were both members of the November Nine at the time and of the final nine players, six were previous WSOP bracelet winners. PokerListings pro-blogger Jason Mercier finished fourth and wrote all about it on our site.
The heads-up match was ridiculous. Negreanu had eliminated six of the seven players and had a dominating lead. He got it in bad with J-Q against Shulman’s pocket aces but managed to flop a jack and turn trips.
Meanwhile, I was trying to push my way through the crush of people jammed into the Empire Casino, unable to see the final table and sure that when I emerged I would be confronted with a victorious Negreanu.
I didn’t need to see the screens to know an ace had hit. It was obvious by the crowd’s reaction all around me.
Shulman went on to win and we all died a little inside.
This year we’ll be doing it all over again and we’re expecting big things. They’ve added a £10,000 Heads-Up event which should be pretty good.
Here’s the schedule.
- Event 1: £2,500 Six Handed NLH (3 day event) - September 14-17
- Event 2: £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha (3 day event) - September 16-18
