WSOP satellites spread to casinos across the world

By: Lianne Elias

World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event satellite tournaments will be held at local casinos in Europe, Latin America, and Australia, Harrah's Entertainment announced this week. Tournaments will award winners with seats to the 2006 WSOP Main Event, which is scheduled to take place in early August 2006 with a prize pool of over $70 million.

International casinos onboard the WSOP satellite train include the Crown and Star City casinos in Australia, CIRSA Casinos' properties in Venezuela, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Panama, the Conrad Punta del Este in Uruguay, and the Holland Casino - the newest gambling venue added to the list.

Their Masters Classics of Poker event, which is slated to take place between November 9 and 11 in Amsterdam, will award first place winner of the 5,000 Euro Texas Hold'em Freezeout event with cash and a seat in the 2006 WSOP Main Event next summer.

The Masters Classics of Poker is considered one of the most prestigious events on the European poker circuit, and has been running for 13 years. The 5,000 Euro Texas Hold'em Freezeout event boasted a prize pool of approximately $1.2 million last year.
