Maple-flavored Version of The Festival Online Set for 888poker Ontario
Ontario online poker players will have a shot at their own version of The Festival Online as the geolocked jurisdiction gets a $100k guaranteed Festival to run alongside the global games.
News of the global version of The Festival Online came out this week with action planned from Mar 19 through Apr 13 from 888poker and partner PokerListings. The year-old segregated market of Ontario, Canada isn’t being left out however, with its own version of The Festival Online playing out in Canada’s most populous province between Apr 2 - Apr 9, 2023.
The Festival Series is a new entry on the live tournament circuit, with the first running in the post-pandemic world of 2021 in Bratislava. The Series is a unique entry in the live tournament scene with all the expected tournament poker action, but the added excitement of casino games and sports-betting tournaments as part of The Festival.
Since then, the live version of the Festival has run in Tallinn and Nottingham and the first-ever running of The Festival Online hit the 888poker lobby in 2022, giving players the chance to play The Festival without leaving their couch. Now, with the announcement of the most recent edition of The Festival Online on the global 888poker client, the operators are extending the series to the new market of Ontario, Canada.
The Festival Online Comes to Canada’s Centre with $100k Guaranteed
The most populous province in the Great White North was fenced off in March 2022, putting its online gaming market inside a ring-fenced zone. That meant that while players in the rest of Canada were still playing on global clients from operators like 888poker, online poker players in Ontario were forced onto their own clients.
This move by The Festival and 888poker to push the series into the new market is the first time Ontario players will have a shot at online Festival glory. The Festival Series Online, Ontario edition, kicks off along with the global version on March 19 with events ranging from $1 to $215.
