Young Swede wins big with bet on Englishman

By: Murat Sahan - TerribleTurk

A 22-year-old Swede, who wishes to remain anonymous, won big after making a small bet that Englishman Jon Kalmar would make the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event.

The odds on Kalmar were 1:250, turning the Swede's $100 bet into $24,000 when Kalmar made it all the way to fifth place in the event.

It was no coincidence that the young Swede choose the Englishman to bet on. Jon Kalmar has made quite a name for himself online and had made the final table in a big tournament before.

Knowing this the Swede choose him and another player (an Irishman) to bet on. He could have bet on some of the more famous Swedish players, but they had considerably worse odds.

Jon Kalmar said he is proud but also surprised that someone from another country had bet on him. The two has never met but will meet in a tournament in London Sept. 22.

The Swede said, "I'll buy Jon a drink, and from what I have read about him, he likes beer which I can afford plenty of now."

Incidentally Kalmar is also the name of one of Sweden's bigger cities.
