Play Poker for a Great Cause – Americas Cardroom Host Charity Tournament
Gone are the days when the mention of poker conjured up images of an exclusively male underworld populated by shady looking men in dark, smoke-filled rooms. Today’s environment, both online and at bricks & mortar venues fosters - in your writer’s humble opinion - an increasingly inclusive, socially positive and all-round impressive atmosphere. Indeed, despite the fact that poker, by definition, revolves around profiting at others’ expense, there’s an air of respect and community (emphasised by the social aspect that non-players might not fully appreciate) for which the game doesn’t receive the credit it deserves.
By way of a testament to the powers of poker away from the tables, Americas Cardroom is hosting an event in support of the United Breast Cancer Foundation. The $55 buy-in, $10,000 GTD Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Tournament takes place on Wednesday 12 October at 4:30pm ET and, given the worthy cause, the more poker fans who take part the better. Furthermore, Americas Cardroom has pledged to make a charity donation to match the final prize pool up to $20,000! Meanwhile, female players will have their buy-in reimbursed 24 hours after the event.
To put into perspective the significance of this tournament and the admirable effort being made by this forward-thinking poker room, as a consequence of the event over 100 women will receive crucial care via the United Breast Cancer Foundation's program services.
