Would rather be grinding Hollywood Park nightlies.

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is yet another gratuitous awards show that hands out super-important awards to three super-important mid-afternoon poker news stories.

You can always pop suggestions for future 3-Bet pieces in the comments section below.

In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at the glorious all-purpose nature of poker chips, Johnny World hitting the pool circuit and Matt Salsburg pontificating on poker over the Emmys.

1) Multipurpose Magic Poker Chips

Chips
Who doesn't love poker chips?

Poker chips are great but they’re generally limited to playing poker, right?

Nope!

Michael Kimble is running a new Kickstarter campaign that uses special poker chips to keep track of stats in Magic: The Gathering with this as the sales pitch:

“FINALLY! A new way to place counters on your permanents in Magic: The Gathering. Slice your dice, I found a new way to play!”

So far he’s got $3 pledged towards a $10,000 goal so he may have bitten off a bit more than he can chew.

Whether or not Kimble’s Kickstarter succeeds it’s a good time to remember all the amazing uses for a poker chip. Such as:

Poker chips are AMAZING.

2) Johnny World Stars in Derby City Classic

Pool/poker fans who have been glued to the Derby City Classic livestream over the last few days may have recognized a familiar face yesterday.

Hey it's three-time WSOP champ Johnny "World" Hennigan!

Of course prior to poker Hennigan was a professional pool player so it really wasn’t that much of a surprise to see him performing some trick shots at the event.

Hennigan got quite unlucky, according to Jean-Robert Bellande who is attending the festival.

It kind of makes sense considering Hennigan’s nickname comes from being willing to bet on anything in the world. Obviously pool is one such activity.

3) Matt Salsberg Passed on Emmys to Play Poker

Not sure if this is 100% true but the always snarky Matt Salsberg just dropped a funny tidbit that describes his love of poker/degeneracy in a conversation he was having with Alexandre Dreyfus.

Of course Dreyfus was trying to get Salsberg to attend the American Poker Awards, which seems a bit unlikely if he actually did skip the Emmys to play poker.

Again, not sure if that’s 100% true but Salsberg’s show Weeds was nominated for an Emmy in 2009. Maybe Dreyfus should include a couple turbo $100 buy-in tournaments just to entice Salsberg.
