WSOP Academy offers poker camp with the pros
If only they had poker camp when you were 12. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Academy will let you make up for lost time, though, with three WSOP champs and a former FBI specialist ready and willing to impart their secrets at upcoming poker camps.
And it sounds a lot better than early morning porridge and late-night wedgies.
The creators of the previous "Camp Hellmuth," Post Oak Productions and Harrah's Entertainment, are collaborating on a new poker camp - The WSOP Academy - to be hosted at Harrah's casinos across the United States.
Pros Phil Hellmuth, Greg Raymer, Scott Fischman, and former FBI specialist Joe Navarro - responsible for "single handedly re-writing the book on poker tells and non-verbal behavior" - will be your hosts and teachers at three multi-day camps spaced over the next six months.
There are two types - a two-day WSOP Academy and a three-day WSOP Academy "Main Event Primer" - with extensive poker seminars, interactive workshops and the chance to work on what you've learned in a No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament with the pros.
The pros will handle most of the card skills and strategies, and FBI vet Navarro will pick up the slack when it comes to the non-verbal signs, like picking up tells and controlling your own emotion and behavior.
The first two-day camp is from Jan. 27-28 at the Grand Casino Tunica in Tunica, Miss.
It will be followed by another two-day camp at Caesars Indiana in Elizabeth, Ind., Apr.7-8, and the "Main Event Primer," a three-day camp at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in June.
