Daily 3-Bet: Viffer Slags Cates, Jaka + Broccoli, PL up to 15

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a treasure trove of M&Ms hidden deep down in the mostly nuts and raisins trail mix of the mid-afternoon poker news world.

As always, you put a suggestion for a future 3-Bet piece in the comments, and you could very well see it published.

Today in the 3-Bet we take a look at the ongoing durrrr/jungleman feud, Jason Mercier and Tobias Reinkemeier getting added to Premier League and the benefits of broccoli.

1) Mercier, Reinkemeier Added to Premier League, May Picks Top 8

Tobias Reinkemeier
Tobias. So hot right now. Tobias.

The partypoker Premier League VI hype train is chugging along with all-star MTTers Jason Mercier and Tobias Reinkemeier the latest additions to the heat-based invite-only tournament.

Both players are new to the Premier League but they certainly have a wealth of tournament experience as Mercier has $8 million in lifetime winnings and Reinkemeier has $5.7 million.

Mercier and Reinkemeier join 13 poker pros that have already been announced including superstars Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari.

Just one more player needs to be added before the official 16-player field is set. Premier League VI is set to begin March 17.

This is the first year the Premier League will be live-streamed so fans will be able to follow along at home.

Jesse May also recently published his top eight picks to make the final table. His list includes the aforementioned Mercier and Reinkemeier, which seem like a good bet. We’re not quite as sold on Phil Laak though.

2) Viffer Comes Out Firing in Jungleman vs. Durrrr

David Peat
David "Viffer" Peat has some words for Dan Cates.

Oh boy.

The Tom Dwan/Dan Cates durrrr Challenge argument is rapidly becoming one of the best feuds in recent poker history.

Earlier this week a frustrated Cates fired an incendiary Tweet at Dwan implying the Full Tilt pro had been delaying the rest of their match (Prior to Black Friday, Dwan was getting steamrolled by Cates and was down $1.2 million in the Challenge).

Dwan responded on Twitter saying that Cates actually owed a certain figure to him.

Well now a third combatant has entered the fray.

The always-vocal David “Viffer” Peat referenced Cates' alleged multi-accounting using the infamous “Girah” account in a Tweet and that set off a series of retorts from Jungleman.

It’s too long to display here but you can see the complete Viffer vs. Jungleman discourse here. You can see the Tweet that started the argument below:

@junglemandan did you and the guys you cheated with chat about it on twitter?— David Peat (@4viffer) March 13, 2013

One thing is certain, if the durrrr Challenge against Cates ever resumes, it will be one of the most controversial, highly-anticipated heads-up matches ever.

Faraz Jaka
Somewhere, Faraz Jaka's mom is extremely proud.

3) The Secret of MTT Success? Broccoli

Jamie Gold eats blueberries at the poker table. Luke Schwartz enjoys a nice pickle and cheese sandwich. Faraz Jaka has them both beat by eating straight-up broccoli while playing cards.

We snapped this shot of Jaka munching a floret of broccoli at EPT London and thought it was amusing enough to share.

It makes sense really as broccoli is high in vitamin C and dietary fiber, which the majority of poker players could no doubt use.

Maybe the WSOP can get a decent broccoli sponsor this year to go along with old standby Jack Links Beef Jerky? They can consult Jaka on that one.

If only your parents had explained that eating broccoli was a key part of crushing MTTs you would have been more likely to finish your plate, right?
