Day 1a has been a very international day, unfortunately for Chile there is no more player from their country in the game on Day 1a. Cabrera had to make a call for his tournament life and went deep in the tank, when his opponent put him all-in on the river with a board showing [9x][2x][5x][4x][9x]. After having made the call, he wanted to directly muck his hand and walk off, but the dealer explained he had to show his cards, [5x][6x] for him. Which were no good against the [Ax][3x] of his opponent, which made a wheel on the turn.
From today onwards, there will be Hyper Turbo tournaments on 23:00 CET. Today the tournament is called ‘The Weddes Hyper Turbo’, but we have more Twitch Streamers in Bratislava who represent Coolbet on the online platforms, like Dag Nilsen from Norway!
We will update the blog after the end of the day with all remaining chip counts of this day. For now, we will stay with Day 1a, which is soon entering its last level of the day. Currently 18 players remaining out of 94 entries.
Not even that long ago, Grabics had over 200,000 chips in front of him. Since he switched to another table, we could see all his chips standing in front of his neighbour Jacob Melloul. The player of Israel has got around 16 starting stacks in front of him, which is almost 20% of all chips in play.
We can see that Ylva is doing well for herself in the Main Event 1a with 260.000 chips in front of her. Good friend of her from Norway, Oskar Wedde, is having together with his brother Jonathan, their Hyper Turbo event happening at the moment. Ylva Thorsrud, streaming her online poker with her alias ‘Jevakim’, will have her eyes on reaching day 2 by playing two times average stack at the moment.
The registration has officially closed for Day 1a of the Main Event. Two more levels are left to play, so enough space to build even more mountains. The following players are in the lead of the tournament for now:
We saw a big pot brewing on table number 21, where Hungarian Tamas Grabics was involved in a 3-way pot. After the flop of Q 7 5 , it was chip leader Ohad Freund who chucked in a raise to 35,000 with around 50,000 in the main pot, and 20,000 in the side pot. Grabics went into the tank for a bit and decided to call. On the turn 4 , he then suddenly puts all his chips into the middle, which was approximately 80,000. Freund shaked his head, and folded almost instantly his hand.
When the cards opened up for the showdown, people acted surprised when they saw that Grabics ‘only’ opened up 6 6 . The short stack, Rudolf Kosa, tabled A A and was slightly ahead going into the river. But with the A being given by the dealer as a river, it was a Flush for Grabics and with that he took down the main- and the side pot.
With only 30 players left on Day 1a, and 1,5 blind level still to go for late registration, we will give you the chip counts in the following break. That break will happen after the end of the registration period.
The turbo flight of the Main Event, Day 1b, has kicked off with 13 players so far. They are playing 15-minute levels, and have the same starting stack as every other opening flight. 14 Levels will be played until the remaining players can bag up their chips, to be able to proceed to Day 2.
There are two 45-minute levels left of the registration period. After that, we will continue for two more levels until the remaining players can bag and tag their chips. In general, the atmosphere is great at the remaining tables. People talking and laughing together, very important in such events with a reasonable buy-in and mostly recreational players who come for a small poker holiday here to Bratislava.
Fact: Colo-Colo is a professional football club from Chile, currently in 3rd place in the Chilean Primera Division. Players like Claudio Bravo and Arturo Vidal have played in the past for Colo-Colo.
Freund created a massive chip lead here in Day 1a of the Main Event. Coming fresh from the tv-table, he will now be seated at table number 21 when he will return from the break. Other notable chip counts are mentioned below:
Every evening of this week until Friday, there are turbo flights planned. Today Day 1b will be played out at 21:00 CET. With just 15-minute blind levels, and 14 levels to endure, it will approximately last until 01:15 CET including the breaks.
The PL Omaha tournament had a guaranteed prize pool of just €5,000, and it got absolutely smashed as the total prize pool currently is €21,470! What a great result for the mixed games community. Ironically enough, 11 out of 28 players remaining have a Norwegian flag behind the name.
We just got informed by the floorman that we will play until the end of Level 14 today. All remaining players will be qualified for Day 2. The late registration period goes until the end of level 12.
The Live Stream of the Coolbet Open is ready to go on air soon. In about 15 minutes Day 1a of the Main Event will be visible for the viewers on both Youtube and Twitch. There will be plenty of different events shown on the stream throughout the entire week, with as cherry on the cake, the Final Day of the Coolbet Open Main Event, but also the Coolbet Nations Cup Final.

