Content Creators in Poker – Brad Owen

Poker has experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years, with record numbers of entrants being set at both physical and online tables around the world.
The access to platforms, such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, has aided this surge in popularity, as newcomers to the game and experienced players can watch and learn from their favorite players and content creators, who play a pivotal role in the game’s development, serving as ambassadors for their brand and the game as a whole.
Let’s take a look at one of the most influential players and mainstays in the content creation game.

The Early Days
Brad Owen has been a lot of newcomers’ starting points when it comes to poker YouTube content creation, and has been the template for many aspiring vloggers, due to a very straightforward and personable approach to content creation.
Before becoming a YouTuber, he obtained a degree in finance and worked a nine-to-five job as an accountant, before quitting to pursue poker full-time. Owen was already playing regularly on the live low-stakes scene.
Owen’s voiceover is distinctive and truly his own. He has even coined words that are used in the common poker lexicon, the main example being “Jiggities”, for pocket jacks. His sarcasm and dry humour quickly became his trademark and were a hit with the viewers.
Also known as “The Giraffe” due to his long neck, Owen posted the first installment into what would become a hugely popular series, Poker Vlog Episode 1, in December 2016.
The vlogs documented Owen’s journey from the low to mid-stakes cash game scene in Vegas, usually involving his commute to the casino as part of the introduction, before a trip to the cage to load up a few racks to take to the tables.
Only 30 episodes into his series, he had a very special episode featuring none other than Phil Hellmuth.
This helped propel Owen to a meteoric rise in views and subscriber count. As his channel grew and the vlogs kept coming, the stakes kept increasing, as he continued to crush the lower stakes.
He built relationships with other vloggers in his formative days, such as Andrew Neeme, a successful player and content creator in his own right.
Owen was upfront and honest about the ups and downs of what it is like to be a professional, with many viewers resonating with the swings and the general grind of the cash game scene.
He rose through the ranks from $⅖ to $5/10 through 2017 and 2018. 2019 and 2020 saw Owen stick to $5/10 as his preferred stake of choice, whilst taking the occasional shot at $10/20.
Nowadays, he is regularly a feature of high-stakes cash game streams, such as Live at the Bike and Hustler Casino Live. He has even come full circle and is the co-owner of The Lodge Card Club in Austin, Texas, with fellow players Doug Polk and Andrew Neemee.
Owen is known for his community engagement, which is one of his most endearing qualities as a creator and ambassador for the game. Even now, he remains active in his YouTube comments section, replying to fans’ questions.
He has also hosted numerous meetup games across America, which saw huge crowds take to the felt, all of whom wanted some “Bradley Dollars.”
Owen is now a household name in the poker content creation streets, and for very good reason. At the time of writing, his subscriber count stands at 783,000.
This has allowed his brand to grow, and in 2022, he gained Ambassadorships with ClubGG and WPT. Owen and Neeme both joined WPT the same year that Hall of Famer Phil Ivey joined the company’s ranks as a fellow Ambassador. That’s quite some company to be in.

For as long as poker continues to be popular, so will Brad Owen. Truly one of the game’s good guys.
