Sports Betting Tips: Cádiz – Getafe (Feb 19th)

Sports Betting Tips: Cádiz – Getafe (Feb 19th)

Saturday night offers an important encounter in the lower regions of the table of La Liga when Getafe take the plane from Madrid and travel south to face tiny Cádiz.

The hosts from the port city have undeniably had a tough time during the difficult second season. After finishing in a fine twelfth place last season, they now find themselves in a negative qualifying position. The game looks rather weak and with only three wins in 24 attempts, it is no wonder that they are where they are. Unfortunately for Cádiz, they may just have to take another turn in the Segunda and try again.

The guests from Madrid also find themselves at the bottom of the table, though on the right side of the relegation bar. However, with improving form and a good January window behind them, Getafe should be able to climb the table. I think they will show here that they are in La Liga to stay.

A bottom game that just drips with anxiety. Both teams need to pick up as many points as they can to avoid falling out of the Spanish top flight. Despite home advantage for Cadiz, I think they will prove too small against a Getafe on the rise.

Cádiz

After 14 seasons out of the Spanish top division, Cadiz managed to win the Segunda ahead of last season and secure a ticket up to La Liga. Many thought that the small club would then have to fight tooth and nail to stay up for the first season, but they eventually managed to finish in a somewhat surprising 12th place.

This year, however, is a different story. With only three wins, they are the second worst team in the league and are still in a rightful relegation spot. The Andalusians have put in a couple of fine performances, however, with the away win against Bilbao and the draw at the Bernabeu standing out.

The problems for the home side have consistently been both the inability to score, and to defend, throughout the season. With 20 goals scored and 38 conceded, only fellow bottom teams Alavés and Levante are worse. If you have trouble scoring goals, and also leak like a sieve at the back, then it's not easy to either pick up points or win games.

Cádiz do have some experience in the team, with captain Salvi Sanchez and the old beast Alvaro Negredo in particular. Still, the hosts will have a tough time when the exuberant and playful Getafe visit.

Getafe

It was undeniably a battling effort that the dark blue put up last weekend. After a completely crazy and swinging first half, with a penalty miss, two penalty goals and a total of six goals, it was then a slightly more one-sided second half in the away game against Atlético. Just over 13 minutes in, the home team's Felipe chose to put his fingers on the throat of Getafe's Arambarri and the red card was a fact.

The remainder of the game saw Getafe more or less play the game out, and I had almost counted the game home. But, after a slightly unbelievable bicycle kick from midfielder Hermoso in the 88th minute, the game ended 4-3 to Atléti.

New signings Oscar Rodriguez and Borja Mayoral both started last, and both put in really good performances. In addition, the cooperation between the newly composed attacking pair of Mayoral and the in-form Enes Unal proved to be excellent.

Although the focus of Quique Sánchez Flores' men is primarily on being compact and well-organised, they have repeatedly shown that they are very capable of playing a fast and joyful attacking game. We saw it in the last game, then against a better Atlético, but also in the game before against an inferior Levante. It is quite remarkable how Getafe can so successfully alternate and adapt their play depending on the team they face.

Betting tips Cádiz - Getafe

Bottom of the table & anxiety, two terms customarily used together, and here no exception. Despite Getafe's upward form, they are definitely not safe from relegation yet. They need to keep winning their points, and really watch out now that their form is good. This will be here at the expense of plucky little Cádiz.

Apart from two or three good efforts, the home side have not managed to achieve much this season. They score far too few goals going forward and concede far too many at the back. It's not a good combo. It will take something more or less miraculous for the yellows from Andalusia to avoid playing in the Segunda next year.

Getafe's defence actually looked good last time out, despite conceding four. And above all, the attack looked absolutely excellent, with Enes Unal continuing to fire in goals. I don't see how Cádiz will manage to achieve anything at all here. Their underwhelming defence, against a peaceful and resurgent Getafe attack. It will be decisive.

You can play both zero ball and -0.25 on Getafe, but when the straight runners-up are this high on a noticeably better team, I can't help myself. My bet will thus be Getafe to win the match.