We are 5 hours into Day 1a of the Main Event, but the big stacks are just to be counted on one hand. The field is overall very much close to each other with their chip counts. Players are enjoying a 40-minute dinner break, before we continue with level 7.
Yet another victim of the table talk of Karev Tralla. With his extreme loose play he will find himself in situations, where his opponents just cannot get away from their hands, when he is using big bet sizings. We arrived at the table when the flop was 2 Q K and there were about 5,000 chips in the pot.
Sturla Hiller leaded the flop with a bet of 3,500 on which Tralla went all-in for 60,000, but not before mentioning to the live reporter that it had to be written down. Once another player went out of the way, the table talk started. This time it came from Hiller as he wanted to know where he was standing. He eventually made the call and was actually in bad shape with his Aces.

Tralla had a trillion outs and with a J on the turn, those outs became even more. Sadly for Hiller, another jack hit the river with the J , giving Tralla three-of-a-kind and the winning hand, and sending Hiller to the rail.
The Coolbet Open has many mixed games on the schedule. The first mixed game of this week is the PL Omaha 8-max with unlimited re-entries. Up to this moment, the popularity of Omaha is proving to be good here. Who will become the first mixed game event Champion of the Coolbet Open 2023?
Coolbet is tremendously big in the online poker market of Norway. With Norwegian influence in the company itself, that’s also not very surprising. Hordes of Norwegians came down to Bratislava to try and collect one of the amazing trophies here at the Coolbet Open. Yesterday we could see that during the PokerListings Deepstack event, the field was 25% Norwegian. One of the players from the country of the Fjords, is Leif Eddy Iversen.
Poker is a very competitive game, where sportsmanship plays a big role as well. Leif is one of those with such exemplary behaviour. Always kind to everyone around him, and always around friends at such poker events. It gives a good impression of this event, whereas Norwegians set the tone, on and off the tables.
In regards of poker results, Leif is doing well for himself with over $50,000 in live career earnings so far. Let’s hope for him, and for Norway, that he will reach far in this Main Event, so he can add another great cash to his name.
Yesterday you could read that many factors have influence on the gameplay in poker. Think for example about mind games. One of the greatest examples of table talk is the Englishman William Kassouf, who often headlines many poker news websites. But here at Coolbet Open we have our own poker philosopher in the name of Karev Tralla from Estonia. Although we might think that his talking wasn’t that much effective at the beginning of the day, as he is on his second bullet trying to find a bag on the end of the day.
He found himself already a great cash during the Coolbet Series, by finishing in second place in the Coolbet Open Warm-Up event for €1.915.
The PokerListings Deepstack event of yesterday, which attracted a total of 138 entries, was won by Deep Singh from Austria. He collected €6,315 for his outstanding performance. The recap shows you everything you need to know about the event.
Coolbet is spreading its wings all over the world. We could already see players of Latin America, where Coolbet is getting more active. As it’s still very early in the event, there is not much to do yet with chip counts. But we did a round anyhow to see who is having a good start for themselves. A starting day of the Main Event is all about getting your start stack build up several times and to maintain it until Day 2. That’s where the marbles will be divided after all.
The last thing you are aiming for, is busting in the first couple of levels of the day during a Main Event, where the starting stack is still worth 100 big blinds. Unfortunately for those, they hit the rail early. We can see that at least the Icelandic poker player Vilhjalmsson already did a re-entry.
Yesterday, we learned that a group of players from Chile joined the action of the Coolbet Open. It was not a coincidence eventually, because they are representing the Latin-America part of Coolbet, coming mainly to join the Nations Cup Finals. An event series which you could qualify for online. The final nine players of the finals will have the chance to win a piece of the €20.000 prize pool, spread over the top-3 places. We will keep you posted about the outcome of this unique event as well.
Today we are kicking off the Main Event with Day 1a. Already 47 entries so far, and 45 players are left in the competition. We expect a big attraction at 1a, as many players would like to play the mixed games side events in the coming days. Currently, the poker room on the ground floor is being used as first destination for the Main Event, and the official Main poker room upstairs, starts to be filled up literally now.
When looking through the player list, we can see a lot of players from Israel and Iceland. Will it be their day to shine?
