Daily 3-Bet: Matusow Sidelined, Isai Left Off, Bollywood Boom?

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a cornucopia of color, a spectacular series of dance numbers and a satiated afternoon poker news audience leaving the theater.

Got a tip for a future edition of the 3-Bet? Let us know about it in the comments.

Today in the 3-Bet we find Mike "The Mouth" Matusow still waylaid by a mysterious illness, the 2015 Poker Hall of Fame shortlist short a big name and poker gaining traction in the Indian film industry.

1) Matusow: "So Sick of Staying Home"

It's been a frustrating couple of years for poker icon Mike "The Mouth" Matusow.

After complicated surgery in 2014 to repair a disc jutting into his spine Matusow had to relearn to walk let alone be able to sit at a poker table for extended hours.

After being bedridden for much of this year Matusow at least was able to return to health long enough to have a go at the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event where he ran up a stack early before busting before the money.

His battle back to good health doesn't appear to be over, though, as he tweeted this morning he's back on the sidelines while doctors try and figure out what's wrong.

Best wishes go out to Matusow for a full recovery.

2) Scheinberg Not on Poker Hall of Fame Shortlist

Isai Scheinberg

Despite a well reasoned and passionate pitch from poker pro Terrence Chan, PokerStars founder Isai Scheinberg did not make the final list of 10 to be considered for induction into the Poker Hall of Fame this year.

Announced today by the WSOP the list does, however, have a larger contingent of European/international players than ever before. Making the final 10:

  • Chris Björin
  • David Chiu
  • Bruno Fitoussi
  • John Juanda
  • Carlos Mortensen
  • Max Pescatori
  • Terry Rogers
  • Matt Savage
  • Dave "Devilfih" Ulliott

There is currently no European player in the Poker Hall of Fame but odds look good that seal will be broken this year.

Also not making the shortlist, despite being on it the past two years, are Matusow and Huck Seed. More on the nominees here.

3) Bollywood Star Hooked on Holdem

Has the poker bug.

We really don't know quite know how to put Sidarth Malhotra's level of fame into context but, according to The Indian Express, the young Bollywood star has a new found love of the pokers.

The model-actor has been in some popular Bollywood films and apparently is now "addicted" to the game and driving some daily poker on the set of his next film, Baar Baar Dekho.

So that's cool.

Inspired by SOPA nominee Aditya Agarwal we've explored the idea of India being on the cusp of a poker boom before and it appears to be at least somewhat in the realm of possibility.

As we've seen before, mainstream celebrities who love the game rarely hurt. And if they ever make a Bollywood-style poker film with elaborate sets and multiple dance numbers we might just throw out our Rounders Blu-Ray.
