Daily 3-Bet: German Swarm, Gus Dupe, durrrr Challenge Go!
October 01, 2013
Even Jungleman can't believe he's playing durrrr right now.
The PokerListings 3-Bet is a cold hefeweizen, a plate of maultaschen and a Heidi Klum poster set out to welcome our German afternoon poker news overlords.
Got a tip for a future 3-Bet? Drop a note in the comments and we'll take a look.
Today in the 3-Bet we find the German invasion of the poker world hitting the front lines of the WCOOP Main Event, Padraig Parkinson recounting another great poker story with Gus Hansen at its center and -- hold on to your hats -- the durrrr Challenge resumes.
1) Germans Go 1-2-3 (and 9) in WCOOP Main, Take $4m+
All your stakes belong to us.
So is no form of poker safe from the Germans any more?
With German high rollers Phillip Gruissem, Tobias Renkemeier, Igor Kurganov and Max Altergott spending this year tearing apart the live high-roller circuit it's pretty much a given Germans are the ones to beat at the highest levels of poker these days.
With Marvin Rettenmaier #1 on the Global Poker Index, it's also pretty clear they've got a firm grip on the standard high-stakes tournament circuit.
So, yeah. Might as well just order the German Rosetta Stone and start boning up on how to say "Welcome to our German Poker Overlords."
2) Padraig Parkinson Tries to Kill Gus Hansen
We've told you how good Padraig Parkinson's poker stories are, right?
He serves up another enjoyable one about trying to submarine Gus Hansen at a WPT Celeb event in his latest blog post. Sitting at a table a bit overwhelmed by Gus's star power, when Gus steps away from the table Parkinson puts in motion a plot to take Gus out:
"Eventually, one of them asked me what I thought was the best way to deal with Gus. I told them that as the event was a bit of a crapshoot it’d be a good idea to move in with any kind of a half decent hand if he raised.
"They asked me if that was what I was going to do and I promptly assured them it was. Gus sat down, raised a pot and one of my men was in like a shot. Gus folded.
"A few hands later, Gus raised again and my troops didn’t let me down. One of them put his chips in the middle like he had a royal flush.
"Gus folded. I was beginning to really enjoy this until it occurred to me that sooner or later somebody might ask when was it going to be my turn. I hadn’t thought of that..."
