Daily 3-Bet: Gamblin’ Messi, Perfectionism Problems, Criminal Cards
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is an epic super fight that will unify all weight classes in the mid-afternoon poker news world.

In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at the poker-loving footballer of the year nominees, the problem with perfectionism in poker and criminal playing cards in China.
1) Lionel Messi = Poker Star?
So how about a poker sponsorship deal for Lionel Messi?
The famed Argentinian striker won Footballer of the Year today. Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr, who are both sponsored by PokerStars, were also nominated.
Would PokerStars ever dream of completing the hat-trick and signing Messi as well? It’s not as far-fetched as you might think.
Messi has already admitted he has a gambler’s approach on the pitch and plays football like a poker player.
Or if PokerStars isn’t interested maybe rival 888poker could take a flyer on Messi and escalate the footballers playing poker phenomenon.
It didn’t work too well with Luis Suarez, thanks to a certain biting incident, but you gotta keep trying right?
2) Pratyush Buddiga and the Danger of Perfectionism
Poker — as a rule — has a habit of making even the smartest people look really, really stupid.
It’s that fear of embarrassment that keeps new players from bluffing or even playing at all.
Pratyush Buddiga, who won the Spelling Bee National Championship title when he was 13 and had some serious poker success more recently, just dropped a new blog this week about how early success can paralyze you and make you afraid to fail:
My entire life and thoughts were (and are, to this day) centered around avoiding the embarrassment of looking stupid. I had to maintain my image of the genius that everyone admired or my world would come crashing down.
…Did people think I was a fraud? Just another sunrunner who got hot for a few tournaments and would fade away like so many others? I woke up every morning thinking about how people must be laughing at me behind my back. "This guy thought he could step up to the elite level of highrollers! Ha, he’s a fraud! He’s only a Timex wannabe!"
It’s a very interesting look at how dangerous perfectionism can be. You can check out the entire thing here.
3) China Prints Criminal Playing Cards
This is… weird.
Police in South China’s Guangxi Zhuong Autonomous Region have printed playing cards with criminals' mugshots in an effort to catch them.
More than 15,000 sets of playing cards have already been created in an effort to raise awareness about the culprits.
Each card has a picture of the cyber-criminal in question and some information about them. There’s also a 2,000 yuan reward for anyone that provides information that leads to an arrest.
No word as to whether there’s an extra bonus for anyone who completes a Royal Flush. Take a close look below:
