POLi Poker & Top Poker Sites That Accept POLi Deposits

POLi is an online poker payment method only available right now to poker players in Australia and New Zealand. That might change in the future but for now it’s only the privileged few in the Southern Hemisphere that can take advantage of POLi’s virtually free, smooth transactions online.

What makes POLi so great as an online poker deposit method is that it directly interfaces with your bank account and doesn't require you to use a credit or debit card online. It's super secure, fast and transparent making POLi poker deposits a snap. POLi is an online payment method developed in Australia back in 2006.

Technically speaking, it "facilitates a Pay Anyone internet banking payment from your bank account to a merchant." In this case the merchant is an online poker site and your online poker account there.  POLi Payments is now a fully owned subsidiary of Australia Post and has a home office in Melbourne.

How Does POLi Work for Online Poker Deposits?

Rather than having a separate account at a third-party processor that requires a different user name and password to remember (and protect), POLi makes things ultra simple by connecting directly (and securely) to your bank account.

If you have an account at a bank that provides POLi services you can use it at any number of online merchants, poker sites included.

POLi Poker Sites: FAQ

  • How Do I Make an Online Poker Deposit with POLi?

To make a POLi poker deposit simply log in to your online poker account and navigate to the "cashier" page. Select POLi from the payment methods menu and you'll be directed to the secure POLi page that connects to your bank's website. Log directly in to your bank account and select the amount you want to transfer. Complete the transaction by clicking send and you'll likely see the money arrive in your online poker account balance virtually immediately. Any transfers under $500 will be processed immediately; payments over $500 may take over a day or two to finally arrive in your online poker account.
  • Are POLi Poker Deposits Secure?

Yes, although you should take some very basic security precautions to protect your account from phishing and fraud. POLi deposits themselves use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) which is an encrypted link directly between a web server and your browser. An SSL certificate makes sure you're dealing directly with your bank. All POLi transactions are monitored and protected from fraud and phishing. Your entire transaction is secure from start to finish and your bank details are never saved by the online poker site. You are, however, using your online bank password to transfer money so you should be very cautious to only use POLi on a safe and secure computer.
  • How Much Does it Cost to Use POLi?

POLi itself provides its services for free. It says directly in its FAQs that its mission is to make paying with POLi free for consumers. To that end it encourages all of its merchants to waive any fees. Any online poker sites that offer POLi typically waive all fees for depositing via POLi.
  • Can I Withdraw Funds from my Poker Account Via POLi?

No, unfortunately not. POLi is a deposit-only method as of yet.
  • Can I Use POLi Outside of Australia or New Zealand?

Not yet. Currently those are the only two countries where POLi poker is available but they do say they intend to expand outside of those two territories in the future.
  • What's the Difference Between POLi & eCheques?

If you're looking to deposit at an online poker site without using a third-party payment processor - ie you want to deposit directly from your bank account rather than set up another intermediary account via Neteller, Skrill or Paypal, for example - you have a few options. You can set up a bank transfer, which is a pretty common means of transferring money, but it's not exactly the quickest means you can find. eCheques are also a common method which only needs your bank information but this also takes time and money. eCheques usually take a few days to process and you'll pay a fee to use them. POLi payments and transfers, on the other hand, have no fees. And they work virtually instantly.
  • Can I Use POLi to Deposit on PokerStars?

In August 2017 the Australian Senate passed the Interactive Gambling Amendment Bill into law which effectively shut down all online poker sites not licensed under Australian State or Territory law. That means PokerStars is effectively off-limits to Australian poker players except for play-money games. Australian players were still able to access their accounts and withdraw all of their money prior to real-money play going offline but there's no exact date for when it might return. Should PokerStars be able to have a local license restored all prior and new poker accounts for Australian players should be easily re-activated and POLi will resume to be an effective payment method. New Zealand poker players, however, are not subject to same restrictions and can continue to use POLi to make online poker deposits on PokerStars. It's not illegal for New Zealanders to gamble over the Internet with providers based in other countries.
  • Can I Use POLi on Mobile?

Yes, POLi is a browser-based payment processor so you can access and use POLi on your mobile phone. Online poker sites with mobile software will have POLi in the drop-down menu if it's a deposit option.
  • Does POLi Have Deposit Limits?

Yes; as mentioned above any transfer over $500 will need to be verified and may take a day or two to arrive. POLi is not available for withdrawals so limits don't apply. Daily deposit limits for each individual poker site also apply.
  • Can I Get a POLi Poker Bonus?

Not likely. Getting an online poker bonus is not usually related to which deposit method you use but there needs to be an agreement between the payment method and the poker site for there to be an exclusive bonus related to your deposit method. At this point we haven't seen any specific bonus offers related to using POLi to fund your account. But that doesn't mean there never will be. Check with your preferred poker site to see if there are any extra incentives to deposit via POLi. To receive one of our exclusive PokerListings sign-up bonuses, be sure to use the proper poker bonus code when you create your account via our review link.
  • Can I Use POLi for US Poker Sites?

Not yet. As mentioned above POLi is currently online available to poker players in Australia and New Zealand who have accounts and the listed banks. Just 3 US states (soon to be 4) have officially licensed and regulated online poker; you can see the list of regulated USA online poker sites here.
