Question of the Week Test Your Poker Skills

No-Limit Hold'em
Pot: $115 Blinds: $1/$2
Question In your 6-max game online it’s folded to you on the button. You raise to $8. The small blind folds, the big blind calls. BB is an OK player, probably break-even or a very small winner. Flop:
8
4
2
. He checks; you bet $14. He calls. Turn
K
. You fire a second barrel and he tanks before calling. River:
4
. He thinks before checking.
What should you do? Correct Answer: Bet $85 Just because he called two streets doesn't mean he is willing to call a third. Look at his range - it’s still very weak. It consists of mostly one-pair hands worse than nines. The very best possible hand he can have is TT; he couldn't have called the flop with a king so he doesn't have that. He has a pocket pair that got stubborn and called the turn because he knows that it is a good two-barrel card. Now he tank-checks, hoping you will give up. Don’t: fire that third barrel, then scoop the pot when he folds!
