10 days down at 2012 World Series of Poker.

In today's WSOP 3-Bet we bring you reports of poker pro John Monnette's second WSOP bracelet win, a sign the WSOP is on 16-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps' radar plus Jean-Robert Bellande's big announcement that he'll be playing the Big One for One Drop.

Any suggestions for a future WSOP 3-Bet, leave a note in the comments.

Olympian Michael Phelps Shows Interest in WSOP

Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps has been known to play a bit of poker, and it was actually a poker player’s party at which he was infamously photographed smoking a bong.

The WSOP's not the only thing in poker Michael Phelps might be drawn to.

That’s why it’s exciting to see him showing interest in the World Series of Poker.

Earlier today he tweeted twice to friends playing here in Las Vegas.

He tweeted at his former roommate Jeff Gross, congratulating him on getting a bye in the first round of the $10k Heads-Up, and retweeted a message from Josh Brikis.

Back in 2008 Phelps told a Baltimore Sun reporter he thought it would be cool to play in a WSOP event. To our knowledge he’s yet to make that dream come true.

Phelps’ buddy Gross already has two cashes at this WSOP and he’s in the money in the $10k Heads-Up, so it might be enough to lure the swimmer out to play his first World Series event.

John Monnette Wins Second WSOP Bracelet

Few players cash more regularly at the World Series of Poker than Californian John Monnette.

John Monnette
John Monnette now has one WSOP bracelet for each wrist.

He notched his 22nd WSOP cash this evening when he won the $5k Seven-Card Stud event. It was his second WSOP bracelet and it meant $190,826 in his pocket.

Monnette outlasted a difficult final table including five-time bracelet winner and Stud specialist Jeff Lisandro.

Finishing second was Huu Vinh, who final-tabled the $1,500 Stud event less than a week ago. Monnette dominated the later stages of the final table and ran over Vinh and third-place finisher Tim Finne.

Also making the final table were Perry Friedman and Bryn Kenney.

Here are the full final table results.

  • 1. John Monnette - $190,826
  • 2. Huu Vinh - $117,913
  • 3. Tim Finne – $73,847
  • 4. Perry Friedman - $53,470
  • 5. Jeff Lisandro - $41,789
  • 6. Mark Dickstein - $33,325
  • 7. Bryn Kenney - $27,062
  • 8. Raymond Dehkharghani - $22,332

BrokeLivingJRB Comes Up with $1 Million

In what might be the most befuddling turn of events at the WSOP so far Jean-Robert Bellande has announced he’ll be playing the $1 million Big One for One Drop.

Jean-Robert Bellande
BrokeLiving JRB somehow came up with a million dollars.

How Bellande got his hands on $1 million is anyone’s guess, and we’d love to find out how much of himself he’s actually got.

Bellande tweeted, simply, “Yes, I’m going to play the One Drop.”

While some may scoff at Bellande’s entry, he’s probably got a solid edge over the average player in this event.

When One Drop released its list of 30 people who had confirmed entry, only 10 of them were professional poker players.

We’re going to do our best to track down Bellande to get to the bottom of this mystery.
