Oscar Arezzo Bags Day 1c Chip Lead

The €500,000 guaranteed Malta Poker Festival (MPF) €550 Grand Final Day 1c field attracted an impressive field of 321 entries at the luxurious Portomaso Casino. This brings the total up to 782 entries with two more flights taking place tomorrow. Therefore, it is no longer whether the guarantee will be met but by how much it will be crushed.

A total of 88 players advanced to Day 2 via Day 1c after 13 blind levels. A total of 114 survivors advanced from the first two opening flights bringing the total number of players finding a bag into Day 2 thus far up to 202 players.

Oscar Arezzo bagged the Day 1c chip lead with 510,000 in chips, but he is still behind both the Day 1b and overall chip leader in Anastasios Apostolou with 539,000 and Day 1a chip leader Daniel Taylor with 519,000.

Just behind Arezzo was Ahmed Ibrahim (503,000), Emanuele Onnis (441,000), and Alessandro Santini (406,000). These were the only players to advance with at least 400,000 in chips.

Other notable players to advance to Day 2 included Sascha Manns (368,000), Uwe Matthias (330,000), Soner Vanelderen (300,000), MPF Spring Grand Event third-place finisher and Hippodrome ambassador Christopher Da Silva (263,000), 2022 PPC Malta champion Oliver Hutchins (224,000), Raoul Van Wersch (206,000), Sylvere Paillot (191,000), Oliver Said (184,000), and Wouter Schuurbiers (78,000).

Unfortunately, Grosvenor Poker ambassador Katie Swift was unable to advance out of the Day 1c field after she had aces cracked twice today. Swift will be hosting the €100 Ladies First! event tomorrow and plans to enter tomorrow's turbo Day 1e field if there is enough time.

The Grand Event is all for the players and is limited to two re-entries per flight. In addition, late registration closes after Level 8 meaning that anyone getting into the action will start with a workable stack and not need to shove straight off the bat in order to gain some breathing room.

Today also boasted a €60 satellite for players looking to get into the Grand Event for pennies on the dollar along with the start of the two-day The Hendon Mob €225 Championship and the €150 Deepstack Fulltilt Catania.

Special Notes About the Turbo Day 1e Field

For players planning to play the Day 1e field, they should be aware that this will play differently than the other opening flights. Not only will the blinds levels increase at a faster pace with 20-minute blind levels, but instead of playing 13 blind levels, the action will conclude when just 26 percent of the field remains.

PokerListings will be back live reporting at the MPF at the start of Day 1d of the MPF Grand Event at 2 p.m. CEST.
